...is about to ring (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090527/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gm_bondholders). There was an old saying that whatever is good for GM is also good for America. This is not true anymore. For the country to survive, GM is the lamb to be sacrificed. Hopefully, it can reorganize and become a better company.

A General Motors Corp. bankruptcy filing seemed inevitable after a rebellion by its bondholders forced it to withdraw on Wednesday a plan to swap bond debt for company stock.

Here are some of the questions I like to ask if GM goes belly up:

1. Are all the GM stock, millions of them, trash?

2. What about the existing contract with UAW?

3. GM said earlier that it will close about 1100 dealerships. Now could it be more? I hope all of the boarders here would be affected as little as possible.

Here are some of the questions I like to ask if GM goes belly up: It's only BK, not "belly up"
1. Are all the GM stock, millions of them, trash? Pretty much
2. What about the existing contract with UAW? BK will essentially "break" the UAW
3. GM said earlier that it will close about 1100 dealerships. Now could it be more? I hope all of the boarders here would be affected as little as possible

1100 will most likely suffice.

What if GM pulled a "Green Bay" and was bought collectively by the GM workers?

Would they even want to? And who would they blame when it came time to discuss union contracts? Can one walk out on themselves?

I'll never drive another GM vehicle. My 1984 Chevy S10 was a piece of crap.

All of my cars have been either GM or Ford (mostly GM). A couple of them were real pieces of crap, but overall I've had good experiences.

I'll probably continue to buy American, assuming any American companies survive this shit.

We have 2 American vehicles. One has 176,000 the other is an '85 and has 165,000. Virtually trouble free. I have no problem with buying American.

There are no American car companies anymore.

All goverment agencies will be driving GM for the next decade. It's okay to run from the police now. Odds are you can get away in a car chase.

Heh, I had an '84 S10 too, and yes, it was complete crap. Fuggin' thing drank gas like a full size V8 truck, but yet had no power at all. Than again, it's probably a little unfair to judge them today on what they were building 25 years ago.

I'm sure glad we dumped bazillions of dollars into a company that's going to go bankrupt anyway.

I'm never going to buy a car from a company that the government owns. I'm not going to perpetuate this corporate welfare (if it helps one of our large voter blocks)

Camarohead:

A common nickname for Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City, Missouri due to its abundance of uneducated, mullet-sporting fans.
Denver Bronco fan: "I'm braving the crowd and going to watch a game at Camarohead this weekend."
