From the link in the OP:

UPDATE 2: A commenter who claims to be "The Son" confirms that she never practiced medicine.

This is what they're referring to:

Ooh, swing and a miss, buddies! I'm the accused's son, and I can verify that she went to college and medical school and performed an internship in the Boston area. "Probably never even did a residency," says an above comment. Again: swing and a miss.

I will not argue that she has not practiced medicine for a long time - she hasn't. And you all are right, I bet you don't remember ANYTHING from 20 years ago - job training? Nope! friendships? Nope! etc. So I suppose it makes sense to assume that because she has been raising me and my 3 siblings for years that she no longer knows anything about the medical profession.

"And another loony home-schooler at that!" Oh that makes me feel really good. Thanks, mate! Let's just ignore the fact that her "loony" home-schooling has gotten one son into Oberlin college and then into UMass medical school. Let's ignore that her other son is a senior at Brown University (heard of it?). And her daughter is a dental assistant. Oh yea, and me? Not to toot my own horn, but I don't doubt that I have a higher IQ than you or your children. I shouldn't have said that. I apologize.

See, what I just said is what you should all be saying. You insulted and, as far as I can tell, stalked a private individual. With no proof, you accused her of a multitude of things. To be honest, I am overwhelmed with the enormity of the dullness which must have gone into these accusations.

One last thing: "I just called the AP in Massachusetts, told them there were questions being raised about Sheila Leavitt, and they're going to look into it.

I suggested they try Google." OF COURSE! Why didn't they think of it? The all-knowing, infallible internet. You're a genius.

Oh, and my mother (the lying loony in question) and my father met in medical school. So, my existence is pretty much proof she attended.
____________

God, I hope she doesn't see this; that would be embarrassing! I'm going to regret posting this because it is undoubtedly not well thought out and incoherent. Ah, well, it didn't stop the rest of you, eh?!

GatewayPundit actually cites that. ROFLI don't doubt any of what he said and don't you dare tell any of us that the wacko lefties (like the wacko righties) aren't abusing townhall questioners following their meetings. It is happening. However, without doubting any of this, is or was she ever a licensed Doctor? Did she just go to Med school, start interning, boff his daddy and then become wacko leftie? Or was she ever really licensed to practice medicine. I think that is the anti-claim, that she wasn't a Doctor. If she was then great, if not, she shouldn't have claimed to be one.

Also, in the article with the clowncar photo, there is this:

Well, you should've seen Sheila Leavitt's in-your-face Toyota yesterday as this 54-year-old trained physician and mother of four in sundress and flip-flops did her ``one-person protest parade'' through the Back Bay and South End.

I'm pretty sure it's a yes. I believe that residents ARE doctors and DO practice medicine. But I'm not 100% sure.

In the doctor world, what is a resident?
My doctor is a resident, but by his name it still says MD. Whats the difference between a non-resident and resident? Should I expect him to not be my long term dr. since hes still in school? Just out of curiosity, any other details?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
A resident is not still in school, although they are still completing their training. A resident has received their MD (or DO) and is doing 3 to 7 years of supervised work that they must complete before qualifying to sit for their boards (advanced qualification). That's why his ID says MD on it (instead of Medical Student, like mine!).

On some issues, like whether to use ibuprofen or tylenol for a particular pain, her distant past medical background is relevant and it would make sense for her to describe herself as a doctor when speaking on that subject. But wrt the issue of current practice and how reforms might benefit or hurt that practice, her medical training is of almost no value and it's completely deceptive for her to give the impression that she has more insight into the issue than any other interested bystander, whether she ever had a license or not. IMO.

Others at Tuesday's meeting were more supportive of reform.

Sheila Leavitt of Newton, who said she gave up practicing as a physician in 1983, said she hoped for changes that would support primary care physicians who aren't paid as much as specialists. She said some of the rowdy critics at Tuesday's meeting appeared to be using the same "talking points" as those who showed up at similar meetings around the country.

The most relevant deception was the original claim, by either Leavitt or the early accounts in news reports that she was a doctor. That she's now admitting that she hasn't practiced in decades, after being outed by the blogosphere, doesn't change that.

THAT was the original story. The one I quoted from the KC Star. She never changed her story.

Look at the time on it. It's also on NYTimes, LATimes and dozens of other papers that way. The AP's own link shows it this way.

The version quoted by BucksRight that started the slanderfest was posted later, on YahooNews. Also on Fox and some others. Who knows why they edited it differently. It really wasn't Dr. Leavitt's doing, though, now was it?

It WAS Malkin's choice and the bloggers' choice to run spew without checking it.

Fair enough. You can't really call Bucks Right or any of the other bloggers who dug into this liars though since they're basing their analysis on Yahoo's version of the AP story. As it turns out, Leavitt appears to have been honest about her status though. Whoever edited the relevant information out of the AP article is the one to blame although it might have been an innocent blunder rather than intentional deception.
