View Full Version : Food and Drink HELP NEEDED? My love of corn is becoming unnatural

Dr. Facebook Fever

I've been eating a lot of corn lately. A lot. I've polished off like 8 cans in the last week. If I'm hungry but not starving at meal time... can 'o corn. Need a evening snack... can 'o corn. Last night I had a can 'o corn for supper. Then for dessert I had another can 'o corn. I love corn. I can't get enough. A can 'o corn in a bowl with salt and a little pepper and I feel happy. I even have other grocerys.... various meats and cheeses, chicken, chili fixin's, I made a big pot of chicky noodles Saturday and what did I eat all weekend? Yea... cans 'o corn. It becons me from the cupboard. I feel I've become obsessive. All I want is corn.... and the good frozen corn isn't even necessary... the cheap stuff is working just fine.

Is this in any way natural? Just a faze? Has anyone experienced this type of thing?

Mind you this thread is not a joke. I'm serious. Just talking about it right now is making me want some corn. And I'm starting to feel a craving for peas just since yesterday.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As long as you aren't involving corn in any sexual aspects of your life, then just embrace it. Lots of people have much worse snack habits than corn. It would be even better if you starting eating fresh corn, some canned corn might have alot of added salt.

You're clearly trying to substitute due to your favorite team's inability to catch a can o' corn, shallow in the outfield, over the last couple of seasons.

There are people whom you can talk to about this.

Its a good healthy snack, but you should find fresh, it is really a shitton better.

Go to the local farmer's market this summer and buy as much of it all as you can every week. Set aside what you will eat in a week and then freeze the rest.

The way you freeze it is shuck it and remove the hairy crap and boil it for 3 minutes. (Don't over do it, but make sure you have a good hot boil going. Stick it in some cold water to cool it off. Then cut the corn off of the cob with a knife. Tahke the corn and put it in quart freezer bags. Make sure you get ALL of the air out to prevent freezer burn. Freeze it until winter.

It is kind of a pain, but it is so worth it come winter when you don't have to eat canned corn.

I've been stretching my grocery dollar as far as possible lately so the cheap stuff has been at the forefront... now that summers about here I'll pay a visit to a kid with a table of sweet corn along side the field he stole it out of and give him $2 for a bag.

Corn is a plant first domesticated by Native American people somewhere over 6,000 years ago, in that part of North America today called Mexico.

There are hundreds of varieties of corn and all of them are Indian corn.

Those original farmers shared their knowledge as well as seeds with other Native peoples, and corn-based agriculture spread as far south as Peru, and as far north as New York and Ontario.

In New York State, corn began to be planted starting around 500 A.D. It was just one of several plants cultivated there.

The Haudenosaunee women were the original farmers in upstate New York.

Iroquois men helped prepare the fields for planting by cutting trees and clearing brush.

After the institution of reservations and reserves men became more active farmers.

Today, flint corn also referred to as white corn continues to be grown in many Iroquois communities. It is used to make traditional cornbread, corn soup and mush.

Corn is food, but also a symbol for cultural pride.

Corn, together with Beans, and Squash are referred to as the Three Sisters who grow from Mother Earth. The Three Sisters are the staples of the traditional Iroquois diet.

Why no I can't say that I have. I'm not a big candy lover actually. It's an occasional thing.

My love of corn is very real. If I was pigging out on donuts or chocolate I would expect the onslaught of negative health-related feedback. As it is I've only chosen a moderately healthy food as my obsession. Your support would be appreciated. You know I hang on your every word. I just want you to accept me for who I am.

I love succotash. It's just corn and baby lima beans mixed together. Sorry to feed your addiction.

Back East I would always buy bags of frozen succotash. I never see that in New Mexico. It's very inconvenient having to buy a bag of each and mix them. Perhaps I could sue someone.

I'm not sure why corn is so good anyway. It's pretty starchy. And well, it rarely digests, thus the corn poo phenomenon.

Im usually like this when it comes to potatoes. I like all kinds of potatoes.

Divorced. It's easy to have strange eating habits. I can cook though. Actaully kind of enjoy it but I tend to save it for the days my daughter is here.

Since the corn I eat is already harvested, canned, shipped and sent to my favorite local grocer maybe it won't hurt your bottom line too much. There seems to be a lot more cans in the store than even I can eat.

Cattle are often fed a mixture of hay, silage, minerals/glutin/protien/corn and more common is the "gravy" or co-products from biofuel production.
