Conservative Free Republic blog in free speech flap after racial slurs directed at Obama children

By Chris Parry, Vancouver Sun
July 11, 2009

"A typical street whore." "A bunch of ghetto thugs." "Ghetto street trash." "Wonder when she will get her first abortion."

These are a small selection of some of the racially-charged comments posted to the conservative 'Free Republic' blog Thursday, aimed at U.S. President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter Malia after she was photographed wearing a t-shirt with a peace sign on the front.

The thread was accompanied by a photo of Michelle Obama speaking to Malia that featured the caption, "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds."

Though this may sound like the sort of thing one might read on an Aryan Nation or white power website, they actually appeared on what is commonly considered one of the prime online locations for U.S. Conservative grassroots political discussion and organizing - and for a short time, the comments seemed to have the okay of site administrators.

Moderators of the blog left the comments - and commenters - in place until a complaint was lodged by a writer doing research on the conservative movement, almost a full day later.

"Could you imagine what world leaders must be thinking seeing this kind of street trash and that we paid for this kind of street ghetto trash to go over there?" wrote one commenter.

"They make me sick .... The whole family... mammy, pappy, the free loadin' mammy-in-law, the misguided chillin', and especially 'lil cuz... This is not the America I want representin' my peeps," wrote another.

Such was the onslaught of derision on the site that the person who originally complained about the slurs, a Kristin N., claims only one comment in the first hundred posted actually criticized the remarks as inappropriate.

A note on the front of the blog reads, "Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government," but one comment on the thread read, "This disgusting display makes me more and more eager for the revolution," while another read, "I never actually wnated [sic] to be a pistol before but..."

After attention from other blogs, the thread was suppressed and placed under review, but before long it was returned to the site intact, and attracted a new series of racial slurs when the original complaint email was posted publicly to the site, with the sender's email address intact.

"The writer has a point," wrote site owner Jim Thompson sarcastically. "We should steer clear of Obama's children. They can't help it if their old man is an American-hating Marxist pig."

"I agree Jim," wrote commenter, by the nickname NoobRep. "The kids didn't pick their commie pinko pansy of a father. Nor did they choose to be put into the spotlight. But Obama/Soetoro is fair game and so is his witch of a wife."

"Poor kids. I hope they're not 'punished with a baby'," wrote another. "Hopefully they won't deal cocaine like the Kenyan."

"DIRTBAGS! All of them. Our [White House] is now a joke to the rest of the world. We have no respect and this is not going to turn out well, mark my words. We will be hit, and much worse than last time. We are now seen as weak and vulnerable. Ghetto and Chicago thugs have taken over."

Only after significant negative attention from a host of left wing political blogs did the maintainers of the Free Republic site place the thread under review for a second time, before finally pulling it.

In the wake of the controversy, some Free Republic posters complained about the vitriol.

One poster by the name of "fullchroma" wrote, "To Jim Thompson: The recent uptick here in racist vitriol, aimed at Barrack, Michelle and their children has made me wonder if I belong. My objection to Obama has nothing to do with skin tone. Is the ugly stereotype of Conservative racism true?"

Another, going by the name of TChris, wrote, "Free Republic is a political discussion forum. It SHOULD be beneath us as a group to stoop to such juvenile tactics as I see increasing here lately. Do we REALLY have to insult Mrs. Obama's appearance like a clique of nasty 14-year-old girls?"

But such opinions were not shared by all. Said Roses of Sharon, "Poor libs .... Too late, the battle has been joined."

It's more of a message board than a blog. I'm sure it happens all the time there. It's a big board, with lots of people. Pretty easy to find some assholes willing to say anything when you have that many people posting.

I thought it was interesting that it made it to a major paper.

Vancouver Sun? Oh, ok. I can't remember the last time I picked that very major publication up at the airport.

Nonethless, that talk is reprehensible and disgusting. It is no different though than posting that Sarah Palin's infant son was really her daughter's illegimate child, if you know what I am talking about here. Children are off limits IMO. No matter what what. Politicians kids or not.

I just think you are perpetuating an unfair stereotype with the way you titled your thread. I mean, you have no way of proving that an actual conservative posted that. You are just assuming so.

Shocking. Really.

Yeah. Shocking...alright.

Just like the liberal discussion board/blog/"major" newspapers....who engage or have engaged in "character assassination"/demagoguery/baseless-insults/juvenile name-calling intended to demean and impugn conservatives like, oh, Sarah Palin/Dick Cheney/Karl Rove.

Depends on whose ox is being gored....whether or not we are "offended" though, it would appear. Especially to ideological hypocrites like jIZ.

Hmmmmmmmmmm:hmmm: let's see now...PeeBO's poll numbers are going down, the stimulus hasn't worked only to suggest a stimulus 2, Kim Jong Mentally Ill and Hocker Hand Job is calling PeeBO's bluff, Europe pretty much tells PeeBO at the G7 summit to "blow us" about a worldwide "global tax" on carbon emissions(ala so-called global warming).

This to me is pure Alinsky Rules being applied to slander conservatives as Obama is quickly being exposed as a "All talk no do potus".:thumb:

Watch for these slanderous acts to increase in the future as Obama continues to slide in the sh*****!!:thumb: The Dems can't afford to let the dumbed down public think that Repubs(ala conservatives) are a better option in 2010 and 2012. But IMO the Dems and PeeBO have overreached so much that they have literally screwed themselves and they know it. This is why they want all this socialism passed(Cap and Tax and Single Payor Healthcare) before Nov of 2010 while they still have the majority in both Houses.:shake::shake::shake::shake::shake::shake:

A recently deleted article by Huffington Post author Erik Sean Nelson:

In Sarah Palin’s resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the “world needs more Trigs, not fewer.”

