Seriously.

WASHINGTON (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=WASHINGTON&sid=breitbart.com) (AP) - The president's new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth's air.
John Holdren (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=John+Holdren&sid=breitbart.com) told The Associated Press (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=The+Associated+Press&sid=breitbart.com) in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun's rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

"We don't have the luxury of taking any approach off the table."

Holdren outlined several "tipping points" involving global warming that could be fast approaching. Once such milestones are reached, such as complete loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=Arctic&sid=breitbart.com) it increases chances of "really intolerable consequences," he said.

Twice in a half-hour interview, Holdren compared global warming to being "in a car with bad brakes driving toward a cliff in the fog."
At first, Holdren characterized the potential need to technologically tinker with the climate as just his personal view. However, he went on to say he has raised it in administration discussions.

Holdren, a 65-year-old physicist, is far from alone in taking geoengineering more seriously. The National Academy (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=National+Academy&sid=breitbart.com) of Science is making climate tinkering the subject of its first workshop in its new multidiscipline climate challenges program. The British parliament has also discussed the idea.

The American Meteorological Society (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=American+Meteorological+Society&sid=breitbart.com) is crafting a policy statement on geoengineering that says "it is prudent to consider geoengineering's potential, to understand its limits and to avoid rash deployment."
Last week, Princeton scientist Robert Socolow (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=Robert+Socolow&sid=breitbart.com) told the National Academy that geoengineering should be an available option in case climate worsens dramatically.

But Holdren noted that shooting particles into the air—making an artificial volcano as one Nobel laureate has suggested—could have grave side effects and would not completely solve all the problems from soaring greenhouse gas emissions. So such actions could not be taken lightly, he said.

Still, "we might get desperate enough to want to use it," he added.
Another geoengineering option he mentioned was the use of so-called artificial trees to suck carbon dioxide (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=carbon+dioxide&sid=breitbart.com)—the chief human-caused greenhouse gas—out of the air and store it. At first that seemed prohibitively expensive, but a re-examination of the approach shows it might be less costly, he said.

The situation is dire, the earth is too hot. It's so hot it snowed in Atlanta yesterday. LMAO

That would be kind of like saying the economy is on track because the Dow went up 47 points today.

Just in case we are not screwing this planet up enough, we will try to fix our mistakes by using things that have consequences we haven't even dreamed of. Sounds like a human approach, that's for sure.

Or like curing pollution by polluting more? Or blaming pollution for the problem then using it as the solution?

This was about curing pollution? I thought it was about preventing the effects of global warming. It also said something about last resort I believe?

I just thought suggesting one data point from city on one day as evidence to the contrary was similar to the economic analogy.

What does the Obama admin present as the reason for global warming? What about the guy who invented the Internet, what does he say causes global warming?

If the Dow had been going up since 2003, that would be a good analogy.

Why should I care about extreme, last-possible-option ideas?

Where does committing trillions of dollars in spending rank in terms of the list of options? Restraint isn't looking like one of his strong points at the moment.

With the global warming scam just being a huge money grab, why are they looking into this? Perhaps they want to threaten this so that people are okay with paying for smaller less retarded action?

Yes, there's plenty of F'n rich people who don't deserve what they've stolen from the working class.

Still clinging to that desperate notion that I'm a blind homer who sees no wrong with Obama.

No, I was teasing you. Hence the dumb smiley.

But I do think if Bush was in office and news leaked of some last option idea he had it would bother you a lot more.

Do people here honestly believe that shooting pollution into the atmosphere to protect us from the effect of pollution even makes a shred of sense? Maybe I'm the naive one here....?
