unfortunately, I'm having to do some detective work at the church...I found a 2 SD cards with a thumb drive that takes the SD cards, I guess so the computer can read them....however, when I put one in the thumb drive and then insert it into the computer, it won't work...any ideas?

neither of the cards work in the drive?
try a different computer or a different thumb drive

A thumb drive that takes SD cards? I thought a thumb drive was just a flash drive. I assume you must mean something like a USB memory card reader. If that is the case, perhaps you need to update the firmware.

nope...in fact, I can't get the E drive to open at all and when I go to My Computer to open it, everything freezes for a minute it seems.... I'll try another computer, but they are all the same computer...and I don't have a different thumb drive...well, let me ask the secretary if she does...

the reader is probably bad.
you could test it with a card you know is good, like one from your camera. that would let you know if its the cards or the reader itself

It's not. It sucks. And I hate that I'm in this situation. But I'm in charge of the safety of this church and the people in it.

did that and it won't read it... I'm guessing it is bad...it seemed kind of rugged.... Wonder how much one of those costs?

they're pretty cheap. you could even go to the computer store and just stick the cards into a display model and see whats on them. many newer computers have readers built into them

Why dont you just destroy the cards if its a safety issue??

Jilly

because the safety is regarding the person whom I believe these cards belong to and if what is on them is what I think might be on them, said person needs to be fired

what OS does the computer you are trying connect this to use?

If it's XP or Vista, after a minute or so, it should recognize the drive.

Yep. I'd be surprised if the one you're messing with costs more than $20 or so.

Here is another idea if you don't want to buy a new card reader. If you have a device such as a camera or MP3 player that takes a SD, put the SD card in it and hook it up to the PC via the device's USB cable. It should show up as a drive (with the name of the device on it).

at that point, she really wouldn't even need a computer unless it's documents not pictures.

I don't know what's on it, but I'm guessing it's both....I think it was used in a Palm device. And yes, I did wait for the drive to pick it up and it never did. I'm just going to go get a drive thing...I'm betting I can use it for various things anyways!

I appreciate all of your help!

take it to a computer store(BestBuy etc) and ask one of the guys to 'check to see it the drives work'

flirt and smile .... they should do it

watch them to see what kind of reader they use so you know what to use or what to get

I would assume the things that are on them she doesn't want anyone else to see if they are firable material.

WTH dude? That is just mean & wrong. Nobody that goes to church claims to be pure. We go to church to try and do better. But we all are sinners. Sounds like you have some issues.

Sounds like you have some issues.if she's in charge of security at the church. Members are using SD cards and leaving them behind???? I'd wonder if anti-virus/spyware was running to check the SD.
Could be a trojan waiting for a double click to install.
Knowing the job if your in charge should be important enough to understand this....

That's not what I was talking about. The little jab at the church goers being not so pure was unnecessary.
