22. (119) Denver (from Washington) - Brandon Marshall, WR Central Florida
23. (120) Chicago - Jamar Williams, LB Arizona State
24. (121) Carolina - Nate Salley, S Ohio State
25. (122) Tampa Bay - Alan Zemaitis, CB Penn State

If it wasn't for Carl Peterson, the Chiefs would have had Dan Marino.

I'd trade Herm for Gostcowski anyday.

The Chiefs also could have and Troy Polamolu. But we got good ol' Lawrence Johnson instead.

That trade really annoyed me.

PBJ 22. (154) Kansas City - Marcus Maxey, CB Miami (FL) PBJ

Seriously, I would gladly have drafted a washout, wasting a 4th round pick instead of getting Herm then, knowing what I know now.

36. (244) Tampa Bay (Compensatory) - Tim Massaquoi, TE Michigan

I wonder if he is related to the Georgia WR... too lazy to look, sorry.

Are you trying to tell me that it isn't a good idea to trade a draft pick for a coach that had just ran a team into the ground with a 4-12 record and was about to get fired?

Gee I never saw this coming. ROFL

One of these days....That is kinda my final remaining link to the rotten Carl Peterson era of obvious poor 1st day draft picks. Once Herm is flushed out then I think I will be able to let go of all my ill-will I have harbored towards the Peterson led Chiefs.

Man that Downing pick was awful. I remember checking around on him from some folks I knew in the business and anybody who did their homework at all would have known he was an unmotivated reach. Probably the only franchies that didn't know better were probably the Bengals and the Chiefs. :D

I don't disagree with the premise of this thread - that trading a 4th for Herm was a bad idea. However, any thread that tries to justify a position by saying "we could have drafted XXX" is just stupid. No matter what you do, there will almost always be a player taken after you pick that will end up being a better player than the one you picked. That's just the way the draft works.

Jared Allen?

Thus, the word "almost." I guess a better way of looking at it is that the average team will probably get lucky and get the truly "best player available" with one or two of their choices in their draft, but rarely more than that, and often they "miss" in that sense on all of them.
