Marshall's agent, Kennard McGuire, confirmed that to ESPN's Michael Smith on Tuesday: "There was a meeting with Mr. Bowlen and Brandon did ask to be traded. He was told by ownership that the team would do everything in its power to accommodate those wishes. We do feel that a change of scenery is not only important but necessary."

I think they should pay the guy some coin with lots of outs thanks to his off the field issues. But, I don't really have a say in it... Eddie Royal has to be thinking "what the hell?"

Trade Marshall for "whatever nice deal you can get"... take that, package it up nicely and go get Boldin.

I agree. However, the risk is exaggerated when it's not a position of need and a team gives up a high, in this case 1st round, pick to draft the player.

That's why until Smith proves his worth most fans will look at it as an extremely questionable move especially given the context of Denver's already busy offseason.

True, they gave up a 2010 R1 pick to take a player at the top of R2 in 2009 that was projected by some as a potential late R1 guy ... so, if he proves worthy of the pick... it was a hell of a deal.

It was Denver's pick... but at this point, nobody knows who is going to pick where... only where you think they will pick. Anything can happen. A couple of years ago, Dallas was all excited about the Browns R1 pick when they traded with CLE so they could get Quinn. To whom it may concern. Life is filled with change, and where I am in my life now change is probably best. It’s hard leaving an organization ran by one of the best owners in all of sports, and someone who’s been there for me through my ups and downs. The hardest thing was hearing Mr. B wish me luck in the future, but we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the best thing for me to grow on and off the field.

I thank the Denver fans who embraced my emotion and play on the field and showing me love every time I step outside my door.

The hardest thing was trying to decipher Mr. B wishing me luck in the future, because he was lit up like a motherfucker. But we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the best thing for me and my pocketbook.

I thank the Denver fans who put some grip in my pocket; I'll think of you when I'm out getting plowed in my new town once The Deal Is Done.

Oh no doubt they'll be bad for the next few years, but they are building a team now. They have some foundation pieces to work with now and need to add the boys in the trench. They should be competitive in a few years IMO

You would think. But they're the Lions; they'll find a way to screw it up. Probably by trading Calvin Johnson for a bag of pucks, and only realizing after the trade is finalized that pucks have nothing to do with the sport of football, but plenty to do with the lone Detroit franchise that actually accomplishes things.

Most of the peeps at the Detroit board are pretty optimistic. They also know Gunther better pull a rabbit out of his ass and move the defense up at least a couple of notches, or he'll be gone at the end of the year.

That's true and anything can happen in the NFL, but Denver didn't do a lot to improve their D and IMO took a step backwards on Offense. Da Bears took a step forward on Offense and still SHOULD have a terrific D.

The Bears D hasn't been "terrific" since Lovie fired Ron Rivera.

Gawd, i hope Baltimore doesn't land Marshall. That team would be unreal.

Aside from that, ROFL @ the broncos. A ****ing hate that team. All of a sudden we have a real shot at the division, lol.

I really think most people are underestimating the Chargers this year.

They have one of the best young QBs in the NFL, and can still put points on the board, and their defense improved dramatically after Ted Cottrell was fired and replaced by Ron Rivera, and they'll get Merriman back.

Rivera's success with the Bears, and what he was able to accomplish mid season with the Chargers last year is the reason I was hoping the Chiefs would look at him seriously for the HC position.

I thought about Rivera too. After the Bears went to the Superbowl (IIRC), Rivera was the next hot coach. I mean the media suggested he was the top candidate for EVERY top job (they were probably flinging poop to see what stuck). But he was the Josh McDaniels of that year for hot coach prospect.

Then he went back to the Bears and then got fired, then couldn't even land a DC gig? That kind of turned me off some. Maybe there was something I didn't know.

Your point is valid. To be able to field a great defense with the Tampa 2 is impressive by itself. The only other guy to do it is Kiffin and about everybody tried. Then he moved to a 3-4 midseason and made it turn around significantly. That's damn impressive. And he could have potentially used the talent we had and not blow everything up.

I think Burger Bill is a waste of space more often than not, but he nails the Marshall situation pretty squarely on the head.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3-2350/Why-Denver-shouldn-t-trade-Marshall.html

"Marshall will have three choices: Report and be a good citizen and get paid very well next year (either by Denver or as a free agent); hold out and not get paid and affect his free-agent status; or report and be a disturbing presence, which would affect his earning power as a free agent. Really, Marshall has no choice. Denver knows it."

While the situation is driving me nuts, I hope they hold tight as it is different than the Cutler scenario. If Marshall wants to put his FA status in jeopardy, so be it.

Broncos Don’t Plan To Trade Marshall
Posted by Mike Florio on June 18, 2009, 12:42 p.m. EDT
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/06/18/broncos-dont-plan-to-trade-marshall/
We’ve continued to hear, from well-placed sources (as opposed to our usual “dude who replaces the toilet paper”), that the Denver Broncos will not be trading receiver Brandon Marshall.

It could be puffing. We understand that. But the point is that there apparently won’t be a “get what we can and move on” approach in this specific case.

If someone offered a first-round pick and a second-round pick, it would be very difficult for Denver to decline. Still, who in the hell would offer that much for a guy who in turn will want at least $9 million per year, and who remains one renegade McDonalds’ bag away from another suspension, or worse?

So the Broncos get it. They realize no one is sufficiently desperate to take that kind of a risk.

(Except maybe the Jets.)

Meanwhile, we’re detecting a bit of a sense that the organization would prefer that owner Pat Bowlen not get personally involved in these situations. Bowlen’s role in the Jay Cutler situation served only to grease the skids for a divorce, given that Bowlen was offended (as he should have been) by Cutler’s alleged refusal to return calls or texts from the guy who signs the checks.

And coupled with Bowlen’s admission that he is suffering from short-term memory loss, any one-on-one meeting with an unhappy player can result in the player claiming that Bowlen said things that he flat-out didn’t say.

So that’s the problems the Broncos now have. Marshall thinks Bowlen said a trade will be pursued. It doesn’t matter whether the team disagrees; the mere fact that Marshall believes it will make it even harder for the coaching staff and the front office to manage the situation.

Still, there’s a fundamental difference between having an unhappy receiver and an unhappy franchise quarterback. With Cutler, the Broncos had no choice but to move on. With Marshall, they can say things like “see you in camp.”

And that’s basically what they’re doing.

In other words, long after T.O. is gone, there will be pass-catchers who give us reasons to get our popcorn ready.

I wonder what is up with the short term memory loss... he's 65 years old and that's the age when my grandmother started having the onset of Alzheimers. I'm hoping there isn't something that serious going on with Bowlen. Whether you like him or not, if it's something like early stages of Alzheimers... that's sad.

The best I can hope for about Bowlen saying that, is he was trying not to comment on the whole Cutler thing anymore.

You need to realize that the Millen era is over. They might be the Detroit Lions, but they aren't the Millen Ligers, bred for their skills in magic and football ineptitude. Good personnel moves (Roy Williams trade with Dallas, Larry Foote, Jon Jansen, Julian Peterson, Ron Curry, etc.) and a nice '09 draft (at least on paper) shows that the Millen train wreck days are a thing of the past. They are making a lot of good moves, or so it seems. They will be substantially improved in '09.

Yep, the Lions fans are optimistic about the future. The know they've got a long way to go, but they understand the most important part of the overall equation is a done deal.
