Yeah great show. Had 4th row tickets. He's one funny dude in person. Made you think and then a little twist at the end for the joke,

Bush-b-gone household spray to get the stupid out of your furniture. ROFL

Obama has quoted Voltaire, Bush thinks Voltaire is a charector in a Harry Potter movie. ROFL

Those phelps church members are nuts. 5-6 year old kid holding up a sign saying bitch burger? Whats up with that?

We are just a bunch of pillowbiter enablers?

Surprisingly, Towards the end he gave a lecture to the liberals about not feeling better, that America is better than the Middle eastern countries. He said we are a better people, we are a better system. Free Speech.Better. Equal rights. Better. Freedom of movement.Better. Justice system Better. etc.

Mahr says he sometimes has people walk out towards the end when he starts talking religion and sure enough this reaaky cute woman got up to leave and he said from the stage see what I mean,,,but she was just going to the bathroom and yelled it at him but he didn't hear it.

The midland is a really cool old building to go see shows, I've seen the ABDC jabberwockey etc, Jerry Seinfeld and now Mahr there. Defintly a KC keeper.

Somehow our Student Union at Truman had quite an eye for talent, way up in Kirksville, and my first two years 89/90 and 90/91, we got Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock for free [I mean, free for the student, not no payment for the act] before they got big. Third year was George Wallace, who was already as big as he was gonna get, but still a quality show. Final act was Buzz Sutherland, a St. Louis local with not much of a national/worldwide rep, but he may have induced the most laughter of them all.

I went last night and had a great time. Maher was funny as usual though I found his bits about religion and sex the best.

I took some pictures of the protestors and I told my girl that if I find out they are from Westboro she was going to have bail me out. I never did find out either way and they were gone by the time the show was over.

Anyway my phone camera sucks but here is some pics of those douchebags.

the short answer is this: This evil doomed cursed rebellious disobedient nation eats its children today figuratively in many ways, and will literally eat its babies in the near future. The fact of this matter is well captured in the punchy signs-of-truth about which you wrote. And here is the text of a paper we wrote to explain the concepts in more detail:

ALL THE WAYS THE CITIZENS OF DOOMED AMERCA DO AND FURTHER WILL
EAT THEIR CHILDREN

a/k/a/ THIS NATION IS ABOUT TO DINE ON SOME

Bitch Burgers
Obama Fries
both these dripping with your bloody catsup
And Slut Shakes
All going to make up your Stem Cell Supper!

Hmm... Obama knows Voltaire, but Bush didn't? That's important in a financial crisis. How many jokes did he tell about how much Obama knew about Jesse Livermore? Huh? Where are the questions about that? It's easy to snipe, it's much more difficult to make jokes about the nuances of real money matters. Then again, I wouldn't expect smart economic people to pay for a show that's irrelevant. How much were people suckered into paying for a ticket to dumbassery? $30? Money well spent if you're dumb.

Maher is accomplished as a standup, even when I disagree strongly with his position he's steady making me laugh as he lays out his argument, which is kind of the point of comedy.

Yes he is. Understanding economics seems to be a conundrum that gets in the way for him. Funny is funny, but standing in front of people stating economic fact he regurgitates from whomever is another.

Oh, it's not just economics, I still bristle at a bit he had about how he hated Seinfeld because there was never any consequences for the shit they pulled, when the central theme of Seinfeld was that all the shit they pulled came back to bite them in the ass, FFS the finale was about everything shitty they ever did coming back on them at the same time. He seemed to be confusing the fact that the characters were unfazed by kharma with a lack of kharmic retribution.

Still it was a funny bit.

Maher speaks about things he doesn't understand and I don't understand why it carries any weight... to anyone. Maher and Stewart garner attention for things that really confuse me. Is it that the masses really don't get it? I wish I knew.

he actually thanked his audience for buying a ticket to see him in these times. it was quality entertainment. i paid 60 a ticket and would pay 100 today to see him again.
as far as talking about what he doesnt understand, hes well versed on religion and its histories, unlike the majority of people who actually practice it. i loved religilous, even my rightwing christian buddy enjoyed it,which really surprised me. maybe you just have a hard time understanding things, you RETART!

Bill Maher may be a dick, but he’s no pussy – which sounds like something he might say. For certain, the irreverent stand-up comic, blunt liberal pundit and sardonic host of HBO’s politics-meets-comedy talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” mixed punch lines with tough talk and took no prisoners Friday at the Midland by AMC.

Maher’s fans filled most of the seats at the handsomely refurbished downtown theater, and were obviously intent on cheering their smartass champion of All Things Left of Center. By that measure, Maher did not disappoint.

