Faced with a souring public mood on health care reform, Democrats and their supporters are launching a national grassroots push Wednesday to show lawmakers that the majority of Americans still support overhauling the system.

Democrats organizing = grassroots.

True grassroots = astroturf.

As I've said from the beginning this is just more of the same from the Dems. They need to marginalize the anti-Obamacare crowd and try to muster their own forces to make the political case that voting for Obamacare won't automatically get you defeated at the polls. They're fooling themselves, but I guess it's all they have left...

I don't think anybody is against reform, just make it right. That's all, make it affordable.

That takes regulation, it scare people, scares the pharmaceutical companies and the insurance companies.

I was at a farmer's market sort of thing last weekend and there were some pro-socialism demonstrators out there trying to get people to sign a petition supporting the government takeover. Nevermind, of course, that both senators and all but one congressman from this state are already in the tank.

It all bore a very phony aire about it, with their pre-printed signs in the Obama font bearing the Obama symbol, as if they'd been sent directly by the Ministry of Information, the office of his (ever-continuing) campaign. I'm sure they were the usual set of on-call party operatives.

Sounds like astroturfing to me

Didn't Pelosi or Boxer slam the protestors for being "organized"?

Pretty sure they did.
Quite the double standard we have going on.

Pelosi Calls Health Care Protests ‘Astroturf’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office sent out a fact sheet to reporters Tuesday afternoon, calling recent demonstrations at congressional town hall events “Astroturf,” the Washington euphemism for a corporate public relations campaign disguised to look like a grass roots citizen movement.

Pelosi said that while Democrats are putting forth proposals to reform health care, “those not interested in health insurance reform are disrupting public meetings and not allowing concerned constituents to ask questions and express their views. Many of these opponents who are shutting down civil discussion are organized by out-of-district, extremist political groups, and industry-supported lobbying firms.”

The statement, citing numerous media reports, linked disruptions of congressional meetings to the insurance industry and conservative organizations like FreedomWorks, which is run by former House Republican leader Dick Armey.

As opposed to Astroturf opponents, “Democratic members of Congress will continue to talk about the benefits” of health insurance reform, Pelosi said. “Successful, informative constituent meetings are being headlined by Democrats across the country.”

Democratic House members are traveling through their districts, frequently encountering angry crowds opposing health care reform, energy reform and the growing federal deficit. This week, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) faced a group of protesting constituents, which he called a “mob scene.”

Pelosi’s words are part of a broader Democratic effort to portray the demonstrations as not reflecting real voter sentiment. The DNC and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent out similar communications on Tuesday.

Nice to see Pelosi can send out a fact sheet. How about that other party?

Didn't Pelosi or Boxer slam the protestors for being "organized"?

I've had some fun conversations with pro-Obama supporters who have tried to tow the party line. After about thirty seconds of asking reasonable questions and pointing out recent Obama statements they're typically left with a blank expression and default to "well, we have to do something."

It's like they have a cold and go to the doctor and he orders up a knee surgery. It won't fix the runny nose and it will cost a fortune but -- we have to do something.
