He's definitely got the stuff to produce in the NBA. I'd pull up his stats from last season but I can't seem to find them.

I will say that he stepped up in the Davidson game when most others didn't.

Man that was a hell of a run to the championship, couldn't have ended any better. A lot of suspense leading to the final shot in the Davidson game......beating Roy's ass in the Final 4, then Mario's shot and Derrick Rose's chokejob at the FT line. Couldn't have asked for a better ending to a season except maybe running the table like the 76 Hoosiers.

Notre Dame looks stout on paper, they have a great set of skill position players, but until they prove it on the field, they ain't shit. They're certainly not Top 25 material. The way they have played in recent years I might put them in the top 40-50, but that's it.

Of course, running the table would have been a historical feat and there's nothing better... but one of the great things about that season was how they beat Davidson and Memphis after losing to OSU and Texas. In the two losses, they just didn't know how to finish.... I remember the last several minutes of the Texas game were frustrating, and while just didn't show up against OSU, they still had a chance to win at the end and completely screwed it up. So, it was really cool that they finished off Davidson and Memphis, one with defense and one with offense.... and of course 40-12 was nice, too. The tourney was setup perfectly to show how they could play with anyone in the country.

Lou Holtz said they would be in the championship game, and Matt Forde (I think it was him, someone on ESPNnews) said they would have 10 wins and probably be in a BCS bowl.

Mostly due to weak schedule.

Holtz is an unbiased observer!

In 2005 and 2006, Notre Dame got BCS bids and they got clobbered by Ohio St. and LSU both times. They haven't been a legitimate football power since 1993.

Week one, they aren't even assured of beating Nevada at home. In fact, I am picking the Wolfpack to upset them.

If he was a homer of any other team, I don't think there's any way ESPN would let him go on and on like he does... but, they always want to please the Notre Dame fan base by talking about the Irish for at least 10 minutes of every 30 minute show... just one more reason to not watch.

You know, KU could go on a run to start of the season. If Oklahoma is not as good as expected, KU could challenge them in that game. KU gets Nebraska and OU at home. 10-0 going into the Texas game would be nice :D

Florida Gators' special teams deserves special attention

By JOSEPH GOODMAN

<!-- begin /production/story/credit_line_format.comp --> jgoodman@MiamiHerald.com

<!-- end /production/story/credit_line_format.comp --> GAINESVILLE -- The top-ranked Florida Gators are so loaded with talent that coach Urban Meyer calls his punt-block team a ``freak show.''
Freshman linebacker Jelani Jenkins is one of the super freaks. The Maryland native was the nation's top-rated recruit at outside linebacker this year. He is intelligent. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He is a black belt in karate.

Naturally, everyone wanted him.

Naturally, he is not going to play a meaningful down of defense this season for UF.

Instead, he will be relegated to special-teams duty in 2009. At the University of Florida, four- and five-star recruits will play special teams this season and consider themselves lucky. A collection of elite special-teams units is just one of many reasons why the national-champion Gators will begin the season ranked No. 1 and the favorite to win their third national title in four years.

``On this team, if you don't play special teams, you won't be on the field,'' said junior free safety Major Wright, who will be a third-year starter this season but still also serves as an up-field blocker on UF's kickoff and punt teams.

HIGH REGARD

Meyer, UF's special-teams coordinator, prides himself not only on fielding some of the best special-teams units in the nation but also instilling a locker-room culture that demands respect for special-teams contributors. Entrenched starters beg to be on the punt-block and field-goal-block teams. Not coincidentally, UF led the Southeastern Conference in 2008 with nine blocked kicks.
