OK, so my dumbassness is going to come out in this thread. My sheets are done. I need some new ones. However, I know nothing about sheets. My last sheets purchase was dictated by, "oooohhh Look! those ones are cheap!". I need some CP wisdom with sheets.

Coincidently, I did try sheets treated with antifreeze. They were OK, but didn't last too long.

The higher the number the better...or more soft to the skin...the lower the number the more coarse the fabric and the less likely you will sleep in the buff....I figure if you like sleeping in sandpaper/cardboard why not just buy sandpaper/cardboard?

Between 100 to 400 is good. No need to go higher than 400 really.

The cheap sheets you get from Wal Mart are around a 200 thread count. The real nice ones probably start around 500-600 and they go up from there. If you go in the store just open the packages and feel the difference. The more expensive ones will be more slick and a lot stiffer, and they will last a lot longer.

Try Costco or Sams for high thread count sheets if you have a membership. I bought some 500 thread count recently at Sams for about $35 for the set.

For the summer, see if you can find some jerseys tee shirt sheets. I love those things. If not, as has already been mentioned, it's usually worth spending a little more to get the nicer ones. You definitely get what you pay for with sheets.

Ok man there is much more than simply thread count to consider with sheets. First off you sleep on these every night, kind important IMO so don’t cheap out here. While thread count is important, ply is as much if not more (the number of threads wrapped together before weaving). "A sheet labeled "1,000 thread count" technically could be 250 threads per inch woven with a four-ply thread." Opt for a high thread count and single ply to get the best quality sheets.
Next you need to FEEL the sheets, I’m a big fan of Egyptian Cotton but to each his own whatever you do run with a natural fiber they seem to last longer and breathe better than the synthetic material.
Again buy the best sheets you can afford.

Get at least 200 thread count sheets. I used to scoff at the idea of paying that much for sheets, but my wife got some 400 count and they are REALLY comfortable.

Kohls had a really good sale on all bed coverings. Pretty good selection too. I would not ever get flannel ones though. They'll roast you.

The best sheets are definately the high thread count egyptian cotton. but they are usually quite expensive.
A reasonable step down from that is jersey cotton. you can find it at bed bath and beyond.

If you're looking for some good values on sheets, a good place to check is Overstock.com. A couple of years ago, we picked some 800 thread count sheets for around $50 each, and they were worth every penny.

If you're used to 200-300 thread count sheets, you'll definitely tell the difference.

I've always liked the idea of flannel sheets, but my one requirement for sheets is that they be printed with winter themes like polar bears or snowflakes.