That’s a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it’s kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons

Her first act as President: To introduce a Pre-K lunch buffet that includes lead paint chips. Sort of a Large HEAD-START Program.

She will then encourage women to hold off on pregnancies until their 40’s just to mix up some chromosomes. She now is in favor of abortion only in case of diploid birth.

Her policies will increase jobs because Wal-Mart is building new stores each day and someone has to be the greeter. This will lead to smaller government because fewer Americans will have the cognitive ability to hold a government job

Look, she says she’s resigning as governor because people are making attacks on her and Trig. If she ever did become president, all Osama bin Laden would have to do to defeat the United States is Photoshop a picture of Trig and she’d surrender the country that night. As she said, “That’s not politics as usual.” It isn’t. Politicians don’t usually quit for so stupid of reasons.

Wouldn't the remarks in question demonstrate that they are the ones hung up on the issue?

Quite the opposite!! Study your own party and their tactics and how they have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE need to keep and play the race card at every turn "ESPECIALLY" when they have the majority liberal press in their 'back pocket' "never" holding them accountable for any accusations. Jackson,Sharpton, ACLU, and the NAACP have made millions upon millions playing the race card. Racisism is kept alive and flamed by the Left !!!

I have posted this before and feel this needs posted again:

Progressive Liberals finally have found "their" charasmatic leader who happens to be 'black' who plays on America's white guilt subconsciously and playing to a significant portion of white America who are not well educated as to their own liberties and freedoms which are being 'snuffed out' right out from under them because they were not educated to think critically(Oprah crowd). The Oprah crowd say's to themselves, "in no way would Obama violate my freedoms and rights" he looks and sounds soooooooooo good! All the while never knowing how to sift through all the "platitudes"of speeches and seeing it for what it is. Think again!! With all these factors in play while running against a weak opponent this made it easy to get elected.

Now with both majorities in the both houses, Obama is barely contested on any bill he legislates, skating through his radical social agenda at breaking speeds we have never seen the likes of all because we dare "NOT" criticize our "First" black president and appear like racists. Obama and the Progressive Liberals know this and are daring anyone to oppose them only to brand them as 'racists' by the Obama's Marxist Press.

We will pay dearly for our silence if we do not stand up soon and the Tea Parties were a first step and a warning to Washington. This must continue.
This plays right into Obama's actual statement and vision of "returning America's wealth to it's rightful owners"(ala- white and minority deadbeats who don't even pay taxes) all for the sake of total government power(Obama control). Obama has no intention of fixing this economy rather he wants to drive it into the ground so as to create more crisis making more Americans more vulnerable to giving up their freedoms in hopes the government(ala-Obama) will save them.

The Majority Liberal Media(ala- now the communist press as I see it) will cover for him at all costs because they not only are indoctrinated progressive liberals themselves committed to socialism but they know they got this guy elected('hiding the real Obama') They refused to get Obama to define his real Hope and Change for our country) thus they must cover their own asses. Therefore, Obama will never be challenged and anybody who does challenge will be "slapped down and intimidated" by the Obama Marxist press". And Obama didn't know about Jeremiah's radical views while attending for over 20yrs? Yeeeeeeeeeeeah riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

Like I said, all this goes hand in hand. Fits like a glove! By the way, this author of this article is black and pay particular attention to the last half of this article as you are seeing it implemented right before your very eyes. Understand this article was written way back in April of 2008. I wonder how many Obama voters are starting to get the feeling they got "hoodwinked"???

It gets worse, though. Chris Parry, it appears, has advocated on his Daily Kos blog any number of egregious offenses, among them: posting hate speech on sites like Free Republic and blaming it on conservatives. Parry posted under the name "hollywoodoz" on Daily Kos, where his signature was "Fool me once, I'll punch you in the f*cking head." Parry outed himself as hollywoodoz here, where he discloses the company he helped start. In essence: Parry, the journalist, found his story right where he'd been circling it for a very long time, and reported it as news. Sigh.

Interesting.

So the author is a regular at DailyKos. That's relevant because it was largely interesting to me because an actual media outlet (not some random blogger or a guy at DailyKos) was covering it. If this is all the further it goes, is a Kos poster writing a column as part of his day job, I don't consider this guy a legit reporter.

All of that said, the extrapolation made from that point seems a little ridiculous.

First claim...
He has advocated on Daily Kos for liberals to post hate speech on conservative blogs and blame it on conservatives.

Second claim...
But the real story here is that this same reporter and Daily Kos contributer has advocated on his Daily Kos blog any number of egregious offenses, among them: posting hate speech on sites like Free Republic and blaming it on conservatives. ...

Third claim...
Chris Parry has advocated attacking blacks and blaming Republicans.
Here is one of his comments on Daily Kos:

The only evidence is this...

Sorry to say there is no similarly good mnemonic for remembering how to spell "mnemonic".

I can't figure out how one takes the BUSH, CHENEY, BROWN mneumonic and turns it into "he has advocated ... for liberals to post hate speech on conservative blogs and blame it on conservatives".

Unless I'm missing something huge, that aspect of the story is bogus.

I'm pretty sure that you'll find racists everywhere, jAZ. Maybe even in your own family.

They voted for John McCain.
