but we have a 22 year old St Joe Mustangs player living with us this summer and Saturday after their game some of the players and their friends are coming over for a little postgame party and I need to find some tunes that will be acceptable to mix in with my stuff.

I'm not asking our player because he's already gotten a good dose of what I listen to and I want to be able to put in a cd that shows I've done my homework and I know we have a lot of 20 somethings here so I'm calling on you to help me with my homework.

TIA

Can you hookup your speaker system to the internet?

I had a party the other night and just pulled up Pandora.com on my computer (which is connected to my surround sound) and put in the name of an artist and I had an instant playlist for the whole night.

I haven't done that as of yet,I still like burning cd's from the computer and controlling every song that's played and putting them in the disc changer and hitting random. It's the old DJ still in me.I'm sure I could do the same with the internet but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

You should definitely look into it. It was well worth the 5 minutes it took to sign up.

As for Artists I would go with Dr. Dre if you are looking for hip-hop. Pretty much any of his songs are good for a party.

One of my faves:

Well, we were just another band out of boston
On the road to try to make ends meet
Playin all the bars, sleepin in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didnt have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play
People came alive.

Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Dancin in the streets of hyannis
We were getting pretty good at the game
People stood in line and didnt seem to mind
You know everybody knew our name
Livin on rock-n-roll music
Never worry bout the things we were missing
When we got up on the stage and got ready to play
Everybodyd listen.

Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Playin for a week in rhode island
A man came to the stage one night
He smoked a big cigar
Drove a cadillac car

And said, boys, I think this bands outta-sight
Sign a record company contract
You know Ive got great expectations
When I hear you on the car radio

Youre goin to be a sensation!

Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

If he likes RHCP I think he would enjoy the new Dredg album (The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion) which is actually doing pretty well at the moment. One of the songs just made Kobe Bryants top myspace list which is odd.

Some good tracks I'd recommend:

311 - You Wouldn't Believe, Beautiful Disaster
dredg - Gathering Pebbles, Mourning this Morning, Bug Eyes
Chevelle - Family System
Incubus - Privilege, Pardon Me,
Fair to Midland - Walls of Jericho
Karnivool - Cote, New Day, All I know
Cog - What If
Lost Prophets - Last Summer
Muse - Time is Running Out, New Born
Oceansize - You Wish
The Receiving End of Sirens - This Armistice

Thats all for now.

Yes, but they have an influence in many genre's.

-hip hip
-rock
-reggae
-funk
-alternative

They do a style that can appeal to a lot of people.

I haven't listened to the last album, or the new one (I hear they both suck and sound forced).... in that case, I'm talking about everything up to From Chaos.

whatever u do.... don't do that

If he likes RHCP I think he would enjoy the new Dredg album (The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion) which is actually doing pretty well at the moment. One of the songs just made Kobe Bryants top myspace list which is odd.

Some good tracks I'd recommend:

311 - You Wouldn't Believe, Beautiful Disaster
dredg - Gathering Pebbles, Mourning this Morning, Bug Eyes
Chevelle - Family System
Incubus - Privilege, Pardon Me,
Fair to Midland - Walls of Jericho
Karnivool - Cote, New Day, All I know
Cog - What If
Lost Prophets - Last Summer
Muse - Time is Running Out, New Born
Oceansize - You Wish
The Receiving End of Sirens - This Armistice

Thats all for now.

awwwww hell to the yeah

A couple they might like are...

Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas
Sugar - Flo Rida
Right Round - Flor Rida
Krazy - Pitbull feat. Lil Jon

Pretty mainstream stuff.

not unless there are a lot of girls

Beastie Boys - "Sabotage"
The Clash - "Rock The Casbah"

Jane’s Addiction - "Jane Says"

If you can think of some bands that might have popular songs, you can look on iTunes to see which songs people are buying and that should give you a good idea of what's popular. You can also preview the tunes that way so you know what they sound like.

Burn this list in a fire and never speak of it again. That list has all kinds of gay all over it. I'm pretty sure most 22 yr olds DONT listen to that crap. Most of that is EMO shit. The Marilyn Manson song, Green Day, Offspring and Rancid are the only ones on that list that actually kicks ass.

