I went outside this morning and pee'd on an Oriole, or a bird that looked very similar to an Oriole. I then proceeded to pluck out its wings so it would never fly again. Royals win tonight.....

On a funny side note....I was playing MLB 2K last night on XBOX 360 and Steve Phillips was discussing how the Royals want to win this year but they need to avoid those early season long road losing streaks were they will drop a dozen or so games. How ironic is that, and even funnier, true?

Obvious statement of the day.... we really need AT LEAST a split against Baltimore. We should really win it though.

It's not a curse. We're still in 1st place, we just have a little company. We're fine. This is just our first downswing of the season. It happens. It's going to be OK........

Detroit or Chicago should win this Division. They have the best comb of pitching/hitting. KC doesn't have f uck all for any consistency of hitting. I still think a good year will be anything close to 80 wins. We just don't have sack to hang for a full year. JMHO

The Twins won 6-5. However, Verlander has definitely regained form. He has K'd 44 batters in his last four starts covering 29 innings. The guy is on fire.

The Orioles gave Meche trouble last year; he was 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in his two starts against them. He's 4-6 with a 3.42 ERA in 17 games against the Birds overall. Davies has pitched against the Orioles twice in his career, going 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA. Hochevar allowed eight runs on seven hits in two innings in his season debut against the Athletics on Tuesday night.

Around the Cage: Franchise players
Who would Major Leaguers build their teams around?
By Doug Miller / MLB.com

05/14/09 4:56 PM ET

Every game seemingly brings another young, slugging star to the field in The Show.

Major League Baseball's best and brightest under the age of 30 -- and often under 25 -- continue to dazzle us with long-ball power, baserunning, slick fielding, powerful throwing arms, charisma, media savvy and a long list of intangibles that make them seem like veterans bound for the Hall of Fame.

We hear the term "franchise player" all the time, often for more than one guy on the same team. But if you really were a big league general manager and had to choose one of today's top young players to start your ballclub, who would it be?

To help answer that question, we came up with a fearsome five from which to choose, and MLB.com's beat reporters hit the clubhouses and let the question fly: "Among Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers, Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies, Hanley Ramirez of the Florida Marlins and Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox, who would you most want to build your franchise around, and why?"

The responses were informative, entertaining, and, a good portion of the time, brought from outside the box. Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, for example, couldn't decide on one so he mentioned two.

And while Ramirez got the most votes, the second-place finisher, Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays, wasn't even one of the players named in the question.

Others players mentioned who weren't mentioned in the top five were David Wright of the Mets, Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers, Curtis Granderson of the Tigers and Josh Johnson of the Marlins.

In other words, it was an interesting topic, and one that culled a lot of passionate replies from baseball's finest.

Here's a rundown from Around the Cage:

They Said It ...

Kevin Millar, 1B/DH, Blue Jays: "Dustin Pedroia. He's a complete baseball player. He plays hard every day, runs the balls out and doesn't make mistakes on the baseball field."

Jason Kendall, C, Brewers: "Braun, no doubt. And I'm not just saying that because he's a teammate. No way. He's the all-around player. All of those guys can change the game with a swing, but what Braun can do on a daily basis is pretty impressive."

Jason Bay, LF, Red Sox: "I'd have to say Hanley Ramirez. Shortstops with power and what he does are very hard to come by. He's one of the most exciting players in the league. You look at those positions, up the middle, you want to build a team around those guys. He'd be a guy I'd want to anchor my defense around for more than a few years."

Gary Matthews Sr., Phillies broadcaster and former player: "I'd say Howard because of the power, and I'd say Ramirez because he's a Triple Crown threat. He can steal bases. He can leadoff for you. He can hit in the middle of the lineup. He plays shortstop. He does everything that you want. And Howard, really, I don't know if it's too early to start talking about Gold Glove, but he's played magnificently. Last September, he carried that club by himself. That's a real tough one. But I'll take Howard."

