Next month, my GF and I are planning on upgrading my TV. I currently have a 32" Vizio, LCD.

I have my eye on these.

I'd like to keep the cost under 1500. Plus, a little extra for a service plan.

I'm not sure if I want to stay with LCD, or go with Plasma.

I want to stay in the 46"-52" range.

I was looking in Best Buy the other day, and I noticed the Plasmas seem a bit more vivid.

Plasma, IMO.

Do yourself a favor when you are looking for TVs in a showroom. Have the associate take them off of torch mode, as it will give you a much better idea of what the set will look like under conditions that won't ruin it in 3 years.

Set the brightness and contrast down to sub-50 levels and compare from there.

Most people conflate a really bright picture with a good picture, and that's a mistake. If you are really looking for detail in the PQ and subtle differences over color gradients, compare how they render blues, reds, and greens.

Scroll down to the bottom. Buydig. Several seller ratings (related to Buy dot com, perhaps?), all positive.

It's the Samsung 52a650

I have the Panasonic in my living room right now (a very similar model anyway). I couldn't be happier with it. I'm a plasma over LCD guy though. Panasonic is second only to Pioneer in plasma, IMO.

Theres a million TV threads around here and I dont claim to be an expert or smarter than anybody else but just from my own experience the TV you select is dependent on the room you're putting it in.

If it's going to be in a room with a lot of light, windows and such LCD does a much better job handling glare. If its in a darker room with little to no outside light I think plasma would be the choice.

I just bought two Panasonic plasma 1080s, a 42" and a 46".
They look great, Panasonic makes great Plasma TVs.
Best Buy has the 46" on sale right now (for a short time) for $999.
Great price, Sears and Wal Mart both want around $1300 for this TV.

They look great, easy to set up, lots of inputs on front and back:
