Dude measured 6-7 and THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-TWO POUNDS at the Senior Bowl today.

Is it just me, or is that almost TOO big?

I didn't get to see him this year, what are your thoughts on this guy?

Aaron Gibson was 6-6 386. He was drafted in the first round and then he was over 400 within a couple of years of being in the NFL and was a bust.

I don't know if Johnson will be like Gibson.

At 386, I have to wonder how agile he is.

Guards are expected to be able to pull in most offenses. I'm worried he may be too slow, and NFL defenses can, and will take advantage.

That size would certainly make me think twice before I drafted him.

Clearly we need to draft him and Loadholt for the right side. Championship.

I'd say that's going to work for the Steelers, the Ravens, or any offense that always runs between the tackles.

Would have worked for us very well when we had LJ slamming into walls in 2007.

I had a friend that was 6'7" 370 or so .. and he was damn agile... played basketball as a matter of fact...

I wouldn't judge based on weight alone...but again... I know nothing about Johnson so I'll reserve judgement

It depends how he looks without his pads, if he looks like he does in that picture that's fine he doesn't have any kind of giant flab hanging around.

Walterfootball has him as Carries weight extremly well. But I would be shocked to think anyone could carry that much weight well.

QB and LB/DE with our first two picks.

I would think his size would be a disaster to come for chronic knee issues.

I would think his size would be a disaster to come for chronic knee issues.

It all depends on his genetics. The guy's frame doesn't even looked maxed out by the weight. He is simply a true human giant. His knees look like they are 6-8 inches thick (from side to side). If that is the case, then I would assume that this man-giant's joints are fine. He is probably as susceptible as every other OL, though.

I wonder how that much weight would affect his ability to function late in games. He is naturally going to use more energy than he would at 345-350.

Are you fuggin kiddin me ? Phil Loadholt measure in at 6-8 343 lbs and Herman Johnson 6-7 382 lbs. That would be alot of friggin beaf on the right side. I say pass on Johnson but definately give Loadholt a chance. Chiefs need a player like Branden Albert at Guard not a 382 pound guard. Thats just insane.

I googled his name to see if that was really him in the picture since it wasn't labeled, and there were several references to him as a 330-lb. guy. That raises the question of whether the pictures were taken of him at 330 pounds or 387 pounds.

I'd take him at RT in a heartbeat but he's a guard? He seems way too tall to play G in the NFL.

Douche Baggins
01-20-2009, 05:36 PM
OK, since he isn't all that flabby, the guy must have ridiculous strength, no? Muscle is more dense than fat.

My guess: a lot of it is in his legs. Compare his legs to Damion McIntosh. No comparison.

I'd be interested to see if he can actually get leverage at that height. IIRC, some of the better guards have been 6'1-6'3... 6'7 is too tall unless you're going up against john henderson every freaking week.

It really is too big. I don't know how anyone's joints could hold up that much weight. Honestly, when I saw that on NFLDC, my first thought was that he should move to Nose Tackle. If he has any strength or any speed, a guy that size would command triple teams.

I'm not convinced that weight (out of shape) would be a problem with this guy.

Look at him! He's not Fatlock

A little tall for a Guard? Sure. But there's a lot of guards now a days that are just a few inches shorter than him.

Couldn't hurt him in pass pro. Longer arms.

I've been on the kick for a while now that the Chiefs are falling behind the times as far as the size of players on the O & D lines now a days.

This guy in the 3rd to mid rounds could help us catch up in that area real quick.

... You know Gailey would like him. :D

No problem. We'll just extend the pistol formation all the way to a punt formation. That way, Thigpen can lob the ball over his head easier.

Johnson has good footwork and can move.

Plus, Harris plays the left side, Johnson's on the right. Two totally different positions.

LSU’s Johnson shedding pounds ahead of Combine (http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/16/lsus-johnson-shedding-pounds-ahead-of-combine/)

Days before the combine in Indianapolis, LSU offensive lineman Herman Johnson already is one of the biggest losers.

The 6-foot-8 Johnson has lost over 30 pounds in his preperation for this week’s tests for NFL teams. He will participate in all the drills at the combine.

At LSU, Johnson played guard. But in the NFL, because of his arm length — Johnson’s arms were the longest measured at the Senior Bowl — he could be moved to offensive tackle.

Wherever he plays, Johnson will have the chance to show off his makeover this week.

I thought he was moving pretty damn well at the Senior Bowl, considering he was over 380.

If he's down to the 345-350 range?
