Was he known as the Bird or Bird Man?

For some reason thats what popped in my head when I saw his name.

yeah, The Bird.

I was just watching him pitch a complete game against the Yankees on MLB Network on Sunday. Weird.

"Mark was reported to have died on April 13th, 2009 in a under a pickup truck on his farm in Northborough Massachusetts."

I saw him pitch against the Royals one time. But that was back when the Royals could win.

A true original in baseball. The wild blond hair and talking to the baseball behind the mound. Won 19 games his rookie year...won Rookie Of The Year, 2nd for Cy Young and 11th for MVP. Never won more than six games in a season after that.

For you Royals fans that is the year that Brett and McRae finished 2nd and 4th for AL MVP.

In the grand scheme of things, his legacy was probably brightest because his career was so short. His oddities would have hacked people off if he did the same kooky things year after year. I loved watching him though. I love guys that have fun out there and love to play.