A brief overview of topics covered in the party atmosphere: Sex and drugs are good. God and religion are a lie. President George W. Bushwas an idiot. President Barack Obama is cool. Democrats are reflective. Republicans are rednecks.

Spot a theme here?
Prior to the show, a group of anti-gay protestors on the street aimed their rants at Maher’s fans entering the theater.
In response, Maher opened his performance with the applause-garnering line: “Welcome to my satanic show!” He added that he was happy to be “enabling homosexuality,” and later said that the recent legislation allowing same-sex marriage in Iowa was a “victory for Joe Fudgepack.”

“So take that, you satanic protestors!” Maher roared. “That’s right, Mr. Evil will take credit for that! “

Maher threw back his head, laughed like a super-villain and gleefully sang how he was “still evil after all these years” to the tune of Paul Simon’s “Still Crazy After All These Years.”

Maher also said that he was flattered that people would pay to see him during a recession.

“I better be fucking good tonight,” he said.

<!--more-->For nearly two hours, Maher demonstrated his adeptness at stand-up. Decades of experience in front of audiences have taught him how to get laughs and keep them coming.

Still, he’s more of a comedic conversationalist than a pay-dirt gut-buster. Anyone in search of real belly laughs still would have been looking by the end of Maher’s show. Perhaps the highest compliment to be paid to Maher is that he’s like Mort Sahl with a dirty mouth – or Will Rogers with a really dirty mouth.

The appreciation showered on Maher at the Midland included repeated shouts of approval from a particularly enthused female audience member.

“She can’t help herself,” Maher told the crowd. “She’s only flesh and vagina.”

While that confrontational zinger may have occurred to Maher on the fly, he came prepared with a host of other one-liners.

On the bad economy: “How many miss the days when we were just morally bankrupt?”

On what to do with money instead of putting it in a bank: “Spend it on cocaine. At least you’ll get high.”

On jailed fortune-absconder Bernie Madoff: “That was the worst pyramid scheme from the Jews since the pyramids.”

On Fox News: “Jesus hung out with lepers and hookers. I think he would have drawn the line at Glenn Beck.”

On Bush’s reaction to Obama quoting French Enlightenment author Voltaire: “George Bush thinks Voltaire is a Harry Potter character.”

On Republicans who supported Sarah Palin for vice president: “They wanted to fuck her. She gave them such a hard on. To them she was a MILF. Me, too – a Moron I’d Like to Forget.”

On Republican opposition to universal health care: “They don’t care about health. They care about money. And, like that hospital gown your wearing, you’re ass isn’t covered.”

On greed in America: “That is the root of our problem. We are the greediest country. There is no end of stupid, fucked-up shit that rich people will spend their money on… . Sorry, Joe the Plumber. That’s not wealth trickling down on you. That’s urine.”

On the government’s bailout of the auto industry: “How much can it cost to not sell cars?”

On prostitutes: “I feel sorry for whores, because what can a whore wear anymore that separates her out from just chicks going to nightclubs?”

On the roving male libido: “Men want new sex, just like women want new shoes… . Wives hate me. They don’t want to hear this shit.

I’m like the escaped slave. I bring news of freedom.”

On the typical married man: “You pathetic, pussy-whipped piece of shit.”

On the Pope: “Condoms are a lot more infallible than the Pope.”

On Christianity: “Twenty-five percent of Americans believe that Jesus will come back in their lifetime. That’s right, before ‘Ugly Betty’ gets cancelled.”

Maher denied the charge leveled by some conservative critics that he hates America. To the contrary, he said, he’s a patriot – but just not a showoff about it.

“I have a harder dick for the country than you do!” Maher bellowed, imitating a Republican in patriotic heat. “Do you fuck the flag? I fuck the flag every night! I fuck the flag!”

That bit of sexualized political parody produced audible gasps as well as laughter from the crowd.

But Maher appeared to get the most worked up over the subject of religion, which he compared to “comic-book nonsense.”

“I’ll take my chances in hell,” he said. “At least they have drugs down there.”

He mocked miraculous elements of the Biblical account of Jesus, which was welcomed with much laughter. He also had fun deriding the beliefs of Mormons and Scientologists.

“Look, I’ve been high more than most people,” Maher said. “I’ve been very high. But I never thought up this shit!”

The crowd cheered.

“I hope I haven’t offended anyone,” he said

Really?

i remember back before he hit it big, when he was a reasonable libertarian voice. I actually liked him when his show was first on comedy central in the mid 90s or so.

of course there's a lot of money to be made standing in front of liberals telling them everyone who disagrees with them is stupid. if you can find a job doing that, you can more or less just print money.
