Former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards is joining ESPN as a NFL studio analyst, the network announced today.

Edwards will appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPNEWS and other programs throughout the year in addition to contributing analysis on ESPN Radio and other platforms. He is scheduled to start in mid February.

“Herm is well-liked and highly respected throughout the league, and his insights and opinions as a former coach will make a tremendous addition to our year-round NFL coverage,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production.

Maybe they can buy him one of those Auduban clocks with the sounds of different birds chirping over at ESPN.

Director: "OK, Hermie, when you hear the Baltimore Oriole sing, it is time to talk with everyone about football. Not that coaching thing you did in Kansas City. No, real football."

Herm: "Uhhhhhh, OK"

Director: "Now, when you hear the House Wren sing, you need to stop talking about football and making all those goofy faces, OK?"

Herm: "I'm feeling insecure right now, can I call Dick Curl. He know alot about this stuff."

Director: "I want to die...."

It's not because of his coaching. He has a great rapport with his players and with other coaches/staff etc. of the other franchises around the leauge.

Herm was NOT a good coach, but you should all thank his ineptitude for bringing about this new era of Chiefs football.

To say he did nothing is an idiotic TF take, yes.
He and Carl managed to somehow wrangle not 1, not 2, but 3 rookie Corners who have every possibility to be exceptional players. They're already the greatest rookie Corners to walk on an NFL field, and if they work hard and stay focused, there's no reason all three of them can't leave the NFL as the three best to ever play the position.

I understand the hate, really I do. But put the 'fucktard' to bed, or take it to the Coalition.

Hello!?!

When you get on the bus some people sit in the back. Some people sit in the front. Doesn't matter as long as you're on the bus. Unfortunately, I don't know when the bus departs.

Their ratings will plummet.

Can't be any worse than Mortimer lying about Shanahan nearing a deal with KC.

Some of you guys hold a grudge. Damn..

Herm's perfect for TV. All style, no substance.

The man's charismatic.

That's why he'd be a great college coach. UCLA would be foolish not to go after him once they shitcan Neuheisel.

Herm:...ya gotta run the ball..a lot..and play good defense...not sure how you go about doing these things...but thats how you win the game....and you go play...and you win...and it gets flustrating....what? I'm fired from ESPN now? What did I do? I'm so flustered

I agree, I think he would do really well in college. Despite his flaws as a coach, players still like him. He could be a great recruiter and his other flaws as a coach wouldn't be nearly as significant in college.

I agree with this. I think he'd thrive as a college HC, particularly on the West coast.

Exactly. I almost mentioned that he should angle for any one of the 2 Pac-10 jobs that seem to open up every year, but I know better than to discuss conferences on this board.

When Neuheisel is inevitably exposed as a hack again, I think Herm would be great for the UCLA job.

EDIT: Or exactly what Hamas already said (damn you for posting at 3 in the freakin' morning...)

See Pete Carroll.

UCLA would be a fantastic destination for Herm. I almost posted the same, but didn't feel like engaging in the verbal sparring that would likely result.

Hopefully Herm won't be in charge of getting into and out of breaks on time. His clock management is not the best.

I guess Herm will finally have to watch a superbowl.
