View Full Version : Other Sports What spectator sports do you enjoy watching?

DaFace

Spinoff of CanadianChief's thread about disliking baseball season. Simple question: What spectator sports do you enjoy watching?

(For the purposes of this poll, assume that "enjoy" means that you can, generally, watch an entire game without being bored with it.)

I could never watch golf or tennis on TV. Soccer is pretty boring as well, but it's not as bad as watching a bunch of fat old men walking around a golf course.

I don't mind it live. Back when I taught Sunday school, I used to go to some of my kids' soccer games at the Y. Maybe it was the kids and not the soccer.

Well, they can try to be athletes but the sport requires no athletic ability so it's really a moot point.

Yeah, I thought about trying to address all the permutations, but gave up trying to think of it all. Perhaps I will do another, simplified poll at some point that just says "which of these do you enjoy watching" and has all of the various options. I'd need help generating a good list though.

My personal list...

Football
Basketball
MMA
Baseball.

You need to seperate college and pro, IMO. I love college basketball, but don't care much about the NBA for example.

Also MMA's one of my favorites, but when it comes down to it, it's missing the "my team" factor that I get from the "ball sports". If that makes sense.

I have not been able to see a Live Hockey Game yet, but I will and soon. I watch the World Cup when the U.S. plays. I would consider watching Golf if it is a close one between Tiger and Random Guy. I sometimes watch the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500. I like Open Wheel, World Rally, and local dirt track more than Nascar. I watched wrestling and then Middle School was over so I stopped that. I would watch Tennis if the women would not wear as much. Boxing is not bad when there is a really big, good fight. I will watch horse racing when a triple crown is on the line, and would consider it in person. Bowling and Billiards are okay a few times a year. I will watch other sports during the Olympics, or when our country is in competition against a bunch of foreigners. I only voted for the few sports that I keep track of on a regular basis like baseball, basketball, and football, live and on the tele.

As for me, I'm pretty picky. I like NFL football of course, but I haven't ever really gotten into college ball. Baseball bores me to tears. Basketball I can watch, but pretty much just during March Madness. Hockey I enjoy. Soccer, I'm starting to enjoy (went to a Rapids game two weekends ago). Extreme sports are fun sometimes when they're on TV, but I don't make it a point to watch it.

I enjoy NFL, NCAAF, NCAAB, MLB, NBA and international soccer, but I only watch the first three with any regularity. I keep up with the Royals but I don't have a lot of time to watch all those games if they're not winning. I would definitely watch more NBA if KC got a team. I didn't mark NHL because I watch almost no hockey (although I did watch most of the Stanley Cup last year for some reason) but if KC got a team I'm sure I'd give it a fair shot.

NFL obviously.

Dont follow college fball too much outside of what goes on in Big12.

Baseball, though the only time I watch baseball on tv is the playoffs and beginning season til fantasy wears out

Sports i've watched in person and on television:

NFL Football
NCAA Football
NBA
NCAA Mens Basketball
NCAA Womens Basketball
MLB
NCAA Baseball
NCAA Volleyball
NHL
Junior League Hockey (18-21 year old kids, playing to try and earn a NCAA scholarship or minor league contract)

I've found it tough to get in to any sport that centers around an individual, such as golf, auto racing, boxing, etc. Also find it very difficult to watch any sport that is judged. It is a bit more difficult to get in to a sport when you don't have a local team to root for, too (NBA, NHL)

One of the few team sports that i've tried watching and just can't get in to is Soccer. It is just incredibly boring to me.

-NFL (Pretty sure EVERYONE here picked that one, hehe...)

-NHL (HUGE Pittsburgh Penguins fan. Playoff hockey is the pinnacle of sports.)

-NBA (I can't stand watching regular season games, but I'll tune in for a playoff game and have it on at least in the background while I'm doing something else.)

-Soccer (International) (If I'm browsing through the channels and I see an EPL game on, I'll definently tune in. If it's the World Cup, forget about it...I'm ALLL over that.)

IMO, bullriding, surfing, white water rafting, extreme kayaking, ski diving, etc... are extreme sports. NOT things like skateboarding. It's you against nature. You can practice all you want, but no bull, river, wave is going to be like the last. And if you get hurt you better be able to save your own ass. Because if you just lay waiting for help, you could end up dead.
