Philadelphia (PA) - Tyrone Spellman has been convicted of murdering his daughter, in an angry rage that was ignited because she knocked over his Xbox.

According to media reports, Spellman's daughter Alayiah pulled on the cords of the Xbox, causing the system to fall down and break. Spellman then struck his daughter so hard that he cracked her skull, said prosecutors. He may also have thrown her across the room, according to initial claims.

Spellman, who confessed to the crime within 24 hours, originally told the police that Alayiah fell out of her bed, and then tried to claim his confession was only out of protection for his wife. Spellman's wife was asleep during the incident.

The Department of Human Services had previously been tipped by an anonymous caller that Alayiah's parents were abusive, but they were previously unable to find any evidence.

Spellman was convicted of third-degree murder and child endangerment, and faces up to 47 years behind bars.

Maybe we can more than double the excise tax on the product. I'm sure people wouldn't mind. As long as we used the money to buy healthcare for children of abuse.

I dunno, this one time I was playing and some 12 year old would kick off and the fucking dude that kicked the ball would run down field and catch the damn ball while my dudes stood there like morons. Over and over and over again.

I could have easily hit that 12 year old with my truck.

So now I had to google the motherfucker.

An autopsy showed that Alayiah had suffered a broken arm about two weeks before she died -- an injury that city social workers did not see on two visits to the house.

Tyrone Spellman, 27, of Philadelphia, killed Alayiah Turman with at least five blows to the head, prosecutors said. The force of the blows cracked the toddler's skull several times.

A jury convicted Spellman of third-degree murder and child endangerment in January, and he was sentenced Thursday to the maximum 22 1/2 to 45 years in prison.

It's interesting how some minds work on these threads. Immediately, my heart goes out to that little girl who couldn't protect/defend herself. What a waste of a life. Then I think of what a pile of shit this dickweed is for doing something like that to a child.

However, then we have the posters that almost always make light of the situation, and I never quite get that. Oh, I understand that it's not anyone's child, friend or even a friend of a friend to anyone on this board. I get that. I've just got a really sensitive part in my heart for kids, especially little kids who get abused by adults, or lose their lives to some tragedy. I've never been able to de-sensitize myself from the story. Moreover, I never have understood how others can so effortlessly do so. Oh well, carry on.

I understand the difference, but throwing a small child against a wall hard enough to kill her, regardless of the reason, should by definition be in with the worst categorization of murder. This makes me sick.

In thinking about it, I was more intrigued by the weird angle than the death angle. You saw a child being killed and the tragedy therein, and I saw a moron committing a crime over an Xbox and the humor therein.

Plus, I admit that I do have a certain fascination with death. I'm so afraid of it that I have to joke about it.

If only you could walk a mile in my shoes...

The hours of thrills I had growing with my 360...watching myself grow from a lonely staff captain getting made fun of by 12 year old prepubescent teenage boys...to dominating the Ninja scene and becoming a 5 star general...being the leader of my clan...a Bungie superstar...

All that down the drain because of a little dust and a machine lacking a cover...was it overused? Perhaps...but there is simply no amount of words that can describe my significant loss...as this MeatyDragonMan (one of my live names) has signed off (for now).

(Keep in mind this is the same machine that helped me watch 159 episodes of '24'...without this machine Jack Bauer may not be a part of my life, and I'm convinced he's my real father, so...)

All I'm saying is...

If, before my 360 red lighted last week, someone gave me the choice between taking a human life or losing my xbox, I can tell you from my end that it would be the toughest decision I'd ever have to make...

Tougher than one of those hypothetical situations where you have the choice of killing your brother or your sister, and you have to choose or they both die...type scenarios. Or the ones where you are given an ultimatum like 'would you have sex with your mother for $1,000,000...even though I don't even consider that a tough decision because I'd do that in a second.

this is a thread about a little girl being murdered, and people come in and have to make jokes. it's okay to just read a thread once in a while without making an insensitive, complete failure of an attempt at humor.

Short Leash Hootie

Fine.

By that logic, why does a story like this need to ever be in print?

Shouldn't the family of the little girl be able to grieve without the entire world knowing she died over a friggin' Xbox?

A story so tragic that happened for such a dumb reason that is out there for everyone to read is going to end up becoming a mockery to those not directly involved 100 times out of 100.

Well Rain Man, my family is an odd family...

If I called my mom (my parents are divorced) randomly (I talk to each parent about once a month) and say..."Mom, 'sup yo!, did you read that story about that dude Tyrone who killed his daughter for breaking his Xbox?!" First she'd laugh, and then she'd tell me to never have children because something similar would probably happen (not to mention she'd feel terrible for the girl who actually dumb enough to let me plant my seed in the first place)...Now, if I called my Dad...he'd probably be shocked, saddened, and ask me to say a prayer for that family. Of course, he's the same guy who rolls down his window every time he sees a Barack Obama supporter holding some ridiculous sign and screams at them (and he's an adult)...

So to be honest, I think if I told my dad this was Tyrone's way of taking out his frustrating on the Obama administration, he'd totally agree and realize how important an Xbox really is.

You love pushing buttons don't you.

How is that pushing buttons?

I gave you a real life scenario and let you step in on my decision making process.

I'll be honest, I was hanging out with my 18 month old nephew a month ago or so...

and all I could think about was my next killing frenzy on Halo 3 and how it would happen?

Would it be via the snipe?! I'm an amazing sniper. If so, how many snipes would be no scopes? Would I get one ridiculous no scope that saves my life and continues the frenzy? Could the frenzy become a running riot? Rampage? How many grenade kills would I get? Would the frenzy involve a sniper spree? What about a sharpshooter? How many head shots?

By this point I had no idea where my nephew was...and my sister no longer allows me to hold that thing.
