View Full Version : Movies and TV The Hangover (Best Comedy of 09?)

I know Vegas bachelor party movies have been done to death, but not like this one. Even looking at the poster makes me laugh. It'll be nice to get some new blood on the comedy scene rather than the "frat pack" who've been mailing their performances in here lately. The trailer is enough to get anybody hooked. I think this is going to be the best comedy of 09. I've read in a couple places that this might be on the level of Animal House. It has the "Nard-dogg" in it...so it can't be that bad. It opens June 5th. Are you going to see it?

The Plot:
Two days before his wedding, Doug and his three friends drive to Las Vegas for a blow-out bachelor party they'll never forget. But, in fact, when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning, they can't remember a thing. For some reason, they find a tiger in the bathroom and a six-month-old baby in the closet of their suite at Caesars Palace. The one thing they can't find is Doug. With no clue as to what transpired and little time to spare, the trio must retrace their hazy steps and all their bad decisions in order to figure out where things went wrong and hopefully get Doug back to L.A. in time to walk down the aisle.

Very bad things has some funny stuff in it, but is it really a comedy?

If it is, it's a dark one. Not really comparable to this I don't think. I love that movie BTW.

It opens up this Friday against Will Ferrel's Land of the Lost. Even being rated R, I think the Hangover is going to seriously hamper Land of the Lost's opening. I think I'll actually probably go see both of them. I'm gonna give Ferrel one more chance.

He says it's funny from beginning to end and that these roles are going to catapult these guys into superstardom. And the weird thing about this guy is that he doesn't normally feed the hype, so it must be pretty damn good.

I think Will Ferrel just needs to stop being put in lead roles and stick with the girl who brought him to the dance.

He's a great, funny side kick kind of actor like in Old School but he needs a strong supporting cast or a guy like Vincent Vaughn there to help take some pressure off him and to play off.

The only role I can think of where he succeeded in that fasion was Anchor Man and that's because it was so off the wall.

Could be wrong but that's the way I see it.

not even close to a movie like animal house which had a dozen great characters and several interesting subplots and many iconic moments.....

zach galifarogjrvgjvsevis gets 90% of the laughs (but please don't compare him to Belushi), and there are some great graphic moments (stay for the credits!) that startle you, but i didn't think the other 2 guys were anything special...you could have replaced them with a dozen actors..

On a tangent, I don't think there will be "another" Animal House. If a movie is epic on the level of Animal House, we will Just think of it on a different plane. In order for it to be on the same epic level of Animal House, it would have to be a different type of comedy. Movies like Old School and (it looks like) the Hangover are Animal House "type" movies. In order for anything to be as epic as Animal House it can't follow the Animal House theme, or else it will be just a wanna-be. There won't be an "unseating" of Animal House, there will just be the next big thing.

This is correct. I wish the entire movie had the same humor as the last ten or so minutes (including the credits).

Ed Helm is less than funny. Brad Cooper did a good job, but the part wasn't written very well. I think there was a lot of potential that was never realized on the Cooper role.

If Zach G. wasn't in this movie, it would have been a complete waste. oooh, other than the Mike Tyson karaoke bit.

The Dan Band. Funny guys.
They had a concert on "Bravo" several years back, and it was hilarious. I decided to look them up and see if they toured, and they did. They were coincidentally going to be in the Twin Cities the same time my wife and I were going up to River Falls. So we bought tickets to see the show. So we haul ass on the day we are going up there, to give us time to check in and relax before the show. We get there and I start to look up directions to where they are playing. IMO this is one of the most over-rated movies I have seen in some time. I had a feeling that was going to be the case after all the build up/advertising done before it came out. I am a fan of Galafinakis' stand up, but the movie fell a little flat. It was a very contrived. I can't see this joining the cult comedy classics.

I liked the other guy in the movie, the guy that placed Sackmaster in Wedding Crashers. I didn't think the fat bearded guy was that funny, I must be the only one. It was like they were trying too hard. I thought the movie would be better after hearing the reviews, but it wasn't bad. I agree it was an above average comedy, but I kept watching because I wanted to see what was unfolding next, not because I was dying of laughter.

If Zach hadn't played the retard part, he wouldn't have been relevant in the movie at all.
