Kansas City Signs 12 Rookie Free Agents

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the club has signed 12 rookie free agents: CB Jackie Bates, LB Jovan Belcher, TE Tom Crabtree, CB Londen Fryar, DE Dion Gales, T Cameron Goldberg, DE Robert Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, WR Taurus Johnson, S Ricky Price, LB Corey Smith and LB Pierre Walters.

Bates (5-10, 180) appeared in 17 games (15 starts) in two seasons at Hampton (2007-08). He recorded 76 tackles (42 solo), 2.0 stops for loss, four interceptions for 50 yards, 22 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He started his career at Oregon where he played in 22 games. The Sacramento, California native was a two-year starter at De La Salle High School in Concord, California.

Belcher (6-2, 228) saw duty in 45 games as a four-year starter at Maine. He posted 293 tackles (129 solo), 44.0 stops for loss, 18.0 sacks (-122.0 yards), seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed. He played linebacker, offensive tackle, nose guard and fullback at West Babylon High School in West Babylon, New York.

Crabtree (6-5, 244) played in 48 games at Miami (Ohio) where he was a teammate of Chiefs seventh-round draft pick, TE Jake O’Connell. Crabtree caught 40 passes for 329 yards (8.2 avg.) with two TDs during his collegiate career for the RedHawks. The Carroll, Ohio native posted a school-record 54 receptions for 851 yards as a senior at Bloom-Carroll High School.

Fryar (5-11, 192) was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection at Western Michigan as a cornerback. He appeared in 42 games (34 starts), notching 160 tackles (103 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, 34 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. The Stoughton, Massachusetts native was a wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner at Holy Cross High Schol in Jobstown, New Jersey. He is the son of 18-year NFL veteran WR Irving Fryar.

Gales (6-5, 259) played in 25 games (17 starts) at Troy State, producing 92 tackles (64 solo), 23.5 stops for loss, 8.5 sacks (-34.0 yards), 12 QB pressures and one forced fumble. He started his collegiate career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Wiggins, Mississippi. He posted 158 tackles and 68.0 sacks during his prep career at John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Goldberg (6-6, 265) appeared in 44 games (35 starts) at Duke, earning the club’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award as a senior. The Baltimore, Maryland native earned all-metro and all-state honors as a senior at McDonough High School in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Greenwood (6-5, 278) compiled 102 tackles, 22.0 stops for loss and 11.5 sacks at Alabama. He played in 51 games during his career with the Crimson Tide, the second-highest total in school history. He totaled 128 tackles and 19.0 sacks as a senior at Prattville High School in Prattville, Alabama.

Harris (6-4, 300) played in 35 games (22 starts) during his collegiate career at Mississippi. His 22 career starts at three different positions: center (nine starts), left tackle (nine starts) and right tackle (four starts). He was a second-team all-state selection at Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Johnson (6-1, 205) appeared in 48 games (10 starts) at South Florida, ranking third in school history with 112 receptions for 1,434 yards (12.8 avg.), while his 12 TD catches are second in school annals. He added 17 rushes for 81 yards (4.8 avg.) with three TDs and 39 kickoff returns for 784 yards (20.1 avg.). The Cape Coral, Florida native earned all-district and all-conference honors as a senior at Cape Coral High School.

Price (6-1, 195) saw action in 49 games at Oklahoma State, recording 159 tackles (109 solo), 6.5 stops for loss, 3.0 sacks (-19.0 yards), an INT, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Also had 20 receptions for 330 yards (16.5 avg.) and two punt returns for 68 yards. The Houston, Texas native was a starter at wide receiver and defensive back as a senior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas.

Smith (6-1, 225) appeared in 48 games (46 starts) during his collegiate career at Cincinnati. He produced 271 tackles (142 solo), 32.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks (-47.0 yards), three INTs, two forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, three passes defensed and five QB pressures. He finished his prep career with over 4,000 rushing yards as a running back and linebacker at Salem High School in Salem, New Jersey.

Walters (6-5, 269) played in 49 games (35 starts) at Eastern Illinois, notching 154 tackles (80 solo), 43.0 stops for loss, 15.5 sacks and four fumble recoveries. The Forest Park Illinois native was named team MVP as a senior at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois.

Crabtree...GREAT -- Another TE!...'Cuz Lord knows we can't have enough of them!

Nice to see that there are absolutely no linemen on the list...after all, we only need 3 of 'em on D and apparently the exact same number on offense...tackles? we don't need no stinkin' tackles!!

There's also a guard, Darryl Harris, Ole Miss.

What ever happened to that guard from Missouri Western that was getting some press ? Did he get drafted ?
