I have 47" FullHD Vizio LCD tv at the house...I am always seeing "now broadcasting in HD" and I'm like I want that for ffotball baseball and my tv shows...I ave dish dvr and don't want to upgrade to a new reciever from dish or switch to mediacom cause I heard they suck plus its expensive....I really only care about local channels...ABC, FOX, CBS, and NBC. What is the best method for achieving an HD signal for local channels?
Thanks for your input CP.

Your Vizio should have a built in hd tuner so just go to your setup and search digital channels, thats all i had to do. However you may need some type of antenna ? don't take my word for that however.

Go to this website:

Put in your address and see if you are close enough to pick up a decent local antenna signal. If not, you might look at purchasing a bigger one to place outside your house.

I don't know about dish dvr but time warner the digital HD normal channels are in the 1400s not the 3 4 5 we're all accustomed to.

You did this without an antenna attached to the TV?

I'm surprised you got any channels at all without an antenna. That means you must be getting strong signals. You can probably get by with a cheap set-top antenna. They can be bought for about $10.

Those black bars may be because the TV is in the wrong mode. Go into the setup and try another option.

i think from what ive gathered is that my tv is 16:9 and anything that is broadcasted in 4:3 will have black bars...the new last night had the ars but jay leno didnt and it was 1000x better picture

What kind of antenna did you get?
I've got mediacom, and the local channels come in HDTV. I haven't had any problems, but I'm not about to pay to get all of my channels in HDTV.
