Wow he was good for a 5'9'' corner drafted in the second round.

Yup, and he only cost a second rounder in a decent draft, not a future first for a deep deep draft in a very shitty draft. We will see in the future who's 5'9" corner works out better. Til then.... good luck. For your coach's sake.

Alphonso Smith doesn't compare to Brandon Flowers, end of story.

2nd round, No. 37 overall pick: Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Scout's take: Denver trades up to get who we believe is the best cornerback in this draft. If Smith were two inches taller, he would have been considered a top-10 pick. He has the speed, fluidity in his hips, instincts and ball skills to make an instant impact in a position of dire need for the Broncos.

I like Flowers more, but it is close. Funnily enough, though, Mike Mayock -- who's far more credible than that link -- said a similar thing about Flowers, only with the condition that if his 40 was 4.45 instead of 4.55. Didn't need to mention his height. Smith's speed is near-identical.

Flowers was very good for you guys.
Mike Mayock had a lot of praise for Alphonso Smith as well... "If he (Alphonso Smith) was 5'11'' he'd be a top ten pick" http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-draft/09000d5d80fcf417/Positional-overview-Top-5-CB

I dont like to admit it as a rival fan but Alphonso Smith will be a very competitive, possibly very good CB in the NFL. Ive seen all of his games from this past season and he is indeed a fantastic corner. His 5'9 stature might hinder him mildly, but it wont make that big of a difference. Denver has a good player on their hands. I think Brandon Flowers and Smith will both be as effective as Antoine Winfield in this league. Dont discount this guy.
