On Wednesday evening, Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt conducted the club’s first-ever Fan Forum. This virtual town hall meeting provided Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holders an exclusive opportunity to submit their questions to Hunt and hear from him on a variety of topics important to all Chiefs fans.

Moderated by Chiefs Director of Public Relations Bob Moore, this hour-long session covered a host of issues. Hunt gave his view on the direction of the franchise and provided a detailed explanation of the specific qualities that led him to hire General Manager Scott Pioli and Head Coach Todd Haley to guide the football fortunes of the Kansas City Chiefs. Among many other notable points of conversation, Hunt addressed the ongoing renovations at Arrowhead Stadium and also discussed plans to commemorate the Chiefs 50th anniversary season in 2009.

In case you weren’t able to participate on Wednesday evening, here is your opportunity to listen to the highlights of this conversation with Clark Hunt.

You have to be a season ticket holder to have access to this virtual fan forum?

Chiefs will be wearing a patch on their jerseys to honor the 50th year of the team. Also, they will be wearing throwback jerseys against some fellow former AFL teams. They have petitioned the NFL to allow them to wear throwbacks against the Cowboys. First time ever the Dallas Cowboys would play the "Dallas Texans".

Texans throwbacks? Did they look the same as the old...and new jerseys?

Don't expect the Chiefs to sign a big name free agent

Hunt said the Chiefs won't be active in the early goings of free agency.

Translation: Don't expect any big name free agents signings.

With most of the current crop of top flight free agents either A) resigning with their team (Channing Crowder) or B) asking for too much money (Albert Haynesworth), the Chiefs will, as expected, look for the value free agents.

GM Scott Pioli made a career out of these types of moves in New England so expect the Chiefs to do the same in 2009. When the time comes, we'll be active in free agency. But just because the free agency period is about to start, doesn't mean we have to reach on the limited talent available.

An elementary economic rule applies here: When the supply is low, the demand is high. In this case, the demand means overpaying. And when you're working with a limited amount of money (i.e. salary cap), overpaying can be devastating.

As Pioli has said before, it's not about the best 53 players, it's about the right 53 players.

This shouldn't come to a shock to anyone.

He's been saying this since Pioli was hired.

Pretty much the same expect for the Texans logo which was the state of Texas.

He also said that he "would expect Scott and Todd to focus on the defense to some degree in the draft and I would expect also expect to see a number of signings in free agency designed to bolster the defense".

I think we are actually going to sign a good number of FA's.

It just won't be the guys fans are begging for like Haynesworth, etc.

Guys like Michael Boley, Igor Olshansky, Chris Canty, Demetric Evans, Eric Ghiaciuc, etc.

Hell, Boley might be the top of the ladder for us.

Demetric Evans could be the steal of FA, IMO.

I listened. Seemed to be legit questions to me, kinda because some of them were so stupid. "Mr Hunt, who are we going to take with the 3rd pick?" Does anybody in the world think he'd answer a question like that?

One thing pretty enlightening to me...One thing that kinda chaps my ass is the whole "Wolfpack Club" thing, as if I don't spend enough for season tickets, they want us to send more? $575 1 time 'initiation fee' and an extra $190 per year. Then, if you want Gold Reserved parking or Lower Level, Chiefs side tickets the only way to get them is to join the Wolfpack. You weren't able in the past anyway to upgrade into lower level Chiefs side, maybe off of the corners but nothing decent. I took a friend's 18 year seniority prior to transferring tickets to me and couldn't get down there...got lower upperdeck 45 yard line, but not downstairs.

Anyway, somebody from Iowa said they were looking to upgrade to the lower level and wanted to know if they were going to have to buy anything extra (meaning the Wolfpack club or Club 50) to do so. Clark said "I really don't understand the question, when you renew you can participate in the upgrade program and we have a limited number of those kinds of seats available..."

Clark Hunt doesn't know what's required to get to the Lower Level Chiefs side?!!? I always figured that was a Carl Peterson money grab, and gobbling up Red Parking Lot C for Gold Reserved they sell only to Wolfpack members turned off a lot of my friends. But, Clark is that far out of touch? Last few years a lot of little things have changed, and Clark isn't aware of that?

They ran a poll several times as to whether you've renewed yet or not, planned to, or wasn't going to. Then of course, they offered you 4-5 chances to press 1 for a Chiefs Ticket Representative. It's wasn't very inspiring and was purely a marketing effort.

I'm sure they'll address the DLine at some point. Tomorrow morning will not likely be Christmas for us though, no doubt.

I will say that passing on talks with G/C Jason Brown is a mistake.

I understand and agree with the supply/demand post, but I bet we go into 2009 $35M under the cap. The Hunts have a renovation to pay for, and aren't likely expecting much fan support at the games...especially if we suck horrifically and the economy doesn't turn around any.

On man's trash is another man's treasure.

And Scott Pioli has a knack for taking the trash and turning into something useful.

Not saying he's ideal, but he's the type of guy people should be ready for, IMO.

Wouldn't shock me at all.

Clark has been saying it for almost 2 months - they'll be active, but not with Tier 1 guys. Some people just choose to hear what they want to hear.

Jason Brown and Michael Boley are the top of the ladder, IMO.

We'll probably see a lot of guys several rungs down that ladder...

Basically, they're current player salary mark is roughly $70M and before the season starts, will have to be above the $100M mark to comply with the CBA rules...so we're talking about adding $30M to the roster (of which you could figure maybe 14-16 goes out to rookies?)...

I'm not sure who or how many players to acquire this offseason, but I believe doing things right means quality over quantity. And sometimes you have to pay for that. It won't be easy to accept them being cheap these next couple months while they pimp another marketing stunt or seven.

Man, I'm gettin pissed already. I was really hoping to see the name Jason Brown on the CP screen at 11:04pm....maybe they'll surprise us, but I doubt it. There's a lot of talk of teams wanting to wait out the storm of the FA floodgates, and I'm sure we're one of them.
