Don't know if this has been done or not, but I thought I'd start a "rate my fantasy baseball team" thread since we seem to see a lot of those each year and many people are probably doing their drafts now.

My league has 8 teams and we drafted auction style. Here's my team:

C - Geovany Soto, Chris Iannetta

1B - Derrek Lee, Pablo Sandoval

2B - Chase Utley

3B - Chipper Jones

SS - Hanley Ramirez, Mike Aviles

OF - Carlos Beltran, Shane Victorino, Chris B. Young, Johnny Damon, Shin-Soo Choo, Adam Jones

SP - CC Sabathia, Johan Santana, Justin Verlander, Aaron Harang, Chris Carpenter, Max Scherzer

RP - Francisco Rodriguez, Bobby Jenks, Brian Fuentes

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my draft. I think I'm a little light when it comes to 1B, 3B, and OF, but my strategy was to get elite players for C, 2B, and SS. It seems like you can always find 1B, 3B, and OF on waivers.

As far as pitching goes, I feel really good there too.

What do you guys think?

Your pitching definitely is solid with the top two SPs or at worst two of the top three SPs. My question is are you in a four team league or something that you end up with HanRam, Utley, CC and Santana? Keeper league maybe?

8 teams.....that's like a talent fire-sale. Good Christ, the worst team in that league is loaded, this is impossible to rate without seeing the other squads really.

Nope, 8 teams and the league is not a keeper league.

The draft was auction format. We had $260, I paid in the $30s for each of those 4.

Again, my strategy was that there's a lot of depth when it comes to 1B, 3B, and OF, but not a lot of depth at 2B, SS, C, and RP. So, I tried to outbid others to get elite players at each of those 4 positions.

As for my SPs, my goal was to get at least 1 elite SP and I somehow ended up with 2 of them.

In that respect, I think you did well.

However, I disagree with 3B. It's the most deceptive position to me, because there really isn't "depth". It drops off heavily after the top few guys. The rest of your stuff looks good, but again, with only 8 Teams its kind of tough to gauge.

I had my other league's draft last Wednesday, curious to hear any comments, as I'm not exactly seasoned at Baseball drafts, but I felt good.

We have a 12-team league, and you'll notice we have "pure" position OF slots, so position plays a role out there....and RP is bolstered a bit in the scoring system, but I still think I'll need another SP.

Is there an innings minimum? If so, get yourself some reliable starting pitching. Your top 3 starters have huge question marks.

blazzin311

Yea the innings min. is 7. Good thing is every year i do fan football, baseball, and sometimes basketball. But i've always been really good at putting together patchwork teams due to injuries, or just bad depth to start with. There are a few sp's that i'm thinkin about that are available. Just waiting to see who starts the season off better of the pitchers i have in mind. just to name a few: SP - Edwin Jackson (Det.)
SP - Ubaldo Jiminez (Col.)
SP - Jered Weaver (LAA)
SP - Nick Blackburn (Min.)

Were you drafting with idiots?

You got the top SS, top 2nd baseman, two of the top three starting pitchers, the top closer...one of the best 3rd baseman (as long as he's healthy), a top five catcher...a 3rd or 4th round pick in Beltran to go along with two top 100 picks in Damon and Victorino who are solid in a bunch of different offensive categories...scored two more quality closers and a few sleepers...I'd be curious to see what some of those idiots were bidding on.

In this league, can the OF's have multi field eligibility? For instance, is Ichiro eligible as RF and CF?

I play in a 20 team keeper auction league and each team rosters 35 players. Pickings are mighty slim when we get down to the $1 bids.

I'm curious.....in a league that small, what did Pujols go for? What did you pay for Ramirez?

DrRyan
03-30-2009, 06:58 PM
12 team H2H points league for both leagues.

Team One:
C - Bengie Molina
1B - A. Gonzalez, J. Votto
2B - Kinsler, Alexi Rameriz
SS - Alexi Rameriz(eligible week 2 at SS), Tejada
3B - D. Wright
OF - C. Quentin, Markakis, C. Young(AZ),
SP - Felix Hernandez, James Shields, Scherzer, Cueto, Randy Johnson, D. Price, Hochevar, Andrew Miller, John Lannan, Ian Snell
RP - Broxton, Lindstrom, Qualls

Obviously this team is weak in the pitching department, but everyone in this league is crazy for pitching and it goes waaaaaay earlier than it should. So, I stocked up on must start stud bats and will have to be active on the waiver wire.

Team 2
C - Ryan Doumit
1B - Billy Butler
2B - Utley
SS - Stephen Drew, Brandon Wood
3B - Zimmerman
MI - Theriot
CI - Mike Jacobs, Pablo Sandoval, Josh Fields
OF - Dunn, Ellsbury, Kemp, Ludwick, Pence
SP - Billingsley, Gavin Floyd, James Shields, Lackey, Brett Myers, Randy Johnson, W. Rodriguez, R. Wolf
RP - M. Rivera, BJ Ryan, Marmol

This team is from a ten team, ten player keeper league that I have won twice and been in the playoffs the last three years with. Due to that, I had very little in the keeper variety.

