No one can guarantee him a SB ring.

But to say that ATL won't come close is once again foolish, considering they were closer LAST year than 20 other teams.

You have to MAKE the playoffs to win the SB, last I checked.Herm? Carl? Is that you?:D

Other than we have a coach and GM who come from teams that stress the WRs as weapons and the TE's as blockers...

It's a deep WR draft on top of that. This is probably dirty to Chiefs fans but you're better off with your weapons being outside and your TE just being a complimentary piece.

I would like to have good WR's we just have never had 2 good ones at the same time. Alot of that probably has to do with the fact they considered Tony better than most WR's out there so they tried to fill the WR with complimentary players.

Also I would probably be for this trade if Tony was coming off a shitty season but he had one of his best seasons ever and still plays at an HOF level.

a 2nd and Jerious Norwood will do the trick.

Norwood and Jamaal Charles are the same player, you dumb sonofabitch.

The Chiefs might actually strongly consider this deal..they dont have their 2nd round pick and Haleys offense isnt real big on the TE position..I dont see him leaving KC tho

So you think he should be satisfied with the way the team around him has performed over his career? Just sit quietly and pretend 0 playoff wins is befitting of his ambition and talent?

BTW, I realise well that Pioli "has the right". And that a 2nd round pick could be a much more valuable asset than an aging TE (but the odds are very debatable). But Tony is not the problem with the Chiefs.

1. Should he stay quiet? Yes. He needs to respect the chain of command and keep his mouth shut. The inmates should not be able to run the asylum.

2. Tony is not the problem with the Chiefs? Um... yes he is. He represents everything that is wrong with this franchise. 0-3 in playoff situations. Prima donna attitude. This sense of immortality. Player loyalty. We have won jack shit with Tony. He is old culture. The only way to change the culture of a franchise is to get rid of the losers of the previous culture.

If the Colts can let Marvin Harrison go, then the Chiefs can sure as hell get rid of Tony.

For those saying TG doesn't fit Haley's offensive scheme...His scheme is built around his players, and will feature whatever talent he has. If its two WR's like Bolden and Fitzgerald, then Haley will scheme with that in mind. If your talent lies within Bowe and TG, then you can BET Haley will be scheming around them.

To say that Gonzalez should be traded for a lousy late second round pick because "Haley's offense doesn't use the TE" is ridiculous. If that were true, he should be fired right now. Haley WILL USE GONZALEZ...PERIOD.

If we can get a 2nd for Tony... bye bye. A 2nd rd pick for a guy who is going to play another year or two TOPS... for me its a no brainer.

I have a hard on for Cottam and think we has the tools to be the kind of player that can change a game like Tony did for us.

6'8 271... AND can catch AND a 4.6 40?!?!?! Yeesh. He learns how to use that big body to block as well and we are set for the next decade.

Cottam is injury prone & he runs so upright, I'll be shocked if he makes it through one season without missing games let alone 10 years.

That'a bit much, and not exactly the most factual statement I've ever read. I don't have any problem trading him, but 55 just seems like a very weak deal.

Now, if someone were to produce a list of players taken between 52 and 57 in the last 10 years and the overall output was good, I might warm up to the deal.

English please.

He is a 34 year old play maker at the end of his career.

I would take the 2nd in a heart beat. From there we at least have a shot at filling major gaps with players like:

"ZIGGY" HOOD, DE, MISSOURI
DUKE ROBINSON, OL, OKLAHOMA
JAMON MEREDITH, OT, SOUTH CAROLINA
DERRICK WILLIAMS, WR/KR, PENN ST.

Cottam will be just fine at TE as our starter.

TG would have an overwhelmingly better chance at winning a SB in ATL in the next 2 years over staying in KC.

To argue otherwise is flat-out ridiculous.

I noticed the only O-lineman they selected in the second is a pro bowler. You have to think if we trade back into the second that's going to be the pick since o-line is the strength of this draft.

History could bode well for us here. But I can't see TG in anything but that Red and Gold.

I've heard Dwaye Bowe talk about how he's learned from TG and TG's work ethic. I'm pretty sure some of the other young receivers have mentioned it also. Of course, his mini soap opera with the trade issue hasn't helped his cause.

He's missed what...1 game in his entire career?

Leaves it all the field every Sunday...

How is that not being a team leader?

