I just saw this on another website, and thought it was a good idea.

If you cant do just 5, then do how ever many you want.

Try to list them from favorite to least favorite, but if you cant, don't.

This should be fun.

Try to keep spoilers out of it.

Okay that was difficult, I managed to get 6 people into my top 5 though, not bad.

I really should get the DVDs for this show. It was one of the first shows we watched when mom relented and allowed us to watch regular TV on the 'monitor' bought for the Commodore 64. Loved it back then, haven't seen it since.

I remember the 'Devil in a Blue Dress' episode with Whoopi to this day as an exhilarating and hilarious episode.

Its still extremely good and holds up well. I have the DVD box set of seasons 1&2. It was very well written.

Seasons 1-3 are great. After that it went down hill quickly.

If you remember him 30 years after the series ended, there must be a good story. Who is Lance White, and why was he memorable?

I used to watch The Rockford Files reruns with my Dad in the early 80's so it's really more like 25 years. And I recently re-watched all the episodes via Netflix. FWIW, Rockford would have probably made my top 10 list.

It probably won't be too surprising that Lance White was a lot like Magnum P.I. He was the kind of guy who could do no wrong, the girls love him, and even when he's not trying to take the credit for good things that happen, he gets it anyway. He teamed up with Jim Rockford on a case to find an industrial mogul's kidnapped daughter because he was a friend of the client's secretary but he assured Rockford that he was just there to help and he was not trying to horn in on Rockford's business. Throughout the investigation, Rockford is doing grunt work and taking a lot of lumps while White takes improbable approaches that inevitably pay off. In the end, the case is solved thanks to the hard work of Rockford and the good fortune of White. Rockford is thanked and presumably paid for his services, but Lance White ends up marrying the daughter and becoming the designated successor to his new father-in-law's business empire.

Gaius Baltar: New BSG (character arc is one of the more interesting ones in history, he's all shades of gray)
The Doctor: Dr. Who
Gene Hunt: Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes (which I haven't seen yet)
Jimmy McNulty: The Wire
Sam Tyler: Life on Mars

All British actors, I realize in retrospect. Weird.

I tried to come up with a great female character and couldn't. Which is kind of a shame I think. Dana Scully would probably be tops on a female list.

Honorable mention to Col. Henry Blake: M*A*S*H (his death hurt, palpably)

Actually, it's hard to limit the list to 5. There's probably many more I haven't even thought of. Al Swearingen for one, he has to be on the list, but I can't drop anybody already there.

There are two female characters that I really enjoy. The first (can't remember her character's name) was the skinny ex-model on Just Shoot Me. She was hilarious. The other would be Karen on Will & Grace.

I was thinking about getting into Doctor Who, but I couldn't tell where I should start???I haven't seen most of it. Caught a lot of the 70s episodes, with Tom Baker as the Doctor, on PBS as a kid, and I think he's still my favorite iteration of the character, although I really like David Tennant from the last 3 series. But other than that, I'm not sure I've seen many/any of the episodes running from '63 to '74, and from '82 to '89.

There's actually a good bit of british science fiction I'd like to catch up on. Blake's 7, in particular, comes to mind.

1. When it comes to The Wire, it's Omar, start and finish. Bubbles is a good storyline, and ultimately the heart of the show, but Omar's full of win from jump street. McNulty is written well and Purcell does a good job, but he suffers [with me] with Poppy Mongomery disease where I'm constantly analyzing his dialog for his accent.
2. Re: Dr. Who, Do you watch Torchwood? I've been glued from the first glimpse of that gap-toothed vixen. Interesting enough to weather the gay shit.
3. Re: Life on Mars. I'm kind of in limbo. I'd heard goood things about the BBC production, then I started watching the US production and like it enough that I don't want to spoil it. Is it so much better than the current show to merit must see immediately, or will I survive waiting until at least the first season [and ostensibly BBC plotlines] are over?

