Good. I'm not sure how Chucky will do, but I wasn't a fan of Cornholer on there. He's great on PTI, but I'd just as soon not see him anywhere else. Good night Canada.

Sounds like ESPN might actually field a decent group of guys this year. Chucky will at least give some decent legit football analysis.

Gruden is an excellent analyst. This is a great fit. Gruden was great during the NFL Draft coverage on NFLN.

Anybody would be better than Kornholio.
I'd even take back Dennis Miller over Kornholio.

I like it, I just hope Gruden doesn't temper his comments because he's just waiting for another head coaching position.

Thank god!!!!!!!!!

No more....

You know. I know I'm going to get flak for bringing it up. Here tonight in Green Bay. When Aaron Brooks has thrown for 434 yards and 3 td passes. But I have to wonder in the back of everyones mind. Are people thinking of someone. You know who I mean. A qb. A great qb who played here in Green Bay for so many years. And if Rodgers is shredding this defense this way, just how many yards would Brett Favre have thrown. I'm just saying.

Good. TK is good on PTI (or was. I haven't been able to catch it in awhile) but total shit on MNF.

I'm not a huge Gruden fan, in fact, I kinda hate him. But he should at least recognize that there is a football game on and he should talk about it.

Mike Golic thought he was supposed to get that job when Kornheiser was hired. Now he must know it's just that people don't like him and he brings nothing to the table other than saying, "COME ON! WHAT IS THAT?"

maybe they are starting to listen to actual football fans boycott the shit they are selling, because they were hellbent trying to get the casual fan interested with these jokers, let's focus on the game this year.

yep. Gruden was awesome during the draft and he was probably the best part of their coverage. I like his dry sense of humor.

Doubtful. They're talking about multiple regular season games and even playoff/SUPERBOWL games overseas.

What is up with football announcers and being scared of flying?

The move is being sold as a consequence of Kornheiser’s fear of flying; some will wonder whether there was something more to the move.

“I am totally grateful for the MNF opportunity that I truly enjoyed the last three seasons,” Kornheiser said in a release issued by ESPN. “I feel we got better each year. My fear of planes is legendary and sadly true. When I looked at the upcoming schedule it was the perfect storm that would’ve frequently moved me from the bus to the air. I kept looking at the schedule the past month and wanted to find a way to quietly extricate myself.

”If I could handpick a replacement of a football guy, I would cast a net and drag in Jon Gruden. He is the two things you most want — smart and funny — and has the two things I don’t — good hair and a tan. I love PTI and am looking forward to continuing to yammer and yodel with [Michael] Wilbon until the end of time.”

Gruden will make a great analyst. Knows offense, is witty, and is a straight shooter. He's young enough that he will probably take at least one more stint as a head coach, but if he wanted to develop his craft, he could become the #1 analyst in the league.

In fairness, his monologues at the beginning were typically OK, but that was it.

He was horrible when it wasn't scripted, and when he did have something to work in it was forced.

I've never heard his radio show - perhaps in that environment, where he (a) isn't seen, and (b) is in control, he is better. But he always struck me as a fish-out-of-water in the booth, intimidated by the surroundings and the jock in the booth (be it Theismann or Jaworski) and compensated for that by being difficult and annoying.

And for the love of God, what was he thinking with that combover? YOU'RE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION, DUMBASS. Either get a wig or shave it off. Jesus. :shake:

While I'm ecstatic that Kornhole is gone, I'm equally shocked that a rookie analyst got promoted to the best job that fast. I still say Boomer Esiason got screwed.

Oh Yes! Finally Kornheiser is gone.

Couldn't stand him. Always looking for something to turn into "the story" of the game rather than talking about the action down on the field.

So much happier they're bringing in a football guy.

There's some speculation that Kornholio was told that he's out, and that this story was concocted as a way for Kornholio to "save face".

Kornheiser was great, and very entertaining. It never ceases to amaze me what a bunch of old men we have on this board who would rather sit and listen to meatheads state the obvious. Give me a comedian, it's more interesting.

I don't mind a guy that's funny in the booth, but it's got to be organic. It doesn't work when you take a guy, put him in the booth and say, "Now, let's have some of that same zany banter you and Wilbon have" and then make contrived situations to try and make it work. The reason he and Wilbon have a good chemistry on PTI is that they've worked together at the Washington Post for so long they have a natural give and take. It's not contrived. On MNF it always felt contrived.
The other reason I didn't think Kornheiser worked in the booth was because he's not a guy that's going to break things down, he's a guy that looks at things in a broader sense, more general terms. Not Xs and Os. He even used to goof about it on his old radio show. They'd say, tongue in cheek, "More hardcore sports talk coming up!"
When he was trying to work his way in during the game, between plays, it didn't work for me.
I think he could be good at halftime doing something, but not in the booth. I think a guy like Boomer Esiason is funny in the booth, he makes jokes, but he also knows football. That's the kind of guy they need, I think.