You ever see him bitching at coaches on the sideline? Or teammates?

Some of you are just quick to point out anything about Tony Gonzalez that paints him in a negative light because he's so skilled at his craft and it makes the mecca's of the world (who live in their parents' basement) very jealous and insecure.

I think there is merit in leading by example, and Gonzo's practice habits are supposed to be outstanding. And I know I've heard reports of him being pissed because Bowe doesn't follow his lead.

Just saying. There's more than one model for how to be a leader, and I do think that Gonzo brings some leadership qualities to the team.

But, again, there's only so much of a leader that I believe a TE or a G can be. Ideally, leadership will stem from the most important positions. But...

Hootie likes to be a braggart when discussing these romps or stories of dipshittery, but when he's really pressed on it, (like someone mentioning googling Em-Dawg), his e-sac shrinks like he's teabagging a snowman.

How do you figure?

Every story or post I've made regarding my personal life on this website is TRUE.

I'd rather people not google my friends/ex-girlfriends/family members...sure. That makes sense, don't you think?

But I guess with all of the people I rub the wrong way with these stories (not sure why anyone cares THAT much), one of you dipshits will go out of your way to turn it into something personal just so you can all high five and get your jollies off.

The problem is, there is really only one angle anyone can attack which would upset me...and it's not somehow finding Em-dawg and linking her to these threads via facebook. She'd A) expect it from me and B) shrug it off...can't do anything about the truth.

* Cottam will replace TonyG as THE tight end in KC
* If offered, we should take that 2nd from ATL

This thing about Cottam being injury prone... again, I honestly have tried to wipe out last season from my memory. I know he broke his wrist in college but I don't recall him missing any games as a pro.

Getting his wrist broken does not equal being injury prone.

Ok...

I don't know how to explain this.

Perhaps I tripped over my words in that thread.

I don't want her to see that thread...but if it came down to it, the next time I see her, if it really bothered you all THAT much...I'd show her the damn thread and I guarantee all she would do is laugh. That's how she is.

We're just not on those terms anymore...we don't AIM, we don't text, we don't call each other, we're not buddy/buddy...

The story was funny because I hadn't talked to her in two months...before the night I told my friend my goal for the night was to have sex with her.

The cool thing is...not a single post in that thread is fabricated, made up, or untrue. So no matter how far anyone wanted to dig (which seems ridiculous to me, because unlike midnight_vulture, I did nothing malicious to any member on this site...I didn't lie...all I did was tell a story, that in all reality, did nothing but depict me as an asshole idiot who sucks at life) nothing could happen. It wouldn't effect me in any way...my friends all know the story and think it is hilarious...Emily might find me creepy for posting about her on ChiefsPlanet...but what's the worst thing that can happen? We don't hook up once every three months anymore? Big loss for me! I don't know about you guys, but really intoxicated, unattached, drunk sex with a girl you really don't have any respect for (anymore) really isn't that exciting, and is really nothing more than a 'haha that girl still likes me' kind of thing.

Getting his wrist broken does not equal being injury prone.Cottam will be perfectly fine in a system that doesn't require him to catch for 1,000+ and 10 TD's a year. He's had Tony to mentor him a bit, so maybe he's got a good work ethic..I'm not concerned about filling the TE position, as we'll hopefully nullify it as an essential part of the offensive threat.

The only reason I don't see Bowe as a #1 is his aparent lack of breakaway speed. However, that may just be the way they utilized him in the routes he ran. Strengths:
Ideal height and bulk with long arms...Excellent route runner...Has big, strong, reliable hands...Plucks the ball out of the air and can make the difficult catch...Great body control and ball skills...Aggressive and is a decent leaper...Good balance and agility...Tough, strong and physical...Will work the middle of the field...Able to do some damage after the catch...Nice instincts and awareness...Team player with solid intangibles...Extremely competitive...Experienced...Very productive.

Weaknesses:
Just average speed and quickness...Is not very explosive and lacks a burst...Doesn't get a lot of separation...Probably won't be much of a vertical threat...Not very elusive and lacks wiggle...Motor runs hot and cold...Must work harder as a blocker...Might be a little too cocky.

