A friend needs a place to stay here in the KC area for a couple of weeks, but wants something small. It should have some kind of kitchen and doesn't have to be big, but it needs to be cheap.
I checked out the ValuePlace, but that place is a shithole. It's the right price range, but good god. Extended Stay America was like $450/wk. Much too expensive.
Any other options?

It can be, but I've never had a bad experience on Craigslist, and I buy almost everything from there.

There are hotels that rent suites by the week, geared towards business people and construction workers. Usually around $175-200/week.

Where are these prices? I haven't seen anything close to those rates. How do you obtain them?

I think the "kitchen" part of the plan is being overlooked.
There's a place on Merriam Drive that has lots of hookers and kitchenettes. Would that work?

Depends on how cheap the hookers are. Oh, also room price.

I rent out the house I live in for $240 a month. Use craigslist, have really had no problems.
Most larger cities have rooms available that can be rented by the hour.
Ask around.

True story.. Value Place is not recommendable. Stayed there for a week when I moved to Memphis for 7 months. Weird ass people.. weird way they ran the place.. box springs... definitely don't go there if anyone ever has the urge. As far as KC area I have no advice. I lived in Virgina Inn in Lawrence for 2 months in the Summer of 06'. That was affordable.. but no kitchen.

Seriously. I use Priceline and Hotwire a lot for traveling for work. I just checked Hotwire for one week and got $39 a night for a 3 star hotel. I usually find that I can bid cheaper on Priceline. For example, I would not be surprised if you bid 31-35 a night for a 2 star, that your bid would be accepted. Priceline almost always puts me in an extended stay or a candlewood suites for that price. Plus, Candlewood has a free laundry room use.

Are you locked in to whatever they put you in if you bid?

Yes, if your bid is accepted, it is locked. However, I have never been disappointed by Priceline. They always put me in good accommodations. Also, once a bid is accepted, you have the option of extending at the same rate if needed.
