Royals Claim Metcalf; Rangers Sign German
By Tim Dierkes [April 8 at 3:43pm CST]
According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Royals claimed third baseman Travis Metcalf off waivers from the Rangers today. The Rangers signed infielder Esteban German, formerly of the Cubs and Royals, to replace Metcalf.

Metcalf, 26, has a career line of .249/.300/.475 in 242 plate appearances. He has not had success in a couple of Triple A stints. Back in their '06 Handbook, Baseball America said Metcalf profiled as "as average hitter with potentially above-average power." They considered him a "solid defender" at the time. Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star notes that Metcalf starred at the University of Kansas back in the day.

German, 31, hit .245/.303/.338 in 242 plate appearances last year, spending time at multiple positions. He played for the Rangers back in '05 before he was traded to the Royals for Fabio Castro.

Well Koyie Hill is god awful TAKE A LAP, that's for sure.

However, Blanco was making 2 or 3 million and when you have a guy like Soto, you don't really need a Blanco for every 5th day. Koyie, though he can't hit a lick, plays solid defense and has great pop time to 2nd base.

Ultra Peanut

I think the Cubs made a mistake of letting Blanco go.Lou's got a lefty fetish. In addition to money, that's part of the reason why DeRosa and Blanco got shipped out. Your payroll is $134 million, is it really that important to pay Aaron FUCKING Miles $2 million FUCKING dollars instead of DeRosa's deserved $5 million because he's a switch (terrible) hitter?

And the catcher thing was fucking bullshit, too, because Blanco and Bako both had basically the same fucking stats against righties. Only Blanco isn't an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.

Heh at this fantasy note:

Nick Swisher went 1-for-3 with a homer and also pitched a scoreless inning in a blowout loss to the Rays on Monday night.

Yes, you read that right. After watching his pitchers allow 15 runs over the first seven innings, Joe Girardi moved Swisher from first base to the pitcher's mound in the eighth. Ironically, Swisher was the only Yankee pitcher who did not allow a run in the game. He won't likely pitch again, but can definitely earn more playing time with the way he's hitting.

LOS ANGELES

Man stabbed in lot at Dodger Stadium

The Dodgers home opener against the San Francisco Giants was marred by violence Monday afternoon when a man was stabbed multiple times after getting into an argument with several men in a pickup truck, Los Angeles police said.

The stabbing was reported at 5:43 p.m. in parking lot 6 at Dodger Stadium, said Officer Karen Rayner. The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Police were searching for the assailant, who left with two others in a black pickup truck, Rayner said. "Officers have a good description of the vehicle and the suspects, and we expect to make arrests," she said.

About the same time, police received a report of a man with a gun in parking lot 4. Rayner said police later determined that the man had been vandalizing cars and believe he was unarmed. He left before officers arrived. Despite scattered incidents of violence at the stadium, there have been no cases of major violence in recent years.

Complaints about unruly fans continue, and the stadium has a history of problems that critics have blamed on lax security.

In 2003, Marc Antenorcruz of West Covina was walking out of the stadium after a game when he got into an argument with a group that included Pete Marron. Marron was later convicted of shooting Antenorcruz to death. Fan misbehavior stemming from a club promotion early in the 2005 season led the Dodgers to hire uniformed L.A. police officers to patrol the stands.

DAMN Kershaw is ****ing the giants UP

He was on it, except that 0-2 pitch he threw to Molina, then the ****ing bullpen blew his 2nd straight ****ing win. Dude has like a 1.5 era through 2 games and no wins. ****ing Kuo and Bellesario. Big Bad Brox came in and shut it down though.

Once Kershaw gains better control over that curveball watch the fuck out. He throws around 90-93, but he can fire it 97 if need be. lol

Angels' Guerrero to miss at least a month

From Sun news services
April 18, 2009
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has a torn pectoral muscle and will miss at least a month.

Manager Mike Scioscia said Guerrero would be reevaluated in a month but expressed optimism for his recovery and said he can heal without surgery.

Guerrero, an eight-time All-Star, is batting .250 with one home run and three RBIs.
