Curious what people thought of Artie. There's a war a brewing at SFN, but they're a little too close to the issue.

I thought he got a little confrontational at times, the 'I'll be making 80G tonight while you make scale at SNL' at Sudekis on OT being the worst. But he was funny many times as well.

EDIT: Sorry, HBO pulled the clips.

Artie was being a dick just to be a dick. I love Howard Stern just as much as anyone, but Artie has been way over the top lately.

I thought he went out of his way to be an ass. If he didn't want to be there he shouldn't have accepted the invite. Coming on there and treating everyone like shit was way over the top. I mean come on, he's artie fucking lange. If it wasn't for that damn movie beer league that they play on comedy central every 2 days I would have never heard of him.

They say he makes like $2 million a year though doing Stern and stand up. I thought he was being an ass too but they had to know that's what they were getting with him.

To be fair, I think if the show didn't suck so bad and Joe Buck wasn't such a dick, like OMG I've been txtng w/ Favre all day 2 make sure hes really coming on my show, lol, and also if he didn't put TMZ.com as his favorite website, it wouldn't have been as bad.

I laughed hardest at the point when Buck asked Sudekis 'so your show is live . . . ' and Artie starts guffawing 'It's effing Saturday Night Live!!!'

Second was Sudekis retorting to Artie chipping him about not being in big films and Sudekus said 'but I still have a chance.'

Artie definitely overstepped with the remark I highlighted above, and the crowd responded appropriately with crickets.

Artie missed in the 'Joe's gay' smaque a plump ripe Midnight Cowboy reference, though.

He's had bit parts in Elf and Old School, but the bulk of his time has been balancing his daily gig with Howard, live standup on weekends, and his insatiable hunger for heroin [sez, he's been clean since the new year . . . [-] he's a liar, [+] he has lost 70 or so pounds, you be the judge].

Also, he co-wrote a bestseller about his life to this point [Too Fat To Fish] which just went paperback, which is why he's making all these appearances.

He's a talented guy with a lot of demons. Heroin kept him mellow, and going clean has brought out a manic, insecure, side of him. For the sake of his long term sobriety I'm giving him a good bit of slack on it though, ie better he's abrasive, motormouthed, and clean, than mellow, nodding out, and back on the smack. Hopefully he'll mellow a bit as he finds his footing.

Here's a more mellow, humanized, side of Artie on NPR, from last fall, replayed on NPR just the other day [again, gotta get that paperback $$].

For the other side, the audio of the Artie/Teddy fight on the NPR doesn't do the situation justice.

Here's the video, NSFW

BTW - Artie and Teddy have made up, and travel together weekly for his standup gigs.

He def. has a ton of problems...but hopefully he cleans his ass up for good and just stays a prick. I remember him from those flicks you mentioned but mostly from dirty work cause that was one of my fav. stupid comedies.

Yeah, I forgot to add, people seeing this cold would do well to be versed in Howard's roasts, which take it up a notch even from the Comedy Central Roasts. Comedians going EVERYWHERE to 'dozens' everyone in the room. That's where a lot of what you're seeing on there got it's start.

MoF, the only guy who's gotten in trouble for the harshness of his comments [or more likely, the object of them] is Sal the stockbroker for his Mr. Ed joke about Howard's GF, now wife, Beth.

I honestly think at this point, Joe's madder about how he wilted than anything Artie did.

The debate rages on whether Artie was funny or not, the panning of Joe is nearly universal.

On one hand he got more attention for his show than merited or hoped for.

OTOH, it's Magic Johnson/Chevy Chase attention.

I thought Artie was hilarious, a super dick but hilarious....

assuming he was trying to be funny or just doesn't like buck, ya can't tell..

Buck probably is poed that he got to him, but that Sal guy kinda was getting irritated too.

Just caught this last night. My God Joe Buck is so horrible it's painful! He's got the personality of wallpaper. Artie was cracking me up. His imitation of Jack Buck was hysterical.