Brian Anderson, CF, White Sox: "Hanley Ramirez, only because ... well, all of those guys are so good. I enjoy watching Ryan Howard just like the next guy, but as good as Ryan is, I want to pick someone who is young and can play defense, too. Hanley plays the most important position on the field other than catcher, and the guy absolutely rakes."

Aubrey Huff, 1B, Orioles: "I'd go with Ryan Braun, because he's from the U [of Miami] and he's a little cocky. He's one of the youngest in that group and he's obviously got tremendous power. I don't know what kind of defender he is, but I'll take the power any day."

Rich Aurilia, 1B/3B, Giants: "Ramirez. He's a multidimensional player. One, he's a shortstop, so he's in the middle of the field and he's in the middle of a lot of the action. Two, he is a pretty good power hitter, he's a pretty good hitter for average and he can steal some bases. I think defensively he's probably above average. At this point in time, he's not going to win any Gold Gloves soon, but he can maybe get to that point. He's one of those special talents. When you talk about five-tool guys, he's probably one of them. All those other guys are great players, but some of them have limitations."

Chone Figgins, 3B, Angels: "I'd go with Hanley Ramirez. I mean, look what he did for that team after Boston traded him. He turned that team around. With him in the lineup, playing one of the most difficult and important positions, you get everything. He creates runs and saves them. He's obviously the guy who's making the Marlins good. He's got everything you're looking for: speed, power, defense, hitting for average ... the whole package."

Brett Dolan, Astros broadcaster: "Hanley Ramirez. I know he's had some struggles defensively but he can run, he can hit for power. He has all the tools and arm strength. I thought about Braun but Hanley would be my pick."

Aaron Miles, IF, Cubs: "You can't go wrong with any of those guys, but I would probably pick Cabrera because, and this is not dissing him at all, he's already put on some pounds and he's still doing what he's doing. If the other guys put on pounds and get out of shape, I don't know if they could continue. Obviously, it hasn't affected Cabrera, and he can continue to do what he's doing."

Miguel Tejada, SS, Astros: "Hanley Ramirez is probably my first choice. He can steal bases, he can hit for power, he can hit for average, and he's a shortstop. He can do everything."

Don Wakamatsu, Manager, Mariners: "To me, it would be either Dustin Pedroia or Hanley Ramirez because both have a combination of offense and defense up the middle. Not to say the other guys are not good defenders, but the two I mentioned are dual-role guys and it's hard to find offensive middle infielders."

Billy, Do Be a Hero

<script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.stlyrics.com/uptext.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.stlyrics.com/ringup_song.js"></script>
<!--Artist: Paper Lace--> <!--Song: Billy, Don't Be a Hero--> The marchin' band came down along Main Street
The soldier-blues fell in behind
I looked across and there I saw Billy
Waiting to go and join the line
And with her head upon his shoulder
His young and lovely fiancee
From where I stood, I saw she was cryin'
And through her tears I heard her say

"Billy, do be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"
"Billy, do be a hero, come back and make me your wife"
And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"
"Billy, do be a hero, come back to me"

The soldier-blues were trapped on a hillside
The battle raging all around
The sergeant cried "We've got to hang on, boys"
"We got to hold this piece a'ground"
"I need a volunteer to ride up"
"And bring us back some extra men"
And Billy's hand was up in a moment
Forgettin' all the words she said

She said
"Billy, do be a hero, don't be a fool with your life"
"Billy, do be a hero, come back and make me your wife"
And as he started to go she said "Billy, keep your head lo-o-ow"
"Billy, do be a hero, come back to me"

I heard his fiancee got a letter
That told how Billy died that day
The letter said that he was a hero
She should be proud he died that way
I heard she threw that letter away

Not going to happen. This team hits and fields too fucking poorly. Guillen is such a liability with his limited range and limited speed on the bases he should be a platoon player at best at this point. He seldom does get to show off his arm so he really has little value. His pop is gone in his bat now that he is off the juice so he really brings nothing of value to the table.

Don't even get me started on the rest of the worthless sons of bitches we call starting position players. Fucking ridiculous. Was nice while it lasted but it looks like the REAL Royals have come back. I am about the biggest Royal fan you will find and it has some to this for me.
