#15 Missouri 25-5(12-3) at Texas A&M 22-8(8-7)
Tipoff is at 2:00pm EST on ESPN2

Mizzou is looking to secure the #2 seed in the Big 12 tournament against a Texas A&M team that has won 5 straight and is trying to finish with a winning record in conference and possibly a NCAA tournament bid after a slow start to the season.

Don't forget you also have a chance to share the 'ship today.

Texas A&M looked like balls in AFH, but I think they came around and are playing a little better.

I really doubt that KU loses today, though.

It was really doubtful that they'd lose last week, too.

True.

Good teams respond well after a loss, typically. Look at MU -- laid an egg in Lawrence, then responded by beating the pants off of Oklahoma with Blake G. I don't expect the free-falling Longhorns to put up much of a fight against the energy that Bill Self should have his Jayhawks playing with.

Senior forward Leo Lyons may be getting overshadowed somewhat by his frontcourt mate, Carroll, but Lyons is a dynamic player in his own right. The 6-9, 244-pound senior is a physical defender in the paint and can get out and run with the rest of the Tigers. He's a major force offensively and on the boards, and it'll be tough for Elonu to stick with Lyons in the open court and with his aggressiveness in the paint. Junior forward Chinemelu Elonu (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=62024) pulled down nine rebounds at Colorado, but had just two points and was visibly winded in his first major minutes at altitude. Elonu has also had problems against teams that like to run like Missouri. But offensively, Elonu might not see a lot of double teams with the Tigers boasting one of the best defensive frontcourts in the Big 12 conference. That favors Elonu with the ball in his hands in the paint.

Senior forward DeMarre Carroll (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=48561) has put together a fantastic season for Missouri, leading the team in points and rebounds and second on the team in blocks and steals and third in assists. The 6-8, 225-pounder can do it all on offense and defense and is one of the most well-rounded big men in the Big 12. Carroll can also step outside and shoot from the 3-point arc where he has hit 13 of 32 attempts this season. Limiting Carroll should be concern No. 1 for A&M.

It was the tale of two halves for A&M junior forward Bryan Davis (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=79081) in Colorado. In the first half he was a turnover machine and ended the game with six, but he also finished with nine points and nine rebounds after a strong second half that helped spur the Aggies onto a comeback win in Boulder. Davis will have his hands full with Carroll, and the key will to not get into foul trouble early as A&M's backups in the paint don't look to fare well against Carroll.

Freshman Kim English (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=409505) has stepped into the starting lineup for Lawrence, but Lawrence could easily find himself in the starting lineup as well. The 6-6, 200-pound English is averaging 16.8 minutes in conference play and is hitting 37.2-percent form 3-point range while averaging 6.3 points in the Big 12. English, however, can get real hot from outside and provides good size in the backcourt for the Tigers.

A&M senior Josh Carter (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=62020) has been lighting teams up as of late and did it again with 18 points against Colorado Wednesday despite sitting most of the first half with early foul trouble. Carter seems to be willing his team into the NCAA tournament, and the senior has finally stood up and taken over the leadership reigns that were his for the taking all along. And the Aggies are much better for it.

Junior guard Zaire Taylor (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=411040) has been a mainstay in the Missouri starting lineup after sitting out last season after transferring from Delaware. The 6-4, 189-pound combo guard is an amazing defender with a lot of length, he has a 6-7 wingspan, and is great with the ball in his hands (2.78 assist-to-turnover ratio). He isn't a major force on the offensive end when it comes to scoring, but he does possess excellent court vision. He'll most likely matchup with Carter on the defensive end.

A&M junior guard Derrick Roland (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=79091) has really picked it up on the offensive end in transition, taking the ball to the rim and showing off his outstanding athletic ability. He should have plenty of opportunities to do that against the wide open style of Missouri. But Roland's largest asset is on defense, and although Cory Higgins put up 27 against the Aggies, most of those points came on easy lay-ups off turnovers. Roland will most likely defend Tiller to disrupt Missouri's flow on offense.

Junior guard J.T. Tiller (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=76422) is much like Taylor in that he is an excellent defender on the perimeter and disrupts the opposing with ease while taking very good care of the ball on the offensive end. He leads the Tigers in steals, but unlike Taylor he is a definite threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands. He's shooting 43.4-percent from the field, but has been awful from the 3-point arc in shooting just 20-percent in Big 12 games.

Junior guard Donald Sloan (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=76529) hasn't been himself in recent games until crunch time in Boulder. Sloan took over the game late, driving the lane and getting bucket after bucket to put the Aggies further out in front of the Buffaloes on his way to 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and just one turnover. Against a running, pressing and trapping team like Missouri, the Aggies will need their point guard to be at his best Saturday for A&M to get the win.