Notes:
Was a three-year starter in the ACC...Never lost a single game in high school...Named 1st Team All-ACC in 2007 and 2008...Holds 14 Tar Heel records including career receptions, career receiving yards and career touchdowns...Wrapped up his college career with an amazing performance in the Meineke Car Care Bowl where he caught 8 balls for 217 yards and 3 touchdowns...Missed one game with an ankle sprain in 2006 but otherwise was pretty healthy...The best of the three Tar Heel wideouts that will be drafted this year...Is not the most physically gifted prospect in the world but he makes up for it by doing all of the little things...Profiles as a prototypical possession receiver in the NFL.

When I read these I always wonder, especially at the WR position what's wrong with being cocky?

A second round pick...for a guy that can't do any more for this franchise than he already has? A guy that has, at most, three more years at a position that is usually considered a pass catching offensive tackle safety valve at best? A guy that can be re-signed for league minimum to come back to the organization to get his number retired whenever he chooses to do so?

That sounds effing retarded. We should hold out for their first round pick!

Report: Falcons Still Want Gonzalez

Posted by Mike Florio on April 13, 2009, 10:10 a.m. EDT

Though it remains to be seen whether tight end Tony Gonzalez wants out of Kansas City, one team that tried to get him in 2008 reportedly still wants him.

Michael Lombardi of NFP reports that the Falcons are “seriously interested” in trading for the veteran Pro Bowler, and might be willing to give up their second-round pick in the draft (55th overall) to make it happen.

We see several issues with this one:

1. Do the Chiefs want to trade Gonzalez at all? For now, the answer isn’t clear.

2. Does Gonzalez want out? Again, unclear.

3. If Gonzalez wants out, would he be willing to play for the Falcons? One thing we know is that Gonzalez wanted no part of the Falcons during the 2008 season, when the Falcons made a play for acquiring his services. So has Gonzalez’s position changed?

4. With two former New England colleagues calling the shots in Kansas City and Atlanta, would this be an impediment to getting a deal done, or would it help? Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli was able to strike a deal with Pats coach Bill Belichick for quarterback Matt Cassel, but the second-round pick the Chiefs gave up for Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel prompted suspicion that Belichick handed Pioli a sweetheart deal. So would Pioli and/or former Pats director of college scouting Thomas Dimitroff be leery of the aftermath of a trade for Gonzalez, and would they feel the need to drive a harder bargain in order to avoid being criticized?

We’re not saying the trade can’t happen. But several hurdles would have to be overcome in order to make it so.

Especially when with this position it seems to be the majority.

I've always thought Bowe had really good hands, or am I mistaken??? I know at the very least he has made some amazing TD catches that not many guys could make.

He makes the jaw-dropping catch 100% of the time.

And then he drops a softball that hits him in the numbers.

He's a walking paradox.

Didn't he drop a potential game winning td pass in the first game against the Pats. I didn't see it, but isn't he the one that bobbled an onside kick in the Charger game last year that lead to San Diego winning the game? Granted he wasn't the only receiver to drop a ball that would sealed the win for KC in that game. That is two games where, if he would have caught the ball, the Chiefs would have won the game. He's a good receiver but he does have the case of the dropsies from time to time.

Do you think there is a possibility that the Falcons try to trade for a pass catching tight end like Tony Gonzalez instead of picking Brandon Pettigrew? The Falcons need to pick defense with their first pick don't you agree? Vic

Carucci, Senior Writer, NFL.com

I think it's possible. My sense is that Gonzalez does not feel all that comfortable with the new regime in KC. And when you think about the offense from which new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli came in New England, the tight end simply didn't have that big of a pass-catching role. Gonzalez certainly knows that and wants to be on a team where is going to at least be among the top pass-catchers.

Hearing the people talk about needing to do that trade now made me wonder if he doesn't hold a higher value to teams that are close than we think an old TE has.

If you thought he was the missing piece to your offense to be Super Bowl caliber, maybe you overpay to get him?

To me a 2nd rounder for a 33 year old TE, even for the best one to ever play, seems like too high a price.

Yea lets not factor in that Peterson was still here and he in no way was gonna let his boy go to replace him with legit WR's. Tony Gonzalez was the weapon in Vermiels passing game because we never even made an attempt to even get adequate WR's.

How to build a champion

Pats showed the way; can Parcells, rest of NFL follow?

NEW YORK -- Once upon a time, way back in 2000, New England owner Bob Kraft swam against the tide and hired a 47-year-old coach, Bill Belichick, who brought along a trusted friend with a knack for picking players, Scott Pioli, 34, to run the personnel side of the team.

