I missed the half time show since I had to leave for work. But If he didn't play Born in the USA I am kinda surprised. I saw him in Milwaukee this summer and he didn't play it then either.

Anyway his show this summer was a good one. He pretty much kept his mouth shut about politics which was a good thing. He does know how to entertain and he puts a lot into his shows. The show I saw he went for well over 3 hours non-stop.

If you don't like Springsteen, it merely means that you haven't been beaten down by life enough. You haven't seen your dreams crushed and realized that all of the promise of your youth has resulted in three unfinished novels and a small market research company in middle America and a shining moment of fame being nothing more than a 15-minute interview on South Carolina Public Radio that aired on a weekday morning.

I'm speaking hypothetically, of course.

Springsteen has never been labeled as a "good singer" and never will be. Some of us, including myself, don't like his politics. But he is still the voice of the common man and I liked his halftime show. He's the type of guy that doesn't have to have a super-model wife, be on radio with a catchy tune, or pimp his songs out to every/any corporation wanting to use his songs.

Anyway, the reason "Born In The USA" isnt played in his live shows as much as before is because it's not a patriotic song. It's a song about hardships from the Viet Nam era.

I would love to see Rascal Flatts do a half time show

This is what makes me LAUGH sooooo hard about country music. Guys who listen to it are messed up.

First off, if you listen to a country station all day w/o flipping the station, then you listen to about 90% chick music. "THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS!".

Second. Even the guys stuff is girly as fuck! "Little bit of chicken fry, cold beer on a friday night, pair of jeans that fit just right..." YES! That's what I want to listen to! A GUY(?) singing about "fit just right jeans", is this grounds for pulling a man card?!

Third. Guys, acting like Rascal Flatts, is anything more than the NSYNC or Backstreet Boys of country music. Okay, talk shit about about NSYNC and Backstreet Boys(not my kind of music either), but Rascal Flatts is cool, b/c they don't dance and they dress normal. Okay.

Country music guys are the biggest softies in the world.

Personally,I'm thankful he didn't play it,it's like me with ZZ Top,my fav band but I could give a shit if I ever hear Legs,Sharp Dressed Man etc. ever again.

Bruce would've been better off playing the likes Of Jungleland,Cadillac Ranch,Thunder Road and Badlands but most people would've said WTF is this,Well this would've been what makes Bruce,Bruce, and until anyone has experienced that Bruce live for 3 hours+ they really don't have an idea just how good the man and his band is.

Oh and before I get lit up,I appreciate that all music is subjective and respect that.however,SB halftime shows are a focking circle jerk and I've yet to see one that truly shows why any of the classic artists are classics.I've got a feeling that ZZ Top will be next years half time show. :)

As long as the NFL keeps away from the bands that have their pants hanging down the the knees.

Then its an improvement.

Why not AC/DC if they are going to have aging rockers? Thier music is a stable at most NFL stadiums anyway.

It don't get any more white-bread than the "Boss". I remember a few years ago when I worked at CNN he played a show at Phillips arena (right next door, connected by the CNN food court). I've never seen that many white people in one place in Atlanta before (except maybe a Nascar race). ROFL

To each his own, I suppose. Just remember though. You're talking about an 80 year old gay man who owns a chihuahua named "Lick Me".

FAX

He has a dog named "lick me"?

Tom Petty rocked it last year - they sounded awesome.

Springsteen = out of breath, trying too hard to be hip, dope.

Bruce Springsteen sucks. He's not the Boss of jack squat.

They need to get over that and get start getting current acts again at half time.

I thought it sucked really bad. The sound was horrible etc. etc.

Here's a very good article (http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/listoftheday/119897/the-10-unforgivable-sins-of-bruce-springsteens-performance-at-the-super-bowl/) called The 10 Unforgivable Sins By Bruce at the Super Bowl by a Springsteen fan on why the show sucked so bad.

This paragraph was never more true.

But that half-time show at the Super Bowl--12 excruciating minutes--puts me in an indefensible position to the people who I've been trying to convert for all these years. Now they'll never listen to me.

Personally, I don't give a fuck who they throw out there. Generally, I switch over to Discovery Channel or anything else but the halftime show because it's almost always overraught crap performed by somebody I don't give two shits about in the first place. I switch back when the game thread indicates play has resumed. The only reason I saw yesterday's barf fest was because I watched the game at somebody else's house.

I also enjoy deeper artists, such as The Eagles, Queen, and Styx.

Dude ... a puddle in the Sahara is deeper than those three.

:spock:

Springsteen wasn't bad and, as someone else pointed out, Born in the USA isn't exactly a patriotic song. Anyone who thinks so either hasn't bothered to actually listen to anything but the chorus, or isn't too bright.

What people also have to remember is that after the Jackson/Timberlake fiasco, the NFL is scared crapless and will do nothing but pick safe half time shows. It's pathetic, but that's the deal.

That's also why I'll usually change the channel. I watched this one just because I wanted to see what he'd do, and it was alright as far as these things go. Not spectacular, and someone like AC/DC would kick huge ass, but ... meh.

Elton would've been nothing without Bernie Taupin but since they were a team, you're right he's awesome and if you haven't heard such tunes as Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,Roy Rogers,All The Young Girls Love Alice,Teacher I Need You and Madman Across the Water,do yourself a favor and check them out asap.

"My Father's Gun."
Great song, though I could never figure out why a gay guy from England would be singing a Civil War song about a southern soldier.

At least they didn't have dancers. The choreographed sh*t is is the worst. Bunch of kids or pillowbiters who couldn't give two shits about the actual game, parading around in spandex to the tunes of Ashlee Simpson or some other useless twit.

At least this year it was a real band with real musicians who really played, and they did it in a low-key manner.

More than fun?? What, you want stock advise too?? It cost me a 12 pack of beer, and a lemon and blueberry tart that my wife made. With that I got tons of food brought by other people. Also, I got several hours of baby sitting service because my daughter had several friends to play with while I drank. When he performed, we turned up the volume and enjoyed. I'm not a music critic, I had fun. If you attended the super bowl hoping you would get your moneys worth from the half time show, well, you get what you deserve.

I thought it Rocked but I was sure Born in the USA would be in there.

But I like the guy...

I thought Bruce was great.

He couldn't play "Born in the U.S.A. -- it's a protest song :D
