WELLINGTON, New Zealand Palau agreed to accept 17 Chinese Muslims who have languished in legal limbo at Guantanamo Bay, indicating a resolution to one of the major obstacles to closing the U.S. prison camp.

Two U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. was prepared to give Palau up to $200 million in development, budget support and other assistance in return for accepting the Uighurs and as part of a mutual defense and cooperation treaty that is due to be renegotiated this year.

Would you take $200,000,000 to care for 17 people for the remainder of their life?

How many billions will Obama and the dems spend on Muslims life time support?

Why can't they just be sent to some Islamic country without the US money? Oh Snap, I know. BHO wants to give our money to his fellow man.

Bermuda is also taking 4.

Also China is pissed at Palau for taking them which could be part of the reason for the "mutual defense and cooperation treaty" and the money.

Turn them over to China if China plays hard ball with N.Korea. Two birds with one stone

Is that supposed to be justification?

If Republicans (and an unfortunate amount of Democrats) weren't fear mongering bullshit, they could have just come to the United States. Instead, we have to pay a country money to take these innocent people that should never have been locked up to begin with.

Obama must be buying into the fear mongering. That or he's not standing up for what he actually believes.

It would have been much cheaper if these douchebags had never been captured.

17 standard issue bullets have to cost less than that. :)

I think he's doing what's practical. When you have Reid, you party's Senate majority leader, saying at a press conference that it's impossible to move detainees to American prisoners without releasing them first, what choice do you have?

You can tell that most of them don't believe the bs they're saying. On any rational look at it, every argument breaks down. But a good part of foreign policy today reloves around the politics of fear.