I really like the bats on team one and think I should be able to work some waiver wire magic through out the season to help out the pitching. Team two is probably going to struggle, but I expected it. It always happens like that in this league if you make a run of several years in a row trading you keepers for first couple round talent.

I play in a league every year with some good friends. Usually 8 to 10 teams, but we just use the standard CBS Sports rules. What does the 10x10 and 12x12 etc mean when talking about leagues?

I use rotoworld for stats and draft suggestions, any other good sites for similar info? Our draft is less than a week away.

Well, you should certainly win saves every week.

Can you trade a closer or two or three for a hitting or SP upgrade?

I think a lot of teams are planning to punt Saves. I got gonzales and Francisco the last 2 rounds. Teams were able to keep up to 5 players, my keepers were Prince, Morneau, and Manny. My team is not good and def needs some work, but I bet I win HR and RBI every week. :(

So it's my first baseball league, friend made me join last minute. It's weekly head to head mixed al/nl on espn. It seems like it leans more to a pitchers league from the settings I saw. How I do? Oh and BTW, do I really need a DH in a mixed league?

Now this is a good team.

Love the A-Rod/Chipper duo. That's the best platoon I've seen with A-Rod and makes perfect sense. Nice balance between offense and pitching. I think you will make hay when Chipper and A-Rod are both bopping.

Bumping this so you guys can grade this trade I just made. I traded CC Sabathia straight up for Mark Teixeira. What do you think?

Here's my remaining starting pitchers:

Johan Santana
Justin Verlander
Aaron Harang
Erik Bedard
Jair Jurrjens
Johnny Cueto
Chris Carpenter (DL)

My only options at 1B prior to the trade were Derrek Lee (killing me) and Nick Swisher (really hot lately, but will it last?).

My lineup now looks like this:

C - Geovany Soto, Chris Iannetta
1B - Mark Teixeira, Derrek Lee
2B - Chase Utley
3B - Chipper Jones, Alex Gordon (DL)
SS - Hanley Ramirez
OF - Carlos Beltran, Adam Jones, Shane Victorino, Nick Swisher, Johnny Damon, Nelson Cruz, Kosuke Fukudome

Well if the cocksucker could get through one start without suffering a fluke injury...

Chunky steps hits him with a line drive one game, then he rolls his ankle the next game...I'm sure his next start some bird will shit in his eye or something...

Anyways...I just traded Hamels for Beckett/Lidge/Rafael Soriano (the guy has decided to trade his saves)...I had to drop Billy Butler and Clay Condrey (no big deal)...

But with Miguel Cabrera/Mike Lowell/Aubrey Huff and Adrian Beltre, I could afford to sell Adrian Gonzalez high (even though he's probably going to hit 50 this year)...the Lowell pickup allowed me to do so...

I was really banking on Elvis Andrus to get me some steals (he was packaged with Hamels when I traded AG)...but I gave up on that piece of shit and picked up Felipe Lopez.

So yeah, bad trade, but I still received decent value from it...

I traded Lincecum/Matt Holliday for Miguel Cabrera and Johnny Damon...so that makes me happy.

My team is pretty solid right now...

With the Hamels trade...I'm really banking on Harden staying healthy (cross my fingers)...

I am determined to win this league.

I think I just pulled off a great trade...

Traded Inge, Furcal and Sherrill for Hanley Ramirez.

I also traded Carlos Quentin for Ichiro.

This team is unbelievable on paper now...

Mike Napoli
Miguel Cabrera/Aubrey Huff
Howie Kendrick/Felipe Lopez
Hanley Ramirez
Mike Lowell/Adrian Beltre
Ichiro/Manny Ramirez/Raul Ibanez/Johnny Damon/Milton Bradley/Matt LaPorta

Is that offense even real?

Dude, Inge is going to be the top fantasy catcher this year...he's easily been my favorite player this year...

How many catchers can you find that play every single day?

Only reason I'm trading him is because I think Napoli has tremendous fantasy value as well.

Inge is going to hit .270 with 35 HR's and 100 RBI's and score a ton of runs...he's a quality baserunner...he's so much better when playing 3rd as opposed to catching (which really effected his hitting)...

Watch man...Inge is awesome...I love watching him play...the adjustments made on his swing are phenomenal...I watched him turn on two straight 96 MPH Sabathia fastballs and park them 425 feet (both slightly foul)...

He's money.

Brandon Inge and Raul Ibanez have been my favorite players this year...MLB.TV allows me to follow there every at bats...I'm in love with them.

I don't need any explanation. There is no league that I will ever take part in that would see a trade of an often-injured Furcal, a one month wonder in Inge and a low-level closer net Hanley Ramirez.

I buy low and sell high...
