Judge denies man convicted of drug charges release to see mother for the last time
FARGO - A federal judge has refused to release a man who said he wanted to get out of prison to see his mother for the last time.
Jared James Nikle has pleaded guilty in Fargo to conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver at least 500 grams of methamphetamine. He faces the possibility of life in prison when he's sentenced July 15.
Nikle asked to be released under supervision for a few days before sentencing to see his family and put his affairs in order. He said his mother will not be alive when he is released from prison and asked to see her for the last time.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson denied the request. He said Nikle has a history of chemical dependancy and said it's too big of a risk to let him out of jail.

Maybe he shouldn't have had 500 grams of meth.
Unless the man is this guy:

What's stopping them from sending an escort?

Honestly though, to release him "under supervsion for a few days"? The prison system has thousands of inmates and I'm sure a lot of them have issues where they'd like to see their family. I doubt they have the personnel to be driving guys around to do this stuff. I know they sometimes make allowances for this stuff sometimes. I know they even give some inmates a few days before they go into prison, even letting them self surrender sometimes. They obviously think this guy can't be trusted. If they say no, then that's the way it goes. Sucks for him.

A judge that makes rulings based on law. This is so cool. We should put this guy on the SCOTUS.

Judge worries that he might use some drugs. LOL.
Thats the big threat in the USA.
These judges are elected just like politicians. They know the dumb populace hates drug users.
Idiots.

Wow...you either didn't read the OP, you just don't have any clue, or you may be a big part of the "dumb populace" you speak of. He is a Federal Judge...Federal Judges are appointed by the White House; not elected. It is a lifetime gig, so they never run for election or reelection.

You're right. We should spend money to let criminals out of prison with supervision whenever they want.

The last thing I'd want in jail is to be awake for 2 weeks. O.K. Maybe one of the 2nd or 3rd to last things.
