Well, that sucked.

Today is a new day, time to walk it off and see if the team can overcome Hillman's bullpen decisions to even the series.

I assume that 7:11 start time is related to some silly promotion.

I believe my first game thread of the year has been a loser the last 3 years in a row, but I'm not certain.

Dr. Facebook Fever

He's to hoping Hillman and Farnsworth have a non-life-threatening head on collision into each other on the way to the park and neither can be there for the rest of the day/series/year.

And no I don't know why they would be driving separately or driving at all on a road trip.

It's always a good idea to have a night game in Chicago the first part of April, isn't it? No? Yeah, I didn't think.

It's already 51 degrees in Chicago and it's only 2 pm.

Greinke has historically sucked in Chicago (7.78 ERA, 0-6 record), but I think he has a good chance to pitch well tonight because of the frigid temperatures.

Based on the comments in the paper this morning - I'd say absolutely.

To say that Hillman is in a world of his own in probably an understatement.....

yes

Mr. Krab
04-08-2009, 02:48 PM
If yesterday was game 7 of the world series Meche would of come out for the 8th inning or Hillman would of gone straight to Soria. Since Hillman is managing for games in August he pulled Meche. The Royals suck too much for that, they need to put max effort to win each game possible and stop pretending that they can win like Boston or something. I don't expect Meche to throw 200 pitches but dammit if you have a chance to win your season opener if Meche throws 109 pitches, then you do it.

Codered
04-08-2009, 02:58 PM
Pulling Meche after 91 pitches is forgivable ... However I don't think anyone sat there saying Farnsworth in the 8th with a 2-1 lead was a good move when you have Cruz and Mahey in the pen. All that being said Meche, Cruz, Mahey, and Soria could have all blew the game too ... I just don't think Farnsworth should ever pitch the 8th unless we are getting blown out or up by a good margin ourselves!

alnorth
04-08-2009, 03:02 PM
Pulling Meche was probably the right call. Bringing in Farnsworth was highly questionable. Leaving him in to face Thome with 2 on was stupid.

Mr. Krab

Pulling Meche was not a bad call. Even if they had left him in I would not have had him face Thome. I would have gone to Mayhay or even Soria and left it at that.

question, I picked a catcher last in my fantasy league.....no one else was available so I picked up Miquel Olivo with my last pick.

anyone suspect him to have a decent season. I see in my league the Brandon Inge is also available and has a hot bat now. He is catcher eligible in my league and also 3B.

Who should i go with?

Johjima, Pudge, and Varitek are also available as well.

Meche said he still felt good. He was pitching well, dont fix whats not broken IMO. If he struggles, then put Soria in for an extra half inning or so.

Evidently not, they lost.

Yes, it was. NO ONE, from championship teams to cellar-dwellers, lets a pitcher go over 100 on their first game in a very cold early April day.

The wrong decision was going with Farnsworth and then not pulling him.

Of those options I would take either Pudge or Varitek. Pablo Sandoval may have C eligibility in some leagues, if not yet, he will get it at some point this season as the Giants backup C. Sandoval will hit over .300 and has a little pop in his bat.

Personally I would not have had Meche face Thome cause he had already looked at him 3 times. I really would rather have had Mayhay out there for Thome for the lefty vs. lefty match up.

Well regardless of how many at bats Thome has against Meche, Thome knows what he's dealing with. He's faced Meche many times before, probably nothing new. But Lf v Lf are better odds. Either way I wouldve been ok with Mahay. However I've been livid pissed at the Farnsworthless signing ever since it happened. The guy has proven he doesn't belong in the major leagues.

I have to listen to the Sox announcers...I've always liked them though, and they've said some great things about Dayton Moore, Greinke and the Royals.

Steve Stone knows his baseball, I remember when he was the Cubs guy...wow. That guy is one of the smartest baseball people I've ever listened to. One game, before the game started, he was talking about Moises Alou and how Moises was in the zone and that, without a doubt, he'd hit a homerun today...sure enough, first at bat, Moises unleashes on the ball and drives it out to Sheffield Avenue.
