Are the palm trees small in that view? The last time I checked, they were like eight foot.

Right now, they're all at least 35 foot tall. It makes the house less ugly from the exterior.

yeah, it's an old pic... the palms are teeny... 8-10 feet or so.

What about that big empty dirt/driveway space next to you.. is that still the same? Seems like a waste of potentially good space.

Oh boy, you just crossed the line, Mr.! :D

Fortunately, the lot next door is owned by the people that own that big block cement house on the other side. They have vowed never to build on that lot (thankfully!).

Today, I found out that a builder is putting up three homes in excess of 10,000 square foot directly behind me! The first home is 12,000 square foot with an Olympic sized infinity pool that overlooks the whole city with ocean views. The other two are 10,000 square footers with pools in the back. They basically have to excavate the mountain behind me which means 2 more years of dump trucks, drilling, caissons and concrete work. All going up and down my 20 foot wide street (that's already in decay).

But to top that off, I found out that the same builder is building nine 5,500 square foot homes directly across from me. They'll all have swimming pools that face my home. He has to first build a 33 foot wide street, using 36 caissons plus a turnaround at the end for firetrucks. That'll take 3-4 years to complete.

So, it's going to be a dirty, loud, gigantic mess for 4 more years and who the hell knows who will buy these houses.

All I can say is that Chiefsplanet better be prepared for more Dane McCloud "Guess who's my neighbor" threads for years to come!

DAMN! The ones behind you must be BEHIND behind you... that looks like a killer location assuming they don't end up with 1/2 ton of mud piled into their backyard pools every spring :D

BUT.. I challenge any of those to beat my dream house here in downtown austin... someone took a 4 story historic building on 8th and congress (middle of downtown) and turned it into a home complete with infinity-edge pool and YARD on roof. (and just for Clayton... it even has a Subway next door to it)

edit: just to be clear.. DREAM home... not where I live...

Wow, that sucks about Drew. I've run into her on more than a few occasions and while she's not my "type", she could probably quickly become that way because she is just a flat-out cool chick.

Bummer.

Oh, there are absolutely amazingly killer lofts in downtown Los Angeles that easily rival that model. But please don't take that as an insult or a slight, because Austin is a great city, probably the "coolest" city in the midwest.

No slight taken ... I just like it because with all the new condos going in downtown... this one is tucked away inside it's own historic storefront.

And yeah, the friends who have met her said Drew is super nice. I can say the same about Sandra Bullock (she had the wrap party for Miss Congeniality at the same spot my ex-g/f threw me a birthday party... so she came over to find me and ask if I was enjoying the party she threw for me... sweet girl) ... the BIG difference is that Drew is good looking even by Austin standards... Sandra isn't UNattractive... but certainly doesn't stand out at all in this town.

Yeah, Ms. Bullock has a square jaw, which isn't exactly endearing to many males. But, I'm a big fan, especially of the movie with Hugh Grant.

All I can say about lofts is that downtown areas, IMO, fucking rule. If I could only go back 20 years...

I swear, 70% would have been against that pick, if only for the reason that Broderick Thomas from Nebraska was equally rated by scouts.