Pioli would scout and prepare the free-agent and draft lists with his staff, and do contracts, while Belichick would coach and pick the players ... with the financial and moral support of Kraft.

The Patriots were $10 million over the cap then, and their top-rated free agent at an important position was a terrific young tackle, Jon Runyan. Nope, Belichick said; we're not going to further screw up our bloated cap by signing the richest tackle in football. So the Patriots bit the bullet in 2000 and 2001, trying to get better through the draft (Tom Brady came in 2000, Richard Seymour and Matt Light in '01).

Then they took a very interesting gamble in 2001. One of their best young defensive players, tackle Chad Eaton, was a free agent, and the Pats let him go seek his fortune. Eaton signed with Seattle for a bonus of $3.5 million. The Patriots signed 20 mid- to low-roster veteran free agents for $2.57 million in signing bonuses that spring.

Of course, the Patriots won the Super Bowl that season, with 16 of those free agents playing in an upset win over St. Louis. Mike Vrabel, Antowain Smith, Roman Phifer and Larry Izzo were among them. In the spring of 2002, New England was the only defending Super Bowl champion in the first nine years of free agency to enter the next season under the salary cap.

After that 2002 Super Bowl game, I told Belichick at the Patriots' team party, "You've just given a blueprint to every team in the NFL -- draft well, find a quarterback and fill in all the cracks through middle- and lower-class free-agency.''

"I know,'' he said.

Six years later, teams still don't follow the blueprint. I don't get it.

Certainly bring a great offensive weapon for the Falcons. Gonzo just seems to keep going and going like the ever ready battery.

He hinted at being traded a time or two. He has had great years with the Chiefs. And he won't get a ring with the Chiefs organization it appears.

With Tony G, you know what your getting.... the best tight end in modern day history.

With a second round draft pick you are taking a 50/50 chance of a bust. I would imagine the odds of the draft pick putting out an even significant stat figure comparible to Tony G would be a reach. Tony G for a second rounder isn't too much in my book.

So:

There's a 50/50 chance that a 2nd round pick will be here and productive during a Super Bowl run 3-4 years from now.

There's a ZERO percent chance that TG would be part of that run.

You get the chance to pick a player that could be a cornerstone for the next 10 years, versus getting nothing when he retires in 2010.

This isn't that difficult a choice, IMO.

I can't believe how many posters here are lusting for that 2nd round pick! Once again, the second round covers picks 33 to 64. 55 is way nearer 64 than 33. Hell it's almost a 3rd rounder! There's 210 point differential between our old 2nd and 55. That means if we were to at least reasonably replace that value we should ask for Atlanta's 3rd (155 points +/-) as well. The point is if we let TG go for 55 we are FAR FROM "GETTING OUR 2ND BACK"!!!! I am open to trading TG for a good price. But I'm also in the camp that believes TG has not shown any signs of slowing down and has a good 4 more years in him. 55 is too low.

FWIW:

According to this Pioli has REJECTED the 55 offer.

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/4/13/834400/chiefs-reject-falcons-offer-for

Frank Boal of FOX4 in Kansas City is reporting the Kansas City Chiefs have rejected a trade offer from the Atlanta Falcons for tight end Tony Gonzalez. The offer was for the Falcons' 55th overall pick according to Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post.

*Boal rarely breaks news about the Chiefs and the rest of the mainstream media hasn't picked up on this yet so we're certainly going to continue following this story until we can get another confirmation.

Rumors have been swirling that the Chiefs were nearing a deal with someone to move Gonzalez. The basis of some of these rumors? Gonzalez cleaning out his locker.

We'll never know if the future Hall of Fame tight end was simply cleaning out his locker before the start of the Chiefs first veteran mandatory mini-camp on April 17th or if he removed his belongings with the intention that he wouldn't be back.

If the GM Scott Pioli values Gonzalez more than the Falcons' second round pick then it's unlikely any team in the NFL will match his price. The overlord of the previous Chiefs regime, Carl Peterson, reportedly pushed his asking price from a third to a second and fifth round pick at the trading deadline last year.

We can debate about Gonzalez's worth all day long but he's worth whatever any team will offer him. If the offers that came in last season (Eagles' 3rd, Giants' 6th) are any indication, Tony Gonzalez will not be traded by the Chiefs this season.

