Spinoff...

What's the nastiest excuse for "beer" that you've forced down your gullet?

Bonus points if you couldn't make it through the entire can/bottle.

I also made a strawberry blond for the wife a while ago that gross, but I'm pretty sure the batch got infected.

I don't think I've encountered a beer that I wouldn't finish or that I would drink if offered to me.

I once had a Belgium Geuze (young lambic without the fruit) that wasn't terribly appealing. That beer was far more challenging to see all the way through than any cheap American domestic. But by the time I finished it I clearly saw it's potential as an acquired taste type of thing.

At my graduation party, the asshole who took all our money and was supposed to get a namebrand beer showed up with several kegs of Buckhorn instead. He got his ass kicked for that.

One of the worst beers I ever tasted was Grolsch. I had a roommate in the Navy who acted like it was the nectar of the Gods. Just tasted foul and skunky to me. Ugh.

Not sure if it's because of my age (I'm 22), but to me a beer's pretty much just a beer. Sure I have some I prefer more than others but when it comes down to it I will pretty much drink anything.

Of course I find it pretty funny how I used to hate beer back in high school. I depended on chugging vodka to get drunk. Guess I got sick off of vodka one too many times. I forced myself to drink beer until eventually I finally developed a taste for it, now I love it.

From my post under "Bud Light Lime" thread:

"Lawnmower Beer" includes Bud (and the whole Bud lesser line: like Busch, Natty Light, Busch Light Bud Light) Miller and all its lesser line, PBR, Schlitz, Coors and lesser line, etc.

When I was in college we became experts on cheap beer. Anybody remember these brands?:

905, Carling Black Label, Schmidt's, Grain Belt, Hamm's, Pig's Eye, Red, White and Blue, Weideman's, Stag, Blatz, Shoenling's Little Kings.

These were slightly better: Heilman's Old Style, Point, Leinenkugel, Huber, Genessee.

There was also Shaefer, Mickey's Big Mouth, Olde English (these two being Malt Liquors) and perhaps the worst beer EVAH from Evansville, IN, Lemp Beer.

Who's slogan was "GO LEMP." They mean it too, man.

Lone Star................

Oh yeah, that crap is bad. I let a friend of mine borrow a car trailer last year so he could go pick up two ATV's down in UT. As a "Thank You," he picked me up 2 cases of Lone Star. I chilled it down to 32 in the man fridge and cracked a bottle. I couldn't even gut down one bottle. I ended up giving it away. About two weeks later, the old lady across the alley brought over 2 six packs of Lone Star out of the blue. I had helped her out and fixed her car for her the day before. I thanked her and took it out to the garbage after she left.

Lemp Beer.

Who's slogan was "GO LEMP." They mean it too, man.

When I was in St. Louis for graduate school, I found a $1.99 a 12 pack sale on Lemp Beer at Schnucks once (in 1993). I bought a ton of it. Sure it sucked, but it was all I could afford on my piddling stipend.

FWIW, one of the Pumpkin Ales would be my all time worst, though. I just don't get it.

What exactly is it, a nut brown ale?

It's their Winter Warmer brew...

Winter warmer is a traditional malty-sweet English Strong Ale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Strong_Ale) that is brewed in the winter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter) months. It is usually quite dark, but not as dark as a stout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stout), with a big malt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malt) presence. Sometimes, winter warmer has a few spices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spices), especially in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), and the average alcohol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol) content by volume ranges from 6.0% to 8.0%.It has some strange sorta spice aftertaste that makes me wanna gag. Some molasses flavor. Very malty beer.

I really disliked it...

Went on a tour of the world beers at walt disney world. All was good until we reached France. That beer was just gawd aweful. So bad that I can not remember the name. If I saw it I would probably instantly have projectile vomit.
Although today I had a Leninkugel (sp?) Berry Weiss. I picked it up for a mere 75 cents the other day. Needless to say I didn't finish the other 2/3rds of it. Terrible.

Oh good Gawd! That stuff is soooooooooooooo bad. I got the Christmas pack four years ago and that was part of the mix. I ended up giving the extra bottles of that away as well. That brew had a nasty after taste that stayed with you, long after you took a pull.

All Sam Adams beer has a nasty aftertaste - I have no idea what causes it, but even in the really good ones it's there to a certain extent.

I've never had one, but I remember my grandpa used to drink Falstaff when I was a little kid. He'd put salt in it first, which I've never seen anybody else do.

Do they still even make Falstaff?

My grandpa put salt in beer too, but he drank Busch Bavarian, blue cans with a round logo and a white mountain on the label. He only drank it in bottles, said beer in cans was crap, and I think he was probably right.

Falstaff was the flagship brand for Lemp Brewing in St. Louis, and in the beginning of the 1900's was as popular (or more popular) than Bud.

http://www.falstaffbrewing.com/

The Lemp family had a series of suicides and weirdness, they have a haunted mansion open to the public in St. Louis:

Picked this up in Wisconsin basically as a joke for my buddies here in KC. Total cost: $5.97 for a 24 pack. And God was there a reason for that.

We cracked em open last night after getting back from the bars. Heinous is much too kind. Tastes like you're drinking rotten rice.

That's probably a Huber Beer product, since its made in Monroe, WI. The brewery there makes Huber Beer, and all the Berghoff Beers.
I've been to the brewery, nice folks, marginal beers.

Country Club 40 oz. I planned on drinking it with my friend on his front porch outta paper bags. Well we tried and failed miserably. Drank about 1/3 of it before giving up. Shoulda known it was gonna be nasty since it was I found it in the 'clearance cart' at the local supermarket. It was only $1 a forty.

Thats the beer I saw in SEMO on a canoe trip on the Eleven Point several years ago. I have always kicked myself for not buying a 6 pack just keep the cans.

I've had tons of Genessee. It was brewed in Rochester NY and I grew up there. They make a Genessee Cream Ale that actually isn't too bad.

Well to be fair the shittiness of a beer depends upon how often you have to drink it.

Back in college we used to order pallets of beer for $6 a case for our house parties. 80 cases of Beast a weekend. You drink that long enough and you just get used to it. Even today I'd drink beast or beast ice, before I'd drink bud, miller, coors, PBR or any of the other stuff.
