It has changed a lot since 1983. You might not recognize it.

You can take the boy out of the trailer, but you can't take the trailer out of the boy.

They have a Nascar track now and it is surrounded by the Legends shopping and eating district.

It still has Quindaro Blvd. The place is still a haven for white trash and bad apples of all stripes.

Lived in Highland Crest area until 1977. Went back to see my old high school (Turner) and found they have built a new one where we used to call "Roller Coaster Hill".

Absolutely. I grew up out "in the sticks." I remember when the Indian Springs Mall was new, and I used to see movies at the Granada.

Oh gosh. ......no one would name it Indian Springs anymore, would they?

It's like Avondale without the view.Avondale is the only place I've ever seen a drive-through liquor store...

Nice little radiator shop there though, they do good work.

i spent some time during my youth just off of quindaro blvd. true it wasn't the most wholesome environment but kids don't choose. i've seen the development near the track (went back for my 25th yr reunion last fall). not many on this board from kck. i guess i'm not surprised. i left @ 18 but must admit i've never seen hookers in wyco. that's not to say they aren't there -- just not my cup of tea back in the day. my first job was @ Indian springs. i remember when it was being built.

What was Indian Springs?

It was a shopping mall. Over time WyCo went way downhill. People in their 40s and 50s grew up there and remember it fondly (much like the old Northeast neighborhood in KCMO). Much of WyCo has become dangerous and dilapidated in the last 20 years...

Indian springs was nice at one time, then the good stores closed and you ended up with the other stores, the kind you get in dying malls. Shady characters hanging around, car burglaries, eventually shootings and stuff. I think there was even a police station or kiosk or they occupied one of the stores once.

I grew up in Highland Crest until I was about nine. Then we moved out to the sticks by Lake Quivira, still in the Dotte though. Spent many a summer day prowling along the river just the other side of Holliday Dr. Oh the memories...

Yeah, I was shocked to see that too. I can't beleive the Legends and all of that out there now. I remember when it was a big deal to go play video games at The Fun Factory at Indian Springs or The Red Ballooon in Highland Crest. Sure isn't the same place I grew up...

A lot of people are from there. I am far from there now!

I really didn't feel it was that bad growing up. I do remember a little bit of being looked down upon by the JOCO crowd. In fact I worked in JOCO at Zarda's on 63rd. You could tell someone you lived in WYCO and they would usually go " Ohhh" in that smirky way.

My wife was watching a Malcom in the Middle TV show and the mom found one of the kids porn mags. So she took a bunch of pictures of her self making faces and cut them out and pasted them to the porn pictures. So consider yourself lucky. Do you know how damaging that could be to your psychological health? Open your favorite porn mag and see your moms face pasted to some hot chicks naked body flashing the money shot! That is just wrong on so many levels.
