View Full Version : Life Three Bucks!

Rain Man

I found three bucks!

I was just walking down the street on my way home, and I looked down, and there was a dollar. And so I picked it up, and it felt thick and it was three of them!

I think this was my second-greatest money find ever. When I was in high school, I found a $20 bill once, but it's long gone by now. I've got this three bucks burning a hole in my pocket now, and I may splurge on myself a little bit. Maybe buy a little something for the wifey, too, and maybe something for the cat. Somebody else's pain is going to be my pleasure.

You can buy a....coke.

Wonder what the value of the $20 bill was in 1970? Or so?

Rain Man

Coke. That's a good idea, but I'll have to wait until the weekend. I might get a rubber band for my cat. Maybe a McDonald's coffee for the wife. And for me? Maybe...I don't know...a coke sounds good.

Count Zarth

They have Mocha at McDonalds now. GO CRAZY!

Rain Man

Wonder what the value of the $20 bill was in 1970? Or so?

$20. Is this a trick question?

And it would have been in the 80s, for your information. The 80s. As in Cyndi Lauper.

Count Zarth

I meant to say...what would the value of 20 1980 dollars be today?

DaFace

I meant to say...what would the value of 20 1980 dollars be today?

Probably around $50.

Rain Man
03-16-2009, 10:58 PM
I meant to say...what would the value of 20 1980 dollars be today?

It couldn't buy a McDonald's mocha at that point. So therefore, the three dollars may be worth more today.

Rain Man
03-16-2009, 10:59 PM
Probably around $50.

But how much RAM would it buy back then? How many cell phone minutes?

DaFace
03-16-2009, 11:03 PM
You know...I think that I found $20 back then. Well, OK, it was proably closer to 1988, but I distinctly remember finding $20 under the seat at a Royals game back in the day. :hmmm:

you could buy 2 things from the "2 for $3" menu at Dairy Queen.

You could keep them in your pocket, and give them individually to the next 3 beggars that hit you up.

You could go into a truck stop restroom and buy a condom with a tickler end that looks like a miniature Jester hat for your bride's laughter.

You could try to find this amount 40,000 more times to pay your taxes.

You could use it on the shipping and handling for the "Extenz"free sample commercial I just saw.

You could cash them in for quarters and drop them near ladies with skirts on......

1 loaded pull on a $1 slot machine could get you a half million dollar opportunity!

You're in KaliRado...you could buy a tube of carmex medicated chap stick.

I would use it to start a pyramid scheme, turn it immediately into $6, and recieve $1 for each person that passed on the great opportunity!

You could photograph them, put them into photoshop and copy them 2100 times, and email the picture to your landlord at the first of each month, with a note that you're working on a new 'electronic payment method' for your rent increase.

You could use it to hire 3 gentlemen hanging around near Home Depot to help move those boulders to your back yard.

You could buy stamps, and email a letter to the 2 companies you're reported as "wronging" you on here and your former boss. Its acceptable if you were to have an intern wipe their bottom with the letter before sending for "effect".

It's creepy on a whole other level.

When I worked at Worlds of fun as a groundsquirrel, I found $ all the time. Even a $100 once. People never look down. The first time I found a $20, I made a mistake of asking someone if it was theirs. Whoops. After that I just scooped it up into my pan and went into the bathroom to fetch it. When you're making $1.80/hr, that's a pretty good tip.

Buy a Chiefs bumper sticker and place it on the rear car bumper of the most obnoxious bronco fan you know in the Greater Dungver metro area.

Maybe you can buy some of the bumper sticker printer paper, and use $3 worth to make "I'd rather have Matt Cassel. Go Chiefs!" and place them on the first 10-15 cars with Donk items on them.

One time in gym class in 6th grade, I found a $50 bill on the floor of a crowded gymnasium. I picked it up, peeing myself, and said aloud, "I just found $50!" My gym teacher then said, "oh, I was looking for that...thank you!" and took it from me.......

I died a little......

Also, when my wife was 11, she was in New York on a family vacation and got into the backseat of a taxicab with her grandma. She found a $100 bill on the seat cushion and without thinking twice, gave it to the cab driver and said, "sir, someone left this money back here!"

My dad found $800 in the phone book in his hotel room in Vegas a couple of years ago.

I've found money quite a few times over the years.
While going through a rapids at Current River or Jacks Fork...I reached down at a flash like Miagi with a goldfish in his hand and snatched up what turned out to be a lady-wallet....It had wet KOOL pack and a roll of money....most of which turned out to be $1s, I think like $35/$40. I split it with my cousin who was in my boat. I found $2 the next day as we put the canoes in at Montauk.

I found $40 at a gas station in college, on the way to a random road trip to Purdue with a friend to a party...and didn't really have the money to be going.

I've been lucky finding 5-10-$20s at events and parking lots over the years.

Used to find a lot of cash(not huge sums, just often) in cars the summers I worked for an auto crusher. The only time I felt icky about finding money was in a U shaped Dodge convertible....it was $17 and had blood on it.

After a great deal of thought, I invested the first dollar getting two new holes in one of my belts. My pants were about to fall down this morning, so I thought that was good use of a dollar.

My buddy, Andy Dufresne, told me that there's a tax loophole you should take advantage of. Turns out that once in your lifetime you can claim an amount that you found on the street as tax-free. Given that this doesn't happen to you very often (and this particular event will probably be the highlight of your year), I think you should stick it to the man and take the full three dollars that you found.

The guy in front of me at McDonald's the other day dropped a $100 bill. I saw it and handed it to him. The guy freaked out that I actually gave it back. He offered to pay for my family's meal, but honestly, he looked like he needed the money more than we did.

However, $100 would have been pretty cool.
