The imagery in this trailer is quite shocking really. It's amazing to me that we've let our nation get to the point where a video like this could be made.

Sure. Of course, I'm predicting the movie's argument to be laughably inept. The trailer already seems flat-out disingenuous. Like that Obama sound byte about the need for "a civilian counterpart to our military effort." First of all, I'm pretty sure Obama was talking about Iraqi civilians assisting with U.S. military efforts in that country. Second of all, that sound byte was played alongside footage from a commercial for the volunteerism organization City Year, which has been operating for like 20 years. If the whole movie is as honest as that trailer is then it isn't worth watching, not even to laugh at.

I was incorrect; Obama wasn't talking about Iraq with that quip. The full quote is here: http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:g8qJCCgXAGYJ:www.clipsandcomment.com/2008/09/11/transcript-servicenation-presidential-forum-at-columbia-university/+generals+say+%22a+civilian+counterpart+%22+to+our+military+effort%3B+obama&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a

Again, I think that inspiring young people to serve is something that the president is uniquely positioned to do. Now, it doesn’t always have to be service in uniform. One of the things, that if you talk to our generals, they are desperate for, is a civilian counterpart to our military forces.

Our military is the best in the world, but they are asked to do so many different things because our civilian operations, our State Department, USAID have been underfunded, have atrophied.

And for us to say, serve in the military, but if that’s not where you want to serve, learn a foreign language and go into the foreign service. And by the way, we will deploy you in some difficult areas, but that’s part of what it means to be an American and to serve and to sacrifice.

We need agricultural specialists in places like Afghanistan. We need civil engineers that can do some of the work that currently our military officers are doing.

And so, I think a president who is consistently asking for young people to reach for something higher, something bigger than themselves, I think, will get enormous response.
Which clearly shows that Obama isn't in any way referring to City Year, nor is it referring to a paramilitary group of any kind policing or enforcing any kind of "agenda."

Yeah, it's all out of context. Just like the federal government wanting emergency powers to seize the Internet should the need for it arise is out of context, right?

We just keep giving up more and more every year, and invigilant fools keep laughing at the people trying to ward off a nightmarish world empire from totally claiming every facet of our lives. Well I say laugh away. Maybe laughing it all off is the secret to keeping an ever expanding government at bay. But for some reason, I have my doubts.

What part of "civilian counterpart to our military forces" did you NOT understand?

Is it the word "counterpart?"

Well, here's the definition:
coun·ter·part (kountr-pärt)
n.
1.
a. One that closely resembles another.
b. One that has the same functions and characteristics as another; a corresponding person or thing: Their foreign minister is the counterpart of our secretary of state.
2. A copy or duplicate of a legal paper.
3.a. One of two parts that fit and complete each other.
b. One that serves as a complement.

Now re-read the quote again, ( or replay it), with full comprehension. :)

Good heavens. There are think tanks and special interest groups all over Washington DC. Sometimes they impact policy and sometimes they don't. The chances that they'll impact policy are greatly improved when they're made up of a bipartisan group of heavy hitters like PNAC was.

The last two Megadeth albums have been pretty ok. 6.5 out out 10 type albums; really fun if you like solos but the song composition lacks depth or urgency.

Rust in Peace, their magnum opus, is one of the best metal albums of all time. Its better than anything Metallica put out as far as melodic thrash goes.

Though the depth of my metal knowledge and listening experience most likely out-ranks yours thousandsfold, I'm not a Metallica hater by any means; I think Metallica is a better overall band than Megadeth. I really love the first 4 Metallica albums. Rust in Peace is better than any of those 4.

I really don't listen anymore but i still remember buying master of puppets on tape when i was 16 and wearing the tape out within 5 months until i could buy the cd. I also agree on the 1st 4 metallica albums i don't like anything after And justice for all.