That was the first name I thought of, and might've made my list if there hadn't been those years post Richie, teaching vo-tech, hanging out with Ted McGinley. McNulty is written well and Purcell does a good job, but he suffers [with me] with Poppy Mongomery disease where I'm constantly analyzing his dialog for his accent.I learned about his nationality after the fact, so that was never a problem. And I wouldn't argue a second about Omar. Amazing character, another I'd add to the list.2. Re: Dr. Who, Do you watch Torchwood? I've been glued from the first glimpse of that gap-toothed vixen. Interesting enough to weather the gay shit.I love Torchwood, and she's ****ing hot. And it is hard to stomach the gay stuff sometimes. I'm okay with other people choosing that lifestyle, but seeing guys kiss just makes me cringe, and not in the good horror movie way.3. Re: Life on Mars. I'm kind of in limbo. I'd heard goood things about the BBC production, then I started watching the US production and like it enough that I don't want to spoil it. Is it so much better than the current show to merit must see immediately, or will I survive waiting until at least the first season [and ostensibly BBC plotlines] are over?I would wait. I like the US production, but I think the BBC production is better. Especially Hunt. He's an epic badass in the british series, and Philip Glenister's performance is the reason I have a hard time with Harvey Keitel when most of the folks who haven't seen the BBC series love it. And while Gretchen Mol is hot as hell as Annie Norris, it's really hard not to fall for Liz White as Annie Cartwright in the same way you mention with Eve Myles on Torchwood.

Speaking of Torchwood, and Dr. Who for that matter, it sucks that we only get a few hours of them both in 2009.

Buck

Having only seen the first 10 episodes of The Wire, its surprising to hear that Omar is one of the main characters of the show. He hasn't gotten that billing yet, 10 episodes in.

Dr. Who's my dad's thing. He's been watching it forever, and I'm one of those types who can't watch a show without knowing the entire story, and I'm not about to wade through eleventy billion prior episodes to catch up. I haven't even steeled myself to tackle BSG yet, aside from watching the initial [reboot] movie.

Having only seen the first 10 episodes of The Wire, its surprising to hear that Omar is one of the main characters of the show. He hasn't gotten that billing yet, 10 episodes in.

Not a lot of screen time, relatively. Just revelatory and awesome plot and performance when he IS on screen. Most of it founded/grounded in the events at the end of season one.

"Money don't have any owners, only takers"
"If you come at a king, you best not miss."

State's Atty. Ilene Nathan: Mr. Little, how does a man rob drug dealers for eight or nine years and live to tell about it?
Omar: Day at a time I suppose?

Dr. Who's my dad's thing. He's been watching it forever, and I'm one of those types who can't watch a show without knowing the entire story, and I'm not about to wade through eleventy billion prior episodes to catch up.I'm the same way, I don't always get their canonical references, but I started watching it as a kid and always got into it, so it's hard not to watch it now.re: Torchwood, I catch it on HDNet, for . . . HD, reasons. What's the scoop? It appears, even though I watched the HD reruns, I'm UTD where Captain Hart came back.If it's the episode dealing with Jack's brother Gray, then you're current. That was the 2nd season finale. All that's airing this year is a 5-episode miniseries during the spring (not sure when it airs here on BBC America). Although Jack, Gwen and Ianto were all involved with the season 4 finale of Dr. Who.

When he's on screen, you just don't look away.

Okay, after completing such series as The Wire, BSG, and catching up completely on the office, plus seeing another season of LOST my list is due for renewal.

1. Omar Little - The Wire
2. The Bunk - The Wire / Jimmy McNulty - The Wire
3. John Locke - LOST

Tough question, i'll wanna alter it tomorrow, heres for tonight...

1) Archie Bunker - brilliant material for its time & O' Connor WAS Archie, awesome actor.
2) Fred G Sanford.- as a kid, i really felt i knew Freddy, great cast of character actors.
3) Beavis & Butthead - cant have 1 without the other. They'd put Winger tshirts on the South Park kids.
4) JR Ewing - As with 1&2, some guys just completely own the characters they play.
5) Herb Tarlek - Great, great show, everyone knows who a 'Herb Tarlek' is these days...thats staying power.
