Columbia, Mo. -
What a weekend it was for the Mizzou Football program, related to the 2009 NFL Draft. Three more Tiger standouts had their names called, bringing MU's total for the draft to a Big 12 Conference-best six. Chase Coffman (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/coffman_chase00.html) (3rd round, Cincinnati Bengals), Colin Brown (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/brown_colin00.html) (5th round, Kansas City Chiefs) and Stryker Sulak (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/sulak_stryker00.html) (6th round, Oakland Raiders) became the newest wave of Tigers infiltrating the ranks of the National Football League, bringing the total number of players drafted under Head Coach Gary Pinkel (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/pinkel_gary00.html) to 16 overall, including 14 total in the last five drafts (2005-09).
As of late Sunday evening, two other Tigers had signed free agent contracts following the draft, with at least four others accepting invitations to workout for NFL teams. Record-setting QB Chase Daniel (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/daniel_chase00.html) signed a free agent deal with the Washington Redskins shortly after the draft was over, and LB Brock Christopher (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/christopher_brock00.html) signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Other Tigers who reportedly had accepted invitations to upcoming tryouts included QB Chase Patton (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/patton_chase00.html) (Chicago Bears), PK Jeff Wolfert (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/wolfert_jeff00.html) (Chicago Bears), S Justin Garrett (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/garrett_justin00.html) (Cincinnati Bengals) and WR Tommy Saunders (http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/saunders_tommy00.html) (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

<!-- STORY AD ENDS HERE --> Mizzou led the Big 12 with its six draftees in 2009. Here's a rundown of how the Big 12 teams fared in the draft this year:

MIZZOU - 6
Oklahoma - 5
Texas - 4
Texas Tech - 4
Nebraska - 3
Texas A&M - 2
Baylor - 1
Colorado - 1
Kansas State - 1
Oklahoma State - 1
Iowa State - 0
Kansas - 0

Nationally, only four schools had more draft picks than the Tigers. Here's a look at the top schools in this year's draft:

USC - 11
Ohio State - 7
Oregon State - 7
South Carolina - 7
MIZZOU - 6
Georgia - 6
LSU - 6
Oregon - 6
Cincinnati - 6

The last time Mizzou had this many picks in an NFL Draft was back in 1981, when a total of seven Tigers were selected, with all going in the seventh round or above. Tigers taken that year included OT Howard Richards (1st round, Dallas Cowboys), RB James Wilder (2nd round, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), DB Eric Wright (2nd round, San Francisco 49ers), DE Wendell Ray (5th round, Minnesota Vikings), DB Johnnie Poe (6th round, New Orleans Saints), DB Bill Whitaker (7th round, Green Bay Packers) and DB Ron Fellows (7th round, Dallas Cowboys).

When you're proud that your favorite team was talented enough to have the most NFL draftees in their conference... be sure to throw in a date rape reference.

You're embarrassing.

I'm proud of the team. I hope next year proves to be even better. We definitely have some holes to fill.

It's a mind set as much as anything else. Everybody gets hung up on this guy or that guy leaving, but super-talent aside it's the program that sets the tone every year.
They might not win the 12 North every year, but I doubt they'll ever fall to the depths again either.

Yeah, I'm already embarrassed I share an NFL team with this assclown. I feel sorry for you MU fans that you have to put up with his gay ass in your college team's threads too. Hopefully he stays out of the Royals' threads, because they are about the only thing on this board he hasn't ruined yet.

**crosses fingers**

MAYBE he will just follow his boy-toy, Mark Sanchez, right on over to New York and become a Jets' fan.

If Mizzou's in the thick of the race in the Big 12 North next season, I'll be very happy.

Yeah, it's always hard to see good players go. I know we have a good program, but it's going to take some good recruiting to properly fill those holes. Hopfully, inexperience won't drag us down too much next year. I'd love to see our defense improve.

The more guys we send to the NFL, the better our talent acquisitions become over time. I'm not trying to state the obvious, but it's definitely a selling point to kids who are deathly serious about going on to the professional level.

In Pinkel I trust!

Aside from MU's ranking, care to guess what other aspect of that list I find intriguing?

Pretty impressive for two schools who aren't "real competition" to test one's mettle, yes?
Congrats!:thumb:

You know what is amazing? Of the seven Beavers drafted, not one of them was recruited by another PAC-10 school. All of them were unheralded (Norris was a walk-on) "low star" recruits. Shows you how good a college coach Mike Riley is.

Blaine Gabbert will be a 2nd to 1st round pick one day IMO if he can keep up with what he did in HS. I think the guy actually has a real future in the NFL unlike Chase Daniel. Its to bad. I really like Chase though.

Chase was a good springboard for the program and I'm glad he came along. Gabbert looks like his size, measurables, and experience with the pro-style system could really fuck some of the competition up this year if they don't pay proper heed to him.

God; is it time for football yet?:doh!:

In fact, the more I look at this kid, the less apprehension I have about this season. Wow, where did they find this guy? He's gonna' look like Rothlesburger out there among the pygmies.

2010 will be interesting. 3 OU Players in the top 10-12. OSU should have two top 15 picks as well.

Im excited to see how he does this year. Hes like Chase Daniel on roids lol. Hes got a stronger arm than Daniel, hes about 5 inches taller, heh. Hes very accurate for a young guy, and hes pretty smart with a good head on his shoulders. I expect him to be an awesome QB in college football.

What do you have to offer the Chiefs in terms of players who don't throw the football from behind the line of scrimmage?:Poke::D

But seriously, who should we be looking at this year? Got another Adrian Peterson?

If he does really well in his college career, but not top-ten well on the overall board in a year or two, hopefully late first / high second come NYC; how sweet would it be to kick Thigpen's ass to the curb and pick up a big bruiser like Gabbert if the price is right?
