Limbaugh: ‘I Hope Obama Fails’ (http://thinkprogress.org/2009/01/20/limbaugh-obama-fail/)»

http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/limbaugh-barack2.jpg

“Are conservative talk-show hosts eager to go on the attack (http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20090120/OBAMAINAUGURATION10/301200007/1011/SCENE), after years of defending Bush?” asks the Louisville Courier-Journal’s Larry Muhammad. The answer is clearly yes.
Barack Obama has not yet taken office, and Rush Limbaugh is already rooting for his failure (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_011609/content/01125113.member.html). On his radio show last Friday, Limbaugh said, “I disagree fervently (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_011609/content/01125113.member.html) with the people on our [Republican] side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds.’”
Limbaugh told his listeners that he was asked by “a major American print publication” to offer a 400-word statement explaining his “hope for the Obama presidency.” He responded: So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.” (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here’s the point. Everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.
It hasn’t taken long for Limbaugh to reveal his core hypocrisy. In July 2006, with conservatives in power, Limbaugh offered one of his common screeds against the left. “I’m getting so sick and tired of people rooting for the defeat (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/estack_12_13_06/Hezbos/It_s_Been_World_War_III_Since_9_11__What_s_Happening_Now_Is_Gift_to_the_World_-07_17_06.member.html) of the good guys,” he complained.
During the Clinton presidency in the 90s, Limbaugh would begin his show with a gimmick, purporting to count the days America had been “held hostage (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081111061955AAggZ0e%3Cbr%20/%3E).” In May 2007, Limbaugh recalled (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_062107/content/Foxes.member.html):Back when Clinton was inaugurated in 1993 and we began our America Held Hostage countdown, the number of days left until Clinton was gone so we’d all be released from bondage, the joke, do you remember how mad the liberals got at that? Do you remember how mad the Drive-Bys got at that? Then they started running stories how I, Rush Limbaugh, was destroying the respect for the office of the presidency that the American people had.
A disastrous Bush presidency has come and gone, but some things haven’t changed a bit.

Old news ..he said he hopes his policys fail.

should we define progress as being so thin skinned and with so much going on, pissing and moaning about Radio and TV hosts within the first weeks of taking office?.

Now I know why he was on the cover of Entertainment this week.

At least he is honest about it. Why wouldn't he hope for failure? He made a lot of money with his approach. Not bad for a rich kid who flunked out, dogdged the draft with a boil on his fat ass, and survived a hillbilly heroin addiction.

I don't actually think Rush Limbaugh means everything he says to a tee, but he's trying to make points, and trying to be comical about it. He actually is pretty funny, and yeah, he is politically incorrect.

Evey Barber Shop, and Cafe I walk into at 10am, filled with old folks drinking coffee Rush is droning on. All the old conservatives, nod along, they are whats left as supporters of the GOP. Sad, Rush says things not out of fact but to get his rating up, his nonsensical musings, are no better than Shock Jocks like Howard Stern.
If I had a dollar for everytime I pass a Buick Roadmaster, Century, or Lincoln Town Car that has a Rush Bumber sticker, and the driver was 70, I could pay for the bailout myself. Like everything associated with the GOP, they are passing away. Flush Rush.

It depends on what you think of a future of dramatically increased socialized dependency, I guess.

so that means Rush hates America and wants American soldiers to die!!!

I mean that's the rules according to the GOP and Rush himself over the last 8 years ..... if you want the President or his policies to fail then you hate American and want all the American soldiers to die.

That's the thing - we didn't want Bush to fail. We merely criticized him for his spectacular failures. And for that, we're called un-American, even though holding leadership accountable is one of the tenets this country was founded on.

Rush is ROOTING for failure from the onset. You can disagree with Obama's approach or policies, and you may think that he won't succeed, and you should certainly criticize him if he doesn't, but HOPING he won't is the most ridiculously un-American thing you can do.

He and his followers are the dumbfuckiest dumbfucks in the history of dumbfuckery.

If Obama succeeds, we will be a radical left wing socialist country with socialist government run banks, and socialist governement run health care, and socialist government run farms, and sgr logistical networks, sgr information technology, sgr green technology, etc. etc. etc.

You cannot make more than this, and you must make at least this.

Could there be a greater sense of reactionism among some of the more right-leaning members here? There is no intellect involved in any debate with them. God help any conservative moment that is led by reactionist morons. You'll never see a quicker slide into change.

Bootlegged and SHTSPRAYER mostly would do their political beliefs a great benefit by never posting anything political.

What appears to be lost here is that it appears that Rush doesn't actually believe his ideology, if he did, he'd hope he succeeds, but stand firm in the knowledge that his plans will eventually fail. If he HOPES Obama fails, he cedes the point that socialism COULD work.

Good point, although I would guess that what Rush really hopes, whether he's thought about it in these terms or not, is that Obama's policies are recognized as failures because it's all too possible for good policies to be misperceived as bad and for bad policies to be misperceived as good over the short run. And even after almost 80 years, economists can't seem to agree on which policies were good and bad wrt the Great Depression.

Way to respect and listen to your elders kiddo. Those 70 year olds comprised the "greatest generation". Maybe they know something that you don't as a result of lifes experiences.