This season, one of the keys to Missouri's success has been just that. Senior small forward Matt Lawrence (http://tamu.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=61997) has made the move to the bench, but still gets 19.9 minutes per game in the Big 12. He's Missouri's third-leading scorer with 8.5 points per game and is deadly from outside, hitting 40.7-percent of his 3-point attempts. Junior forward Keith Ramsey isn't a major scoring threat, but the 6-9, 210-pound athletic forward is a defensive wizard and leads the Tigers in blocks with 28 despite getting just 14.2 minutes per game. Freshman guard Marcus Denmon has been a pleasant help off the bench, averaging 6.9 points per game in 17.5 minutes per game. He likes to shoot from outside, but is just 32.7-percent from 3-point range this season. Freshman guard Miguel Paul gets about 12.4 minutes per game and is a backup point guard with solid ball control and great court vision. The 5-11 sophomore can flat out shoot and has shown a fearlessness not found in many underclassmen. Against Colorado, Holmes lit up the Buffaloes for 16 points including shooting 4-7 from 3-point range and burying 4-5 free throws down the stretch. Holmes is fifth in the Big 12 in 3-point shooting, hitting 43.2-percent. Harris has shown that he can play extraordinary defense while becoming a much better floor general with the ball in his hands. He is great against the press with his speed, which may make him see more time Saturday against Missouri. Sophomore forward Nathan Walkup has seen a lot more time in recent games as the Aggies have pressed more on defense and gone small. Freshman forward David Loubeau has seen less time for the same reason. But against a very good Mizzou frontcourt, the way Loubeau responds may be a huge part of Saturday's game. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

TIGERS vs AGGIES: Round One

Missouri looks to lock up the second seed in next week's Big 12 tournament and possibly earn a share of the league title as the Tigers travel to College Station on Saturday afternoon. Missouri is 25-and-5 and 12-and-3 in Big 12 play. Texas A&M is 22-and-8 and 8-and-7. Missouri leads the series 11-6, but A&M has won four straight and holds a 4-3 edge in College Station. PowerMizzou.com has the preview:

<!-- End LSU Josh Carter dunk 200 Image-->Tourney on the Line: In all likelihood, A&M is playing to lock up a tournament bid. Because the Aggies have a strong non-conference resume that includes wins over LSU and Arizona, it's not out of the question that they could be dancing even with a loss. But a win over the Tigers would pretty much ice things. After a loss to Baylor, A&M stood 17-and-8 and 3-and-7 in the Big 12 and had pretty much been left for dead. Since then, Mark Turgeon (http://missouri.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=1785)'s team has reeled off five straight wins, but only a home victory over Texas was against a team in the top half of the league standings.

Living in the 60s: As much as any team outside of Nebraska, the Aggies would like to slow the pace against Missouri. Texas A&M is third in the Big 12 in scoring defense, giving up just 65 points per game. They also score only 70.5 points, which ranks them ninth in the league. A&M has not allowed a single team to score more than 78 points this season. The Tigers are averaging 81.7 per game.

Carter the Key: Marksman Josh Carter (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=62020) is the only Aggie in the league's top 20 in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Carter is one of the league's best three-point shooters, averaging 2.4 makes per game from beyond the arc and shooting 41%. He is also second in the league in free-throw percentage. Carter has been red hot in the Ags' five game winning streak. He has averaged 18 points per game and made 60% of his three-pointers (21-for-35). In the last four games, Carter has gone for 19.5 points per night and shot 69.2% from behind the arc, including a 7-of-10 performance against Iowa State when he scored a season high 29 points.

<CENTER style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">Three Things You Need to Know About the Tigers</CENTER>

Solid on the Road: Much has been made this week of the Tigers' 18-and-record at home and that's where Mizzou really made hay this season. But the team has been solid on the road as well. Missouri has won four of its seven league road games, including three in a row before a loss at Kansas last Sunday. With a win on Saturday, Mizzou would finish with a 5-and-3 record on the road in league play. The last time the Tigers finished over .500 in Big 12 road games was 1999-2000 when Quin Snyder's first team was 5-and-3 away from home.

<!-- End jt tiller 267 ku Image-->Improving Defense: In their first 21 games, the Tigers gave up 75 points or more eight times. They lost three of those games. In the nine games since, Missouri has given up 75 only once. Not coincidentally, that game was Mizzou's only loss in the last nine. The recent stretch has moved Missouri up to sixth in the league in scoring defense at 66.2 points per game. In those nine games, only Iowa State and Kansas exceeded their season scoring averages against the Tigers. In seven of the nine games, the opponent was held at least six points under its season average, including Oklahoma and Kansas (in Columbia) scoring at least 15 below their season marks.

Balance the Key: Missouri is second in the Big 12 in scoring despite just two players averaging as many as nine points per game. DeMarre Carroll (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=48561) and Leo Lyons (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=79909) are both in the Big 12's top 15 in scoring individually, but no other Tiger is near the list. Missouri has seven players averaging at least five points per game. Only Kansas State, with eight, has more players at that mark.

<CENTER style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">Three Keys to the Game</CENTER>

Speed it Up: The Aggies do have more depth than many teams in the Big 12 as 11 players have played at least 17 minutes in a game this season. But the Aggies have six players averaging 25 minutes or more (Missouri has only two) and have cut the rotation as the season has gone on. But the issue here isn't so much the depth as the style of play. Again, nobody has scored 80 on A&M all season long. Nebraska is the only other Big 12 team that can make that claim. Missouri has hit that mark 17 times this season. They have won all 17. If Missouri gets this game into the eighties, or even the mid-seventies, their chances go up significantly.

