Calling it now, the Cardinals will suffer a total beatdown. Royals fans leave the game happy but also wondering where that offense was the last couple days.

Will the Royals score?

LMAO

we have not scored in 24 innings....and dumbass Hillman will run Avilles out there again today thus putting 2 automatic outs in the lineup. Therefore....no. Not unless we get a lucky break as in an error on the Cards or someone gets a hold of a mistake pitch for a jack.

If we have to get a couple hits in one inning to score...forget about it.

Edit: I stand corrected. I did not check the lineup. Bloomy is in...Avilles out. So that is 1 step in the right direction.

Given the offensive futility, I'm surprised Trey hasn't switched Crisp and DeJesus.

Maybe, just maybe, their career numbers in the other's respective spot would suggest that this might be worth a try.

On this team we need stolen bases. Plus DDJ has more power than Coco.

But you believe that where one hits in the order shouldn't matter, so this is a moot point for folks like yourself.

No, batting order is not the least little bit relevant to their production. You set the batting order based on what you got, not the other way around.

This would be like crunching the numbers and figuring out one guy is a beast the last three years on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through Sundays, so you sit him on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In statistics there's a pretty important rule that says "correlation does not necessarily imply causation".

It's relevant only so much as it affects a player's mental approach to the game.

That said, I understand what you're saying, alnorth. Just don't agree 100 percent.

I think its more likely that something else is causing it. In my silly example above, a player's bad performance might be correlated with Tuesday and Thursday, but then you look into it more and realize he tended to go to wild late night parties more often on Monday and Wednesday, and was tired the next day.

DDJ's production may be more correlated with the calendar than batting order. That is, it is far more likely that the league has simply figured out how to pitch to him.

Here's my two cents for what's going on:

1. Being the "leadoff" hitter forces DDJ to have a more patient approach at the plate. He knows he needs to see pitches and work the count. It's his role in inning 1, and he takes this approach for the rest of the game.

2. The 2 hole typically sees more fastballs.

After watching the team the last 7 days I am predicting the following for today.

We will lose.
We will score 3 runs or less.
We will strike out 8 or more times.
We will make 2 errors.
We will ground into 2 DPs
4 Royals pitchers will take the mound today.

If Hillman told Bannister to pitch around Pujols in the 1st he is a total fuckhead. I was all with Jamie Quirk when he said in the 1ast we should have gone after him. Just smacks of irony when you pitch around him in the 1st inning with 2 out no one on and you pitch to him in the 3rd with 1 out and RISP.

Frankly, I think I need to stop defending Hillman. Its not like I think he's a great manager anyway, I think he's only about average.

Part of the manager's job description from Anaheim to Florida is to get bitched at by frustrated fans when they arent leading their division comfortably. If he's any good, he'll shut his critics up himself.

There are some good things that happened today: 1) Got another quality start (and RBI) from Bannister 2) No bullpen meltdown 3) Bale comes back and pitches well 4) Detroit is off their hot streak and now seeming to come back to earth 5) we got the top of the rotation headed into next week.

Home at last. I took off after the end of the 8th inning so I wouldn't get stuck in a ton of traffic (way too far to drive). Nice to be posting on a real keyboard again.

Had a good time at the ballpark. The game itself was a bit boring, but I enjoyed being there. I don't think I'd seen the Royals win in person for about 10 years, so God knows they were due.

I got home around 7pm after stopping at the TA Travel Center at exit 203 to fill up & grab some Taco Bell wearing my Zack Greinke royal blue t-shirt where the first person I see wearing Cardinals stuff says "The Royals Suck"...I just responded back..."not today!".

Cardinal fans are insufferable.

In other news, John Mayberry Jr. went 0-5 with a strikeout today. I hope he's still in the lineup tomorrow for the Phils.
