Excellent point. In the NFL the only real money you given is the guaranteed money. That and the salary cap ramifications. But the rest is gone with an old heave-ho.

It was posted awhile back, I know the Redskins because of their market and stadium and such turn something in the area of 80+ mill where the Chiefs are closer to 40.

Supposedly 6 teams offered Haynesworth atleast 30 mill guaranteed, it came down to Washington and Tampa.

I guess when that many teams offer that much it's the going rate.

It's the stadium...the Chiefs don't have the luxury boxes the Redskins do, think about this, one the Redskins own their stadium, 2 they have 200+ luxury boxes to the Chiefs about 80 and their stadium seats about 85 thousand.

October 22, 2009. This just in - Albert Haynesworth has yet to live up to his contract expectations. With 6 games under his Redskins belt, he's got 0 sacks and only 10 tackles. Albert's coach blames his ballooning weight for his slowdown. Said Albert, "Man, do you realize how many Big Macs you can buy with $100 Million!".

I don't think the Chiefs could sell 200 luxury boxes this market isn't like DC or Dallas.

There is no way you could have a deal like this in place so soon after free agency begins. I thought you were allowed no contact and no negotiation until midnight? The league lets this crap go, but it is B.S. Why even have a defined time to start free agency? No one follows the rules.

Every team can do this stuff, most do. There is no disadvantage to any given team unless they don't have the cash, or are unwilling. That is a seperate issue. No Chiefs fan would be mad if they had pulled this. It's like all the steroid stuff in baseball. It eventually comes out that everybody does business the same way.

Personally I think the contract sucks but I would rather be a fan of a team that is willing to go out and spend the money than a team that isn't. It disgusts me being a fan of two of the cheapest teams in the NFL and MLB. I hate the guy but Al Davis' "just win baby" is true. Do whatever it takes to win. Free agency is another venue by which to add talent and for the most part we completely choose to avoid it. Pretty sad IMO.

The Royals are spending money - record payroll I believe, and they tried to overspend their budget to get Hudson. And the Chiefs have spent plenty of money over the years.

Backloading the contract. I've heard he is only owed 4 million the first year and then it goes up dramatically from there.

Any team can do this kind of thing, but that doesn't mean it is wise. Every team has to deal with the same salary cap. Plus, Synder has just escalated the franchise tag number for every team.

Synder must of had a man crush.

The deal, which was reached early Friday morning, includes $41 million in guarantees. During the first 13 months of the contract, Haynesworth will earn approximately $32 million.

The Chiefs have spent plenty of money over the years? Try reading the article from arrowheadpride that showed us as having spent the 2nd least in the NFL over the last decade or so on payroll. Yep, we sure have spent money over the years.

I was never putting my fan-ness up for sale. I could never be a fan of another team even if I wanted to be. That wasn't the point. The point was that if you had the two extremes of spending way TOO much money or not spending near ENOUGH money I would rather be on the end of the spectrum of the teams that spend too much.

They've signed MANY high-profile free agents over that same amount of time. They gave fat contracts to several players that may or may not have deserved them. At one point, Derrick Thomas was the highest-paid defensive player in the entire league.

The last 10 years do not constitute the entirety of franchise history. Hell, they only make up HALF of Carl Peterson's entire tenure.

Yes, the Chiefs HAVE spent money over the years, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

Furthermore, this isn't the old regime. It's been widely reported that Pioli is the highest-paid GM in all of football. So don't act indignant when the Chiefs don't want to give a lardass like Haynesworth $100M. They're not cheap, they're smart.

All of Snyder's money was paper money acquired in stock purchases. He owns like 10% of Six Flags, which may go under this year.

He's losing his ass on everything but the Redskins, and he's giving out 30 million in the first year to Haynesworth.