That is the way it works in the NFL it happens every year. You think the Saints are going to go 8-8 this year?

And if you think it is retarded go talk to Vegas they made the odds not me.

You really think odds are an indicator of anything? That's ridiculous.

The Saints did. Albeit their QB was a vet. Anything is possible.

The Falcons are better than the Saints.

At any rate, saying the Falcons are no closer than the Chiefs to making it to the Super Bowl is incredibly dumb. Regardless of what Vegas odds in April are.

You said they "don't have much of a shot to win the Super Bowl this year". That's nonsense. They're going to be the favorite to win their division. Save the Vegas odds, they don't mean anything.

Pioli likes vets. He's spent this offseason loading up on Pro-Bowl vets. Why do people seem to think that he's ready to part ways with the best vet we have on the offensive side of the ball?

It makes no sense. Pioli probably wants to give his team, errr, i mean his QB the best chance to win. He'll trade TG when he's ready. And i don't think it'll be this season.

You want to make a friendly wager they don't win the SB?

New Orleans was favored last year to win their division see how far that got them?

I don't get the sense that Gonzo wants to leave because he'd like to play for once for a possible division winner.

I don't think he is going anywhere.

Clark said after the Owners meetings that they weren't trading him.

Pioli was asked yesterday if they were looking to move any veteran players at the draft and he said "NO". The room went quiet for a few seconds. Next question.

I know, I know, draft talk to beef up any players value.

But, I believe them on TG anyways.

If it were Herm I would say he would trade him for young buck anyday. But these guys are bringing in vets to compete and play to help us win now. Getting rid of a awesome target like Gonzalez for Cassel does not help us win now.

The comment below is from a chat with Bill Williamson from espn.com. He has a afc west blog and chats afc west every thursday.

Jon (KC): If you're Scott Pioli and you're offered a 2nd rd pick for Gonzalez (as rumored). Do you make the trade? (bare in mind KC has their heir apparent Brad Cottam)

Bill Williamson: If I was running the show in Kansas City, I'd do what I could to make Gonzalez happy and to make him want to play in Kansas City as long as he could. The guy is special. He should never wear another NFL uniform.

So, because some writer who has about as much inside info as you or I thinks that the Chiefs shouldn't trade him, it is a given in your mind that he won't be traded.

And you call us "Brainless"?

If we can get the Center and RG/RT spots fixed, our offense could be really damn good. I read somewhere that Goff could play center or RG for us. I think if he plays RG he will help out the center a lot in covering his blocking assignments and by keeping his own man blocked. I think since we are going to be a team that passes more often we definately need to kill McIntosh for dignity's sake, and then find a stud to cover that role.

I guess what I am hoping is that our O can school people weekly, and our D can pull off just enough stops to help our O win the game... similar to the Colts from years past-- would be great if our D showed up on the playoffs too... ala Cards from last year and the Colts from a few years back.

edit: found the Goff thing here (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/25/chiefs-add-mike-goff/)... not sure how credible.

Uh, the correct term is "Chiefs Planet Kool-Aid Brain Trust".
And if you're sporting your own "witty" little "Drinking the Kool-Aid / In Pioli/These Three I Trust" sig, and If you think Sanchez sucks, Curry is Jesus, and the "rockin" duo of Cassel/Thigpen is a better idea than Cassel/Sanchez;

For the record.....I have never said I wanted Curry, In fact I have posted I believe 3 times in the past 2 weeks I think we trade down or pick Raji.

I have never said Sanchez sucks. I have just been a Cassel Supporter.

Yes,I Do think that Cassel/Thigpen would be a better way to build this team than spending our first 2 picks of the '09 draft on 2 QB's.

Yes, I do support Clark,Scott and Todd.

So, 2 out of 4.

Maybe YOU better do a little more reading next time before you post.

Alright, I guess I'm just blind or something, but I've looked all over in the FAQ & the User CP and there arent ANY options for uploading or downloading an avatar from my computer. It's either "no avatar" or an avatar that the site offers which is gay. Any suggestions anyone? I don't know if this has been discussed or not. On NFL Network tonight(4/21) they said two teams were very interested in Tony G. The Falcons and the Eagles and it would take a 2nd. I had not heard of the Eagles being all that interested, or if they have much left to trade.
