Taking a look around I see a gigantic pile of shit slowly forming where my country used to be. Nothing partisan here, both sides are fucking up badly. Nothing in particular. Just a general feeling I get when I accidentally watch the news or overhear people talking about whatever messed up thing just happened. I'm pretty sure we're doomed and I just wanted to go on record as having predicted it. Carry on...

I believe in hegemonic stability theory, and accordingly I believe you are likely to be correct.

I agree. I don't know where all the current political events are taking us, but I do know it ain't gonna be pretty. <raises eyebrows> Are we living in The Last Days?

And people think the Mayan's were wrong about 2012??
At the rate we are going...by the time 2012 hits the America we knew, if not the world in general, will be a tale for the history books like Rome and every other past civilization.

Oh trust you me I truly don't believe America will endure forever but I do believe that the Mayans couldn't predict the future.

You guys sound like a bunch of old guys sitting on the porch and yelling at kids.
If you stopped watching political news or reading about politics you'd probably find that life ain't that bad. The political party's in charge change but my day to day life doesn't.

Then I'll address it. I prefer dealing with facts rather than speculation.

It's not speculation. It's logic. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
They're already up there discussing vat taxes, taxing health care benefits etc.
It all has to be paid for somehow. And our govt is broke.
Anything else is wishful thinking and unreal.

yes but sitting there overanalyzing and running every possible negative outcome through your head isn't worth the calories that you put into it.

I didn't think I was burning any calories. And I haven't overanalyzed "every possible" negative outcome. I already know what such policies do as a matter of historical fact.
They've been tried before. Besides, what I do is just your opinion. Isn't that what this forum is for?

The bill will come, those in power will change, new weird shit will happen, the opposite spectrum will poop out of their mouths everyday and everyone will continue livin'.

I'm off to work now. But I have LOTS of posts on it in you want to try to search. I get bored with old debates.
Yep, everything's going to hell in a handbasket.
Same as it ever was.

I would assume/hope that like numerous times before the economy will shape the presidency and the numbers in congress. While Obama seems to have a cult like following among his supporters, congress does not possess his magic dust. So I figure that during the next congressional election the conservatives will make gains and possibly return some semblance of power between liberals and conservatives. I miss gridlock.
Additionally by that time We "should" be able to shift the majority of the work to the Iraqis and with it a huge amount of expense. hopefully with Afghanistan following shortly thereafter. I admit that this feels different in that I think our Government is doing everything they can to exacerbate the problem but, we have been through tough times before followed by good times followed by tough times. It seems to be the nature of things.

So
When the kids start skate boarding on my sidewalk I'll do something about it. I'm not going to sit on the porch and loose my voice practicing my yell.
