Kicker set to sign with Chiefs (http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/1258333.html)

The Chiefs and seventh-round pick Ryan Succop agreed to contract terms Wednesday and are expected to finalize the three-year deal today, the player’s agent told The Star.

Joel Turner, who also represents Chiefs quarterback Tyler Thigpen, would not reveal details of the contract beyond its duration. Media organizations in South Carolina, where Succop played college football, reported that the agreed-upon deal was worth up to $1.2 million over the life of the contract.

“Barring an earthquake or something,” Turner said, “he will sign the contract in the morning.

Succop becomes the first of eight drafted Chiefs players to agree to terms. It is fitting considering that the kicker was the last player taken in the 256-selection draft

Succop played four years at the University of South Carolina and made 49 of 69 field goals.

He worked out with the Chiefs during offseason practices, which concluded Tuesday, and is expected to compete with second-year kicker Connor Barth for Kansas City’s kicking job.

Not to make this thread too serious, but I really hope this kid can be a good long-term kicker for us. It'd be nice to see us be able to kick FGs well and to have a kicker with such a cool name.

Even though Pioli's track record in the draft has been inconsistent of late, can't deny that he knows kickers. Viniatieri and Gostkowski? How did he find these two guys?

Three year deal means that Barth is out on his *** after TC IMO. IIRC someone said that Succop can get some decent distance on his Kickoffs, and is very accurate inside 50 yds. While Connor was decent with his FGs his Kickoffs weren't very good, hence why I give Succop the edge.

Well, i suppose that is a place to start...start at the bottom and work up to Jackson.

Still hurts that we picked the wrong kicker in '07.

PLEASE don't give this guy a #2 jersey. I'm just sayin...

Lets remember that Succop was only the 2nd kicker taken in the 2009 draft. Pretty good for being a Mr. Irrelevant. I look for Succop to earn the job over Barth. He has WAY more leg than Conner.

I think Connor is a pretty cool name, but I'm sure Connor knows that where kickers are concerned, there can only be one.

I continually find it amazing that guys who were just barely drafted, 5th round or later, aren't on the bus five minutes after the draft to work out terms. Those guys are lucky to have a job, and aren't assured they will even make the team.

I just figured out that Pioli is getting rid of Pederson's second round jinx by trading the pick away. We'll see if he deals the pick again next draft.

Well, he's got 2. Maybe he can trade them for Peyton Manning & Bob Sanders, then trade Cassel for Larry Fitzgerald.......
