The first Saturday in May approaches. The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.

Who will be watching the Kentucky Derby this Saturday? And the Oaks tomorrow (Friday). Hopefully we'll have a good weekend for the racing industry.

My Derby Picks:

Desert Party *BEST BET* Probable odds of 12/1 to 14/1
positives
Top two-year-old last year before shipping back to Dubai for the winter. Training very well at Churchill Downs. Watched him school in the paddock yesterday at Churchill and he was perfect. Great mind to handle the frenzy of Derby Day. Fantastic looking animal who should stay the distance.
negatives
Whether horses can ship back from wintering in Dubai and win the Kentucky Derby is a big question for most people.....it doesn't worry me. He couldn't look any better and he's well seasoned.

I Want Revenge Probable odds of 3/1 to 4/1
positives
Deserving favourite. Had raced on synthetic surfaces in California, but improved markedly when switched to traditional dirt surfaces in NY where he registered 2 easy wins. Probably the most likely winner. Ridden by teenage sensation Joe Talamo.
negatives
Owned by the bums at IEAH Stables (also owned last year's winner Big Brown). Previously beaten twice by Pioneerof The Nile who reopposes in the Derby.

Friesan Fire
positivesGreat form in his recent races. Superb win in the Louisiana Derby. Very consistent performer.
negatives
There are questions about the calibre of the opposition he has beaten. He breezed very fast early this week and didn't appear to gallop out well (looked tired). Hasn't raced in 7 weeks.

Any other ideas?

Uhh, while there is usually a thread for it, I'm thinking you're a little too excited. That thread usually gets posted around 5:00 on the day of the race.

By the way, the Derby goes off at 6:24pm ET on Saturday.

The Oaks is at 5:45pm ET on Friday. There is a superstar filly in the race called RACHEL ALEXANDRA, owned by a classy sportsman from Columbia, MO, Dolphus C. Morrison. She would probably have given the colts all they could handle if she'd lined up in the Derby.

General Quarters - The old man who owns him only has one horse. He is a retired school principal.

This is why you should always drop $5 to win on the long shot...

Anybody ever had a Mint Julep? I just finished my fourth and I'm not sure I'd make it back from the mailbox.

I'm gonna try though, if I don't post back in this thread in half an hour somebody call 911.

I hope everyone there gets pneumonia. That was mean of me.

I just hope John Calipari gets trampled by horses in a freak accident. Tomorrow morning. For no apparent reason.

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI
Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a sweet hangover
And the headlines too, now