Death cab for cutie, Hollywood Undead, Taking back sunday, Kings of Leon etc, all for lame

i was going to say the same thing... i've been a fan for a long time....

their new cd is quite a bit more accessible than their older stuff, but if you like the new cd then you'll like their older stuff too... it may take a few listens for some of the older albums but they're just as good... i would definitely suggest checking some of those out

Man, you people have dog shit musical tastes. Dude asks to be helped out and you recommend Chevelle and crap like that.

Here you go Nzoner (to go with the required "Eliminator" album):

#1 party album of all time:

Cult: "Electric"
- 22 years old and still sounds fresh. Amazing album.

Some albums that would be absolutely mandatory if I was throwing a party:

Jane's Addiction: "XXX" (alt rock pioneers at their best)
Rolling Stones: "Some Girls" (Hot Rocks as a "Best of" would be acceptable)
Bob Marley: "Legend" (Reggae brilliance in a best of)
Daft Punk: "Homework" (Dance/club)
LCD Soundsystem: "LCD Soundsystem" (Fantastic party album - because Daft Punk is playing at my house)
Supreme Beings of Leisure: "Supreme Beings of Leisure" (Downtempo funk)
Dubtribe Sound System: "Bryant Street" (Great album - house/dub)
Best of Cookin': "Best of Cookin" (Funk Jazz)

If you want some good hip-hop and want to steer clear of the gangsta crap, here is some decent stuff:

Jurassic Five: "Power In Numbers"
- Best hip-hop album ever. Ever.

Gorillaz: "Gorillaz"
- Funky all the way through

Galactic: "From the Corner to the Block"
- A departure from standard Galactic stuff, but then, they never really stand pat anyway.

Michael Franti & Spearhead: "Everyone Deserves Music"
- Brilliant album by the modern equivalent of Bob Marley. The world needs more people like Franti.

iirc your a fan of kenny wayne sheppard, they should like some of that.

Black Crowes and Tom Petty should be something everybody enjoys in the age range you will have there.

Throw in some GNR, ACDC, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden, etc. Hit or miss with these.

Everclear, Sublime, Stone Temple Pilots.

can't help w/ the new age stuff.

Bob and tom cameltoe song is a must. That always makes people happy.

Can you hookup your speaker system to the internet?

I had a party the other night and just pulled up Pandora.com on my computer (which is connected to my surround sound) and put in the name of an artist and I had an instant playlist for the whole night.

+1

This is a great suggestion. You can "create a radio station" based on Artists i.e. Red Hot CPs, Genres, i.e. rap, or Songs, or all three. Your new "station" will play random current music from similar artists. It will go over HUGE!

You will appear so dope, or dead, or mad, or whack, or money, or whatever kids call cool these days.

Good luck!

p.s. it is absolutely free and runs in my house all the dang time!

Vedera is made up of three 27 year olds and a 21 year old. A lot of their audience are the 20 somethings although their music attracts all ages.

Their singer is a girl though and I know some folks don't like chick led bands. But they are incredible and their music is very family friendly.

Check it out. Link is below. Good luck.

The Fray is great. My son is good friends with those guys and is touring with them again in July and August. Also touring with the Wallflowers. (yeah, shameless plug)

What would be really helpful to Nzoner, IMO, would be if he could enter an artist like in Pandora and have a playlist generated that he could then check out in advance and tweak as he deems necessary. Pandora is great, but it will inevitably include a song here and there that you don't really care for. When listening on your own, it's simple enough to hit the skip ahead button, but that doesn't work for a smooth party.

I'm not gonna dog on Techno fans. I can't stand it but, hey, everyone has different tastes. Who am I to say what is good or bad? I just got a chuckle out of that comment.

I'm not a fan, but with lyrics like "I smell your sweat on my skin. Breakfast in Vegas on cocaine and giiiiiinnnnnn" I could sit through it.

Cox sugguested modest mouse - ocean breathes salty. It's been awhile but if iirc, that is not upbeat and fun at ALL.

OAR all the way.

Thanks for all the replies everyone,I used numerous suggestions added to some of mine and was able to compile about 7 1/2 hours of tunes so I'm thinking we should be covered quite well.