Defend the Three: The Tigers have given up twenty fewer three-point shots than any other team in the Big 12 this season. Mizzou is allowing opponents to shoot only 31.3% from beyond the line. No other team has held opponents under 33%. Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year candidate J.T. Tiller (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=76422) deserves much of the credit for that stat, along with backcourt mate Zaire Taylor (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=411040). The exploits of Josh Carter were mentioned above and he and B.J. Holmes (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=84161) both rank in the top ten in the league in three-point accuracy. Still, the Aggies have made more threes than only Colorado and Texas this season.

Take it Away: Turnover margin is a stat more often mentioned with football than hoops. But perhaps no number has been more important to Missouri's season. The Tigers get seven more turnovers than they give away each game, far and away the best in the Big 12. Mizzou has forced 584 turnovers by the opposition. Only Kansas State is within 100 of that number in the league. Meanwhile, Texas A&M ranks ninth in the league in turnover margin. The Aggies commit the third-fewest turnovers in the league, but they also force fewer than any team except Colorado. If the Tigers can turn this category into a lopsided advantage, they should win the game.

Official Prediction: There are two major factors in favor of the Aggies here: First, they're at home. The Aggies are 16-and-2 at Reed Arena with wins over Texas, Arizona and LSU. Only Oklahoma and Kansas State have won in College Station. Second, they're playing for a tournament bid. But that factor could have been somewhat mitigated thanks to Texas Tech. When the Red Raiders beat Kansas in the Big 12's biggest upset of the season, Missouri's hopes for a share of the conference title got new life. The Jayhawks don't tip off until Missouri and A&M should be just about finished, so the Tigers will go into the game with hopes of a shared crown still alive. In addition, Missouri is coming off of its most complete effort of the season. Carter is the one Aggie who seems to be able to take over a game and lift his team to victory. But his biggest strength (outside shooting) has also been Mizzou's biggest strength (perimeter defense). We'll take Tiller and Taylor to slow down Carter, Holmes and Donald Sloan (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=76529) and wear out the Aggie big men.

Missouri clinches the second seed with a gritty 72-67 win.

I expect this will be a tough game today. A&M needs to win today to secure an NCAA tourney appearance, plus it's their last home game and senior day. Plus, their arguably the hottest team in the league right now.

I hope we win and finish 13-3 in the league, but wouldn't be surprised at all to see us lose to a talented team with their back against the wall.

Because KU will be so wore down...3 games in 3 days. MU is much more fit than KU so fatigue will make KU an easy mark.

I seriously doubt MU gets past OU this time. Wed OU looked like they weren't really taking the Tigers seriously at first and thought they could turn it on anytime they wanted. When the time came thay had to step up they didn't have enough left in the tank. They won't make that mistake again.

Also, OKC is a home game for OU. They will be much tougher.

That said, I also doubt KU can get past OU. Missing Blake was huge in the last game and I think he'll step up a bit more than normal against KU since he missed the last game.

Now, I'd like for my Tigers to sweep, but I have major doubts with OU. If they do get past OU, I think they have a decent chance for a W against KU.

We're the biggest Jekyll/Hyde team in the country. Just asking for some consistency.

They're a lock for a 2 or 3 seed in the Big 12 tournament, and considering the 2 and 3 seed play each other in the semis, it doesn't really matter.

As far as the big tournament, maybe... I think they're pretty much set as a 3 or 4 seed right now, but every win helps when it comes to getting a couple of games in KC.

A&M is playing really well, which is just another reason why I say it should be forgotten... like I said, sh*t happens. It's the same as Kansas/TTech. People want to link every game together, but I'm telling you, it doesn't matter. Mizzou isn't going to play better or completely collapse in the B12 tournament because of this game. Besides, there's another half in this game... all they have to do is get it under 10, and all of a sudden they have all the confidence in the world.

Seems like they lack confidence on the road. Shots they would take at home they pass up on. I saw numerous shot opportunities off of rebounds in the first half that they passed on. They get to second guessing and then start forcing shots they shouldn't take.

Lyons started driving instead of taking the outside shot towards the end of the first half and it gave a little lift.

'Course, it would also help if we could hit free throws.

Yeah, I know... just stirring the pot. Saying nothing is better than the "OMG, we suck so much" stuff. Like I said at halftime, chip away and get it within 10, and all of a sudden the team is full of confidence and the 20 point deficit doesn't matter.

They moved it for the men this year. Didn't know about the women until I Googled it...

The women's committee decided to keep its line at 19 feet, 9 inches, meaning there will be two distances and, possibly, two different lines on courts that men's and women's programs share.

And I was going to spare you a comparison to last year's Jayhawk team, because comparing an actual championship team with this year's Missouri team (or this year's Kansas team) is ridiculous.....

Anyway, that actual championship team last year lost it's two biggest road games of the regular season (@Texas and @KSU), and was completely flat @OSU and lost.
