I hadn't been to the movies since September and I went this weekend to discover that evening tickets for adults to a regular movie were $10 apiece. WTF? Hell my matinee tickets for Dark Knight over the summer were cheaper than that. With tickets so expensive, it makes a lot more sense to wait and rent it or even buy the DVD and break even instead of paying money to sit in a theater that may or may not have a shrieking child or obnoxious group of 20+ high schoolers giggling as they throw shit the entire movie.

exactly, I don't go to the movies no more. Taking my kids out to a theater is a $35 experience.

The last movie I saw in the theater was The Dark Knight over the summer. I had not been to the theater for a couple years prior to that. It's just not worth it to me.

You're fortunate that you don't have to pay $14.50 per ticket plus an additional $2 for parking as we do in Los Angeles.

ouch..

Its about $8.50 at night here in Texas.

I only go to about 4 or 5 movies a year anymore anyways. Mainly the kids movies since my kids are 6 and 4.

IMAX is a temptation though. Dark Knight in IMAX was worth the extra coin.

But mostly, i can wait the 4 months for them to come out on DVD.

Dane, you ever see the day when new release big movies are released day and date at the theater on DVD and digital download?

If I go, I just bring my digital camcorder in (HD) atleast I can watch it again. Or upload it

Yeah, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon.

AMC, Pacific Theaters, et al have too much invested and at stake for the Studios to essentially turn their backs on them.

Bastards also changed matinee times. Now a matinee is considered before 4:00pm...

I don't care how great technology gets, IMO nothing beats seeing a great movie for the first time in the theater. I am getting sick and fucking tired of seeing people text right in the middle of the damn movie. Do people not realize how goddamn distracting the light from the cell phone is and how it takes away from the moviegoing experience. I try to go to the movies on a Sunday or if I have a day off from work so theres less chance of annoying kids who can't shut their fucking phones off for two hours.

Yeah, I usually only go to one or two movies per year at full price anymore. Now that I have BD it is not as big of a deal to go to the theater.

It can if your date is 12 or under. You just have to pickup the right girls!

so I take my date out the other night, picked her up from her place, and we're out to dinner. things go well and progress nicely, to the point that we're at her place after dinner and a movie. so--I'm fucking her in the ass, and she turns around and says 'it's rather presumptuous that you think that you can fuck me in the ass on the first date, isn't it?' to which I say, 'isn't presumptuous a rather large word for a seven year old?'

Everything goes up. I was 10 in 1955. My dad would give me a quarter to go to the movies. That paid for admission, a small coke and a candy bar.

This is what really got me angry. Dinner and a movie is quickly becoming a very expensive proposition, especially when you take a look at how the prices for going to a movie compare to just buying the movie and seeing it as many times as you want.

I'd much rather see a movie in the theater than at my house, but the experience isn't worth $20+, at least not to me.

Sure, it is a slight distraction. But at least it is better than an actual phone call. I have been known to text in the theater. But I don't text every 2 minutes like a teenager. I might do it once or twice during a movie.

My question is why?? Why cant you just turn your phone off?

People survived for decades without cell phones just fine, why cant we live without them for two hours anymore?

At the STL Symphony a few years back the attendant checked your phone it had to be OFF. Any DR had to give number to the Fox for their service....
Live taping/airing of music.

There is technology that can block cell phones. I don't understand why some places don't use that technology. A movie theater is not one that should, though, IMO.

I just put mine on vibrate and don't look at it unless my wife's phone goes off within a couple of minutes of mine (meaning that it might be important).

It's rude, otherwise.

I just turned 32 thank you very much. It does make me feel like a crotchety old man to bitch about that but I can't help it. The light from peoples cell phones is a distraction in the theater that drives me fucking nuts.

Ive witnessed 3 instances of people (kids usually) actually taking a call and talking on their phone during a movie before.

Completely rude.

People talking on phones during a movie is exactly why you bring a taser to the movies these days. Simple quit solution to the problem and you know they won't try talking during the movie again.

No the fucking asshats at AMC that I know of consider Thanksgiving to sometime in January as a holiday.. I literally asked the bitch behind the window what Holiday it was?? She said it was Christmas season on January 3rd, so we charge more because kids were out of school most days.. I was fucking pissed...

I usually do not get pissed at something like this, mainly because I hate AMC theatres, would rather be at a Dickinson where the seats are nicer and they actually will kick out obnoxiously loud kids and parents who are not controlling their babies.. Only reason I know is because I got them to escort a woman and her crying baby for Dark knight.. This woman brought her baby to a 1115pm showing and did not have the sense to take the kid outside when it was crying.. The crowd applauded when she got sent out, boyfriend/husband stayed though..

Have me there, I have no problem telling someone to shut up in a movie.. If they don't I have no problem being a dick and get someone to have them escorted out..

Reminds me of the time when we were at a Wizard's game with my friends from Europe. A girls team was behind us, I would guess 8-13 year olds?? Well the little shits were going nuts, running back and forth and screaming.. Next thing I know is I got hit upside the back of the head with some ice cream.. So, I go off on the little shits, I think I even told all the little cunts to stfu and stfd for the rest of the game..

They were angels after that... Sad part was I never got yelled at, because whoever brought them was nowhere to be seen.. My friends still talk about they day.. They were in awe or disbelief..
